Films and the cinema provide a lot of great inspiration for LEGO builders all over the world. You’ll find LEGO models inspired by everything from Mad Max to Toy Story here.

Tripping the light fantastic with this Tron cycle

Hot on the heels of the official duo of cycles from Tron: LegacyFictitious Pasta brings us this epic microscale version of the bike from the original Tron film. The simple setting with scattered rocks and a gleaming light streak is perfect for the digital frontier. And in a twist that seems particularly appropriate, this model exists only in digital form, as the scene is an excellent CGI render.

........I got In

This model may be tiny, but don’t miss the excellent large-scale version of the same vintage Tron bike we also featured recently.

Cruise virtual worlds in the LEGO Tron Vintage Light Cycle

Like the upcoming LEGO Ideas Light Cycles set, Joe Perez drew inspiration from Tron: Legacy and constructed a beautifully contoured LEGO rendition of the vintage Light Cycle from the original Tron. Great care for the detail and forms of the classic vehicle is evident in his model, and the addition of teal highlights is a fine choice.

Joe even created a rider for his Light Cycle, posing confidently with awesome wind-swept hair techniques.

LEGO Ideas Tron Legacy lightbikes revealed in teaser trailer [News]

LEGO occasionally releases little teaser videos to announce their upcoming sets, and we started this week off with the Harry Potter Fantastic Beasts trailer. Today we’re getting the first look at the new Tron set from LEGO Ideas that we first announced back in November.

Future LA has never looked cuter

“Cute” isn’t a word you’d normally associate with the dystopian cyberpunk future envisioned in Blade Runner. However, that’s what comes to mind with automaton120‘s futuristic microscale LEGO street scene. The backdrop nicely evokes the neon-soaked architecture of cyberpunk-LA, but the stars of the show here are the vehicles. That police spinner is a cracking little model, and the others really capture the feel of the cars and trucks in the movie. The presentation of the model could have been better, maybe clipping the ugly sheet backdrop out of the image, and some image processing could have added lens flare to the signage and vehicle lights etc. But not every builder likes to add post-production effects, so that’s nit-picking at an otherwise cool LEGO creation.

Microscale Blade Runner - A Dangerous Diorama

Regular readers will know we like us a LEGO Police Spinner here on TBB. Syd Mead’s classic design is a rite-of-passage build for any self-respecting sci-fi builder. We’ve featured a few brilliant examples in our time — including this stunning rain-soaked Blade Runner scene from Tyler — but we don’t see a lot of microscale versions, so this creation was too cute to pass up.

Original Jurassic Park LEGO set revealed, along with more from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom [News]

We thought we’d already seen the full lineup of LEGO sets accompanying this summer’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom after getting a look at the New York Toy Fair and seeing the official photos of those sets last week. However, today Walmart has revealed even more sets, including a throwback to the original Jurassic Park that includes Dr. Grant, Ellie, Lex, and Tim in an iconic and terrifying scene with a velociraptor. LEGO is heavily investing in this license, with more than a dozen new sets across System, Juniors, and Duplo.

Disney Pixar’s Incredibles 2 LEGO Juniors sets revealed [News]

Disney Pixar’s Incredibles 2, the long-awaited sequel to one of Pixar’s most beloved films, is slated to be released in theatres June 15, 2018. We’re getting a look at the upcoming LEGO sets ahead of time, so do proceed with caution as there may be some spoiler scenes ahead. These sets are expected to be released in May 2018. We got an in-person look at these at the New York Toy Fair last month, but weren’t permitted to take photos.

Someone cast Reducio on Diagon Alley

This microscale scene by Nicolas Kolbeck is instantly recognizable to any Harry Potter fan as the eclectic wizard village found on the other side of a brick wall behind the Leaky Cauldron in London. Even more impressive than the many details that stand out, like the angled windows of Olivander’s shop and the leaning pillars of Gringot’s Bank, is how recognizable the various miniature characters are. Notice the fez part used as a skirt for Hermione, and see if you can name the rest.

Curiously, the only thing that went through the mind of the bowl of petunias as it fell was “Oh no, not again”

Douglas Adams’ quirky comedy sci-fi series The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy arrived on our planet exactly 40 years ago today, introducing our primitive human brains to such concepts as Vogons, Babel fish, infinite improbability drives, towels and the ravenous bugblatter beast of Traal. Broadcast as a radio series in the UK, the story has been adapted and reworked as a TV show, stage show, novels, comic books, a video game and most recently a big budget movie.

To mark the show’s anniversary, the BBC is launching an all-new radio adaption which begins today! Above is my personal LEGO tribute to this frequently-quoted staple of British popular culture. It depicts various Hitchhiker’s Guide characters floating helplessly in space (including a small Easter egg in honor of one particularly famous Adams fan).

This is an illegal exit, you must return to the grid!

While we so anxiously wait for the official Ideas release of the Tron Legacy Light Cycle later this year, this might be the next best thing to hold us over. Even though Grantmasters makes this tiny creation with only about 10 elements (not counting the base), the transparent orange and blue ‘jetwall’ makes this classic instantly recognisable. While it may look simple, Grantmasters says that it took over 100 photo shots to get the right lighting and effect he wanted. Talk about dedication to the art!

65,000 bricks at 88 miles per hour: The world’s biggest LEGO DeLorean from Back to the Future

While this LEGO recreation of the famous Back to the Future DeLorean time machine may not be the scientific breakthrough a real time machine would be, it most definitely is a great artistic feat. After being granted rights by NBC Universal, Ryan McNaught assembled a team to build this near-perfect version of the DeLorean from the first film out of 65,143 bricks.

A Stormtrooper’s standard-issue blaster replicated in LEGO

Daryl Ng complements his LEGO Han Solo’s blaster with the classic E-11 blaster rifle seen in the original Star Wars trilogy. His LEGO rendition is true to the props seen on-screen, capturing the Sterling SMG underneath and various sci-fi details. Like his previous blaster build, the E-11 is presented with a display stand featuring a UCS-style specification card.
