Films and the cinema provide a lot of great inspiration for LEGO builders all over the world. You’ll find LEGO models inspired by everything from Mad Max to Toy Story here.

Minifig-scale Serenity is the coolest ship in the ‘verse

Adrian Drake (brickfrenzy just completed his 70,000 piece Serenity (from the wonderful but short-lived series Firefly) after more than 475 hours of work over nearly two years.

The ship weights 135 pounds and has a complete interior, from bow to stern. Many interior spaces also have lighting, and the shuttles detach.

00 Serenity

We’ve featured some great Serenity models here on The Brothers Brick over the years, but none at minifig scale. See 75 photos of this awesome model on Flickr.

(My challenge to build a minifig-scale Prometheus still stands…)

The Dark Knight rises from bricks

Michael McCooey recently made an action figure of the the Dark Knight in anticipation of the movie. The figure is very posable, and there are tons of pictures on Flickr and MOCpages to prove it.

Lego Scrat from Ice Age

The newest Ice Age movie came out this weekend, and Bruce Lowell has the perfect Lego creation for the occasion.

To Boldly Build what No Man has Built Before!

Well, this may not be the first time Star Trek devices have been built out of LEGO bricks, but it definitely is one of the most impressive. Tommy Williamson beautifully and masterfully recreates the Phaser Type-II, Communicator, and Tricorder from Star Trek: The Original Series.

LEGO Star Trek TOS Collection

Like a good citizen of the 23rd century, he spruces up the models with Power Functions from Lego!

Onosendai does Prometheus

In what is shaping up to be a meme (how many ways can the space ship Prometheus be expressed in LEGO) , Andrew Lee graces us with a really well done interpretation of the titular movie ship. Can’t wait to see who else takes on the challenge.

Dregant’s USCSS Prometheus costs much less than a trillion dollars

It’s great to be corrected when the correction reveals that I’ve missed something awesome. I said in my last post about Si-MOCs’ microsocale Prometheus) that I hadn’t found another LEGO version of this great ship, but Niki Dregant has in fact built a much-larger version:

LEGO Prometheus

At this scale, a whole lot more detail is possible, including lots of mechanical detail on the engines. Like the micro version, Niki’s larger version can land on its rotating nacelles. Since this is still somewhere around mini/midi-scale, my challenge to build a full minifig-scale version still stands.

Thanks for the tip, Fredo!

Microscale Prometheus lands on tiny LV-223

USCSS Prometheus schematicI saw Ridley Scott’s Prometheus a couple weeks ago, and I’m still a bit ambivalent about it. I appreciate the cosmic scope that makes the Alien trilogy (yes, I said trilogy) seem decidedly minuscule, but it left me more frustrated than anything else. I don’t necessarily need all my questions answered by a movie, but I hate being jerked around.

Nevertheless, I fell in love with the ship herself the moment I saw USCSS Prometheus in the first trailer. With influences evident from Ron Cobb and Chris Foss, it harkens back to the great sci-fi ship designs of the 70’s and 80’s while taking us firmly into the future.

Catching up on LEGO, I’ve been surprised that nobody’s built a LEGO Prometheus yet, so I was pleased to find this great microscale version that Simon Liu (Si-MOCs) built and posted after he got back from BrickWorld:

Micro Prometheus - Landing on LV-223

Simon’s Prometheus is complete with rotating engines, and I like the LV-223 landscape in which he places the hovering ship.

Perhaps one of you out there is planning on building a minifig-scale Prometheus for BrickCon 2012. I’d definitely love to see that. Better get building!

An Unexpected Discovery

As soon as I’ve seen this photo’s thumbnail, it reminded me of Avatar. I turns out that -infomaniac- really based this creation on the Western Air Temple from the show. Amazing rock work, beautiful trees and architecture is what makes me like this.

An Unexpected Discovery

On the side note, if you still haven’t, it’s time to start watching the sequel to Avatar – Legend of Korra. You too might get inspired to build something as awesome as this.

Execute Order Chibi Chibi!!!

I have found in my years engrossed within the LEGO building community that builders utilizing the “Chibi” style of design are few and far between.  Kevin Ryhal has created a set of Chibi 501st ARF Troopers and AT-RT walkers from Star Wars: The Clone Wars.  His attention to detail mixed with his “Chibi-ness” design is amazing, but add in “mecha” style articulation to the joints and it becomes most impressive.

I was caught in the middle of the railroad track!

…oh wait, nevermind, that is ‘Thunderstruck‘…this is a ‘Thunderclap‘!?!?!

All jokes aside, Nathaniel Rehm-Daly (nate_daly) has built an absolutely stunning spacecraft out of the Star Wars Universe called a BT-7 Thunderclap. I am not familiar with the source at all, but was immediately able to recognize this as a Star Wars ship. Nate has perfectly captured that rough worn aesthetic that we all love.

Thunderclap

My favourite aspect of this build has to be the seemless integration of the wing folding mechanism.

Thunderclap

This thing totally wouldn’t have looked out place sitting in my toy box circa 1985 :D

Maleficent Dragon

Taylor (Stormbringer) has made an excellent rendition of Maleficent the dragon from Disney’s Sleeping Beauty. The dragon design is really quite stunning, and the fantastic landscaping is just icing on the cake!

Maleficent

He has posted this as a project on Cuusoo as well.

Be sure to check out the rest of Taylor’s dragons because he has some doozies!! One of which had been previously blogged.

Jordan Schwartz had also done this same scene from the movie a few years back…very neat to see the different takes on the same subject!

Whew…that was busy day :)

Batman’s other ride

Calin‘s Bat Rod is a nifty creation, but the presentation really makes it stand out. In addition to the appropriate brown vintage background, the lighting texture on the model (especially the roof) is gorgeous.

Thanks for the tip Ewok in Disguise!
