Benny’s big blue house

Ever wonder what Benny the Spaceman’s house looks like? Well wonder no longer because Wayne Yeh has built the home of everyone’s favorite side-character from The Lego Movie. It’s blue and grey, of course, and filled with lots of classic space details including: a bacta-tank-like shower, a space toilet, a flat-screen, glass television, a greebled surround-sound system (or is that a space-lamp?), some kind of liquid food machine, and plenty of tiny habitats for growing food. What else could a Master Builder like Benny ask for?

This is a Hobbit-hole, and that means comfort

Tolkien’s fantastical cities and landscapes have always fascinated me, perhaps none more so than Hobbiton. I’ve seen several LEGO versions of Bag End over the years, but Wookieeawarrior‘s most recent build, refreshingly, isn’t the iconic home of Bilbo Baggins. Instead, this cozy Hobbit hole belongs to one of his lucky neighbors.

The overall shaping of the hill and exposed brick walls make for a very lovely composition. I particularly like the small, dark tan bricks that stick out just a bit more than the rest of the bricks, the cobbled-looking chimney, and the beautiful, round front door.

Two boldly go...

A couple of excellent microscale Star Trek spaceships for you. First up, this recreation of the classic Enterprise by hachiroku24 — a lovely little model elevated with some excellent photography…

And then there’s Ben Smith‘s cracking version of the Excelsior. If you fancy a go at building this little beautie for yourself, Ben’s been kind enough to provide the LDD file…

Ranger once again

We had previously featured a version of the Ranger 1 spacecraft from Interstellar movie but that’s no reason to skip another flawless model. Riskjockey worked hard and made four versions of Ranger 1 until coming up with a satisfying result. The end model is quite big at approximately 31.20 centimeters or 39 LEGO studs. Therefore he managed to squeeze in many play features including a rear hatch, airlock doors, opening cockpit, personalized minifigures and decorated interior with reclinable chairs! Life-size Unikitty uses 30,000 LEGO bricks and is 6 feet tall

The term “life-size” might be hard to define for a digitally animated LEGO cartoon character. But I’ll happily accept Christoph Bartneck‘s interpretation of the term with his gigantic LEGO version of Unikitty! Here is the creator with his creation:

I love the choice of sparkly eyes for the face. But the best part? The enormous head actually rotates, thanks to a LEGO compatible thrust ball-bearing that Christoph designed. Here’s a video showing the model from every angle and also demonstrating its unique power functions:

Official LEGO Star Wars Rogue One teaser image [News]

After seeing the Rogue One teaser trailer which was released last week, we’ve been very excited about the next installment in the Star Wars franchise. Unsurprisingly, we’ll be getting LEGO Star Wars sets from Rogue One as well as the main trilogy, and today LEGO has released their first teaser image featuring Rogue One’s main characters in LEGO form.

LEGO fans are also getting excited for the upcoming movie, and we’ve already started to spot Rogue One creations popping up. One of the first out of the gate is builder aranobilis98 with this great shot of the first Death Star under construction, as glimpsed in the trailer.

Alien kills Predator with a LEGO flipper

The 2004 movie Alien vs Predator was a clash of two eponymous sci-fi creatures to bring the comic action to the big screen. Grantmasters has captured the penultimate moment from the movie in LEGO, when the Alien Queen has mortally wounded Predator with a thrust of her tail to his torso and his green blood drips spills.

Grantmasters has cleverly utilised a host of parts to create this scene in ‘small scale’. Black minifigure hands form the feet of Alien, while lime green depict Predator’s dripping life-blood. The minifigure diver’s flipper also makes a fantastically unusual appearance as a wound!

The characters are cleverly built and a few subtle landscape details add to the scene without distracting from the main event. I hope Grantmasters continues with Alien vs Predator Requiem next…

The greatest gladiator match in the history of the world

God versus man. Day versus night. Son of Krypton versus Bat of Gotham! Despite terrible critic reviews, I enjoyed Batman v. Superman and thought there were some excellent scenes. And it seems builder Nathaniel shares my opinion. He must have appreciated the scene where Batman evades a heat vision blast using his trusty grappling hook because he has rendered it into LEGO beautifully.

Nathaniel’s harsh shadows and bold color choices masterfully evoke comic book art style. That heat vision explosion is fantastic! We’ve featured such “special effects” on The Brothers Brick before, but never one caused by a Kryptonian. Though this scene is not technically accurate (I’m not going to spoil the movie for those of you who haven’t seen it yet by pointing out the inaccuracy), it’s clear that Nathaniel decided to build what most people wanted (and expected) to see in the film. *Wink*

Tia Dalma’s swampy shack

Proving that even in the scariest of swamps one can find a place to call home, TBB mainstay Vitreolum has recreated the gorgeous shack dwelling of the sorceress Tia Dalma from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Contrasting the dark branches with bright green plants and swampy water really makes this creation pop. Jack Sparrow might be frightened by its overgrown appearance, but everyone else is in wonder of its whimsy and character.

27 amazing LEGO vignettes bring Harry Potter to life

The amazing world of Harry Potter is only made more fantastic when portrayed through tiny LEGO vignettes. When we first spotted Marcel V.‘s series of astounding little Harry Potter scenes, he’d only created 5. He’s created them as a personal project to challenge himself throughout the month of March, producing almost one every day, and he’s now reached 27. Marcel tells us he worked 3-4 hours daily to create the scenes, and relied on inspiration from the books, movies, and even some Harry Potter games.

LEGO Batman’s so awesome he gets two movie trailers in one week [News]

The first teaser trailer for the new LEGO Batman movie was only released 4 days ago, but apparently Batman is impatient and couldn’t wait for us to have another hilarious look at the brick-built world of Gotham’s battiest hero. The film, which is a spinoff of 2014’s The LEGO Movie, is slated for a Feb. 10, 2017 release.

LEGO Angry Birds 75824: Pig City Teardown [Review]

The first wave of Angry Bird sets have already been released here in the UK, and consists of six sets ranging from Set 75821 Piggy Car Escape (Price UK £11.99/US $12.99) to Set 75826 King Pig’s Castle (Price UK £74.99/US $89.99). You can see the full lineup in our initial news coverage of the Angry Birds sets, and we also got a first-hand look at them at Toy Fair New York last month. The Angry Birds sets are due for release in the US in April and are not available online or within the US LEGO Stores at present. The Angry Birds sets are all colourful and enticing for the ‘recommended’ age range, between 6-12 or 8-14 as the set size increases. For those of us who are perhaps slightly older than this range, fear not…there are a host of new moulds, re-colours and great new printed tiles that will also bring great joy.
