Designing Outside The Lines

1AM Gallery in San Francisco is hosting a LEGO based art show running April 26th through May 25th. There will be models, custom minifigs, traditional 2D art, and more. Check out the press release below for all the details and go easy on them for their use of “Legos”.

1AM is pleased to present, “Designing Outside The Lines”, opening April 26th, from 6:30-9:30pm, featuring custom works that explore and reinvent the classic Lego platform. Expect to see customizations of Lego pieces, the Lego Torch lamp and Lego Men, digital prints, original paintings and more. The exhibition will feature 1920s silent movie characters, lit Lego Men, mini mecha, maps, guns and wasps- to name a few!

Most of us played with Legos as children, but some of us never stopped. The artists in “Designing Outside The Lines” are some of the most prominent Lego and toy designers around the world, spanning from the US to the Netherlands. Whether they are using record breaking amounts of Lego pieces, introducing new materials to Lego customization, combining simple minifigs with complex machinery, or anonymously installing ginormous Lego men on public beaches- they are definitely some of the most imaginative artists out there.

For our premier Lego-inspired show at 1AM Gallery, curator James Brown invited the styles and imaginations of Ego Leonard, Legolize It Man, Bart de Dobbelaer, Brickthing, Bill Hewitt, Carson Catlin, Ian Ziobrowski, Josh Mayhem, Crestone, Dee Ten, One-Eyed-Girl, Michael Napolitan, MeSmithy, Citizen Brick and Mike Mendez. Join us in a land of Legos on April 26th, to see all the ingenious creations!

Pigs vs Cows vs ... Gingerbread Man?

Although Guy Himber’s Pigs vs. Cows project has reached its funding goal on Kickstarter (congrats!), he recently announced additional goodies such as an add-on Gingerbread Man minifig with Circus Animal cookie inspired Brickarms weapons!

Also announced, every order will be receiving a Cat Warrior, Zombie Pig, a Pigs vs Cows STUDS collectible trading card, and a V&A Steamworks STUDS card!

The incentives just keep adding up, so make sure to check out the project before it ends on April 18th. THAT’S ONLY 4 MORE DAYS!!!

Say Cheese!

Amateur and professional photographers alike may particularly appreciate RGB900’s striking brick recreation of a DSLR camera – complete with strap! The attention to detail and clever use of parts demonstrate how the medium really “lens” itself to this model. ISO recommend checking out more photos here.

I pulled it from the fire and called it Bat’leth!

Kahless cut a lock of his hair and dropped it into the lava of the Kri’stak volcano, then plunged the burning lock into the Lake of Lusor and twisted it into a blade. After forging the weapon, he used it to fight the tyrant Molor and then gave it its name, Bat’leth! Andrew Lee (onosendai2600) simply built it with Bionicle parts.

“Do not think of it as a weapon. Make it part of your hand – part of your arm. Make it part of you” – Worf

I will make you a Brick you can’t refuse.

Being a fan of movie related models, I really appreciate a builder going the extra mile on a build with screen accuracy and attention to detail. aemil.toe has done just that in this diorama from the classic film The Godfather.

Every time I try to leave, the brick pulls me back in!!!

PIGS vs. COWS!!!

In preparation for the Pigs vs. Cows theme at BrickCon 2013, Guy Himber (V&A Steamworks) has launched a Kickstarter campaign to produce minifig-compatible pig and cow heads!

Head over to Kickstater and pledge to get some of these great heads to spice up your Pigs vs Cows creations! Keep watch here on The Brothers Brick for more news on the Pigs vs. Cows theme and BrickCon 2013!!!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!!

What Books can stand against the Union of the Two Towers!?!?!

The Builds are changing. ∆TMM∆ has built the greatest bookends that Middle Earth has ever seen! These incredible, detailed micro-scale versions of Tower of Orthanc and Tower of Barad-dûr not only look great, but they serve a practical purpose as well.

Much larger versions of these Two Towers have been featured before on Brothers-Brick. OneLUG’s The Last March of the Ents and Kevin Walter’s Barad-dûr.

This Collection Will Make Your Skin Crawl!!!

Afraid of bugs? Well, Sean and Steph Mayo aka Siercon and Coral have built some spectacular insects and you don’t have to worry about them crawling all over you. And, if you are not freaked out, check out the great building techniques used to create the superb detail in these creations.

There are 10 total and each with amazing detail. Check out their photo set to see them all.
