Films and the cinema provide a lot of great inspiration for LEGO builders all over the world. You’ll find LEGO models inspired by everything from Mad Max to Toy Story here.

Miniland Alice in Wonderland characters by Tommy Williamson

One of the cool things about the LEGO hobby is that it brings together people from various backgrounds and professions.

Tommy Williamson (GeekyTom) works for CafeFX as an effects artist, and supervised the 3D-ification of Alice in Wonderland. Naturally, Tommy built some of the characters from the movie to commemorate its release:

Johnny Depp makes a perfect Mad Hatter, and Tommy’s miniland version is perfect as well.

Some kind of Hot Tub Time Machine!

For once, we’re going to pass up a StarCraft II LEGO creation by Matt De Lanoy (Pepa Quin) in favor of what’s sure to be the next Snakes on a Plane. What could that be? Why, Hot Tub Time Machine of course!

All those ... moments will be lost in time

There’s a moment in Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner that sends chills up and down my spine every time I watch it. Rutger Hauer and Harrison Ford stand on a rooftop in the rain as Hauer’s character breathes his last.

Zach Macias has recreated that scene in LEGO:

Mechagodzilla stands ready to take on the King of the Monsters

This Mechagodzilla by Yasutaka (AIWSMOYA) takes me back to the monster movies and TV shows my brother and I grew up watching early on weekend mornings back in Japan.

LEGO Mechagodzilla

The sculpting on Mechagodzilla’s head is particularly great, with nice use of cheese slopes and small wing plates.

This is also exactly the sort of LEGO creation we’d love to see tromping through a LEGO Tokyo for the Big in Japan display we’re planning for BrickCon 2010.

It’s a Smurfy Day

At least that’s what this build by Elex says to me.

LEGO Technic RDA Samson battle helicopter from Avatar

This Technic version of the Aerospatiale SA-2 Samson VTOL aircraft from James Cameron’s Avatar by Barry (barman) features so many working components it’s hard to list my favorites.

LEGO Technic RDA Gunship

With counter-rotating props, doors that open and close, and a central joystick that controls the angle of the props, you have to see the video to believe it:

First LEGO movie: The Adventures of Clutch Powers released [News]

The first full-length LEGO Movie, The Adventures of Clutch Powers, has just been released. You can buy it from Walmart.com (and Amazon.com), and I assume other stores will carry it as well.

Here’s the trailer:

You are the resistance.

After really enjoying Terminator Salvation last year, I thought we’d see quite a few LEGO creations inspired by the movie, but the only LEGO I’d run across was my own Terminator Salvation minifigs.

Thankfully, tbone_tbl seems to have appreciated what I think is the best movie in the series, and has created a microscale vignette of the first scene in the movie.

The micro A-10 Warthog in the foreground is certainly nice, but that Harvester mech in the background is excellent.

Home Alone house + X-Files bonus

This microscale version of the McCallister house from Home Alone by Rob H. (rh1985moc) evokes cold Northeast winters and warm nights by the fireplace.

Like several of his previous creations, Rob has added LEDs to the windows so it lights up in the dark.

Of course, this also a good excuse to highlight Rob’s older microscale J. Edgar Hoover FBI headquarters building.

It’s a really nice building, but the same photoset yields Special Agent Fox Mulder at his desk in the basement office relegated to the X-Files.

Warning: foreign contaminant

Matthew Raehl’s (Puddleglum) Microbe Obliterator will obsessively clean your ship and any Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class that it encounters.

This creation uses curved slopes to achieve the shape of M-O’s head and body, which definitely results in an improvement.

Since he’s dead, he can take off his head

Proximity to Valentine’s Day seems appropriate enough for the Halloween/Christmas hybrid that is The Nightmare Before Christmas.

This vignette by Stefan (brainbikerider) featuring Jack Skellington singing beneath the full moon won a recent vignette contest among Austrian LEGO fans.

Toy Story 3 trailer confirms LEGO in movie, plus more LEGO Pixar goodness

In our interview with Angus MacLane back in 2008, we asked him why none of the toys in the previous two installments of the Toy Story series were LEGO. Read the interview to find out, but that gap has been corrected in Toy Story 3.

They’re a bit hard to spot in this screen cap by Bill Toenjes, so check out the photo on Flickr for notes and the full-size version. Watch the complete trailer for more LEGO, as well as a notable appearance by Totoro.

In related LEGO + Pixar news, this year’s giveaway Toy Fair premiums from LEGO included a CubeDude Buzz Lightyear signed and numbered by Angus himself (via FBTB’s complete Toy Fair 2010 coverage):

Now I’m mad that LEGO didn’t send The Brothers Brick an invite to this year’s Toy Fair. Hey LEGO, what gives? I demand my CubeDude Buzz Lightyear!

Finally, Toy Story director (Toy Story 3 executive producer) John Lasseter received the LEGO treatment at Toy Fair with this great bust built by Erik Varszegi (via Gizmodo):
