It may not be advanced, but this Twin Ion Engine fighter (aka TIE fighter) by Tim Goddard is quite stunning. It looks fragile and tough all at the same time. There’s a lot of detail packed into this simple little build. Those lipstick laser cannons are genius, and the SNOT wings are masterfully constructed using hinges, plates, slopes, bars, and even robot hands.

Technically, this LEGO Godzilla is in a thousand pieces
Godzilla is an iconic beast who first appeared in Ishirō Honda‘s 1954 film Godzilla and has remained a feature of Japanese pop culture ever since. There have been many builders who have created a LEGO Godzilla, but this version by 62778grenouille really caught my attention. Firstly, it’s huge. And secondly, it has been built in the most extraordinary manner, using Technic parts that seem to flow into the shape of Godzilla.

Help me Obi Wan Kenobi, you’re my only hope...
With the recent passing of the actors that portrayed them, we’ve seen a number of fantastic LEGO models of Star Wars characters Princess Leia and R2-D2. But none have captured the connection between these two like Miro Dudas has in this recreation of a scene from A New Hope that really requires no introduction.
In the following loveable hug that would melt any astromech’s circuits, one can almost imagine that this is from an out-take on the set! Miro’s builds have undergone several iterations, and this modified Leia now sports articulation at both the neck and hips, allowing the model to pose perfectly. Meanwhile, his version of R2 possesses a fully retractable 3rd leg, pivoting side legs, and a rotating head! While there are many LEGO R2-D2 designs out there, both official and fan-created, Miro’s is one of my favourites at this scale.
Bring me Solo and the wookiee
The galaxy’s favorite space-slug gangster, Jabba the Hutt, is one of Star Wars’ more recognizable aliens. Jabba is cold and cruel, but still enjoys the finer points of life on the harsh world of Tatooine.
Robert Lundmark has captured the slimy villain with great attention to detail. The contouring and coloring of Jabba’s massive form is impressive, the base is clean and sharp, the subtly angled face is ingenious, but it’s the eyes that catch my attention most of all. It’s a small detail like that that can really turn a build from a pile of bricks into a living character.

Dark Tower from the Stephen King novels in LEGO
The Dark Tower series of books by Stephen King is quickly entering the public eye as the upcoming movie draws closer to release. While it’s on everyone’s minds, David Collins has created his own version of the mystical structure in LEGO. Designed for a “books to life” exhibit of LEGO creations, this Tower stands two feet (~61 centimetres) tall. Collins had intended to make the tower taller, but was restricted to this height by the rules of the exhibit. I’m sure you’ll agree that it’s worth questing for regardless.
And what is a Dark Tower without a gunslinger to find it? Collins has also created a minifigure of protagonist Roland Deschain to go with it.
On a personal note, I can’t wait to see this movie. I love the books and, by a strange coincidence, they began filming the movie right here in my home country of South Africa.
Lord of the Rings: Search for the One Ring
This dark creation explores a fourth instalment of LOTR that we will never see on the big screen. The question posed by Jaden Ho‘s creation is… what if the evil Nazgûl tried to go back for the One Ring? He also playfully adds Frodo’s greed to retrieve the One Ring in his attempt to fish it from the pits of Mount Doom while the Eye of Sauron watches in distress over yonder.
In collaboration with photographer Daniel Yang, Jaden gives the scene atmospheric feeling that puts some sense of gloom into the cleverly constructed boiling lava. We all take comfort in knowing that the One Ring has been destroyed forever …or has it?
Holy kid-in-a-candy-store Batman!
Who hasn’t developed a soft spot for Robin from the upcoming LEGO Batman Movie? It’s clear that LEGO 7 certainly has, and what a fantastic job he has done capturing the essence of the character with this adorable creation. The first things you notice about Dick Grayson’s creatively-posed alter ego are the googly eyes, windswept hair and goofy smile. The bespectacled boy wonder sits surrounded by a wonderful collection of Bat-vehicles: various Bat-mobiles, Bat-wings, and other Bat-paraphernalia.

LEGO fan spends 6 years perfecting Klingon Bird of Prey
Back in 2010, German builder Kevin J. Walter designed an impressive LEGO Klingon Bird of Prey using virtual bricks. Now, just in time for the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, Kevin’s six year mission to recreate that design using 25,000 real LEGO bricks is finally complete, and the result is phenomenal!
Kevin’s design is simply stunning. I love everything about this build, from the spot-on color palette to the intricate shaping and detailing in the wings. Even the exposed studs feel right for this Klingon vessel. Of course, there is also some great part’s usage in here too. Can you spot the guns belonging to Toy Story’s Army Men and Bilbo Baggin’s front door?

Gone but not forgotten my beautiful Princess
As we all find our ways to accept the loss of a beloved Princess, our hearts are still torn and our tears still do not dry. It is only apt at this time to listen to the wise words of Yoda and find some solace in our sadness: “Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them do not. Miss them do not.”
Jeffrey Kong pays tribute using his talents to honour Carrie Fisher with this angelic LEGO creation. Part of Jeffrey’s inspiration was her lesser-known deeds off the screen. She was a leading advocate and activist for mental health awareness and the fight against drug addiction. We no longer see Carrie and Leia as two separate individuals, but as one.
for you are now One with the Force.
Continue to inspire us and Awaken our minds,
and give us the strength to never give up Hope.
