The drinks are on us

When you think of Star Wars, the first things that come to mind are likely spaceships and laser swords. But cantinas occupy an only slightly less iconic place in the lore of that galaxy far, far away. One of those seedy, backwater bars is the Half-Pint Cantina, proprietor Hass Mavoc, brought to us in LEGO form by bcinman6. A character from the builder’s own imagination, Hass is a Sarian barkeep with some excellent shaping to achieve his alien features. Most notable are the red Hulk arms used behind the eyes and the space armor for the mouth.

The spectacular, marvellous and wonderful Incredibles

We’ve seen great builds of the Parr family before, but these Incredibles by Philippe Moisan take them to a whole new scale. Despite the somewhat minimalist styyle, they subtly yet splendidly capture the essence of each of the characters in their animated form. One can tell how each LEGO part was specially chosen for a particular reason. For instance, Mr. Incredible’s mask looks perfect made with only the 1×2 rounded plate with open studs. And you have to love the creative simplification of the insignia on his chest, which is simply an incredible work of art!

Mini-Ecto is here to deal with all of your mini-ghosts

In the era of tiny city apartments only the tiniest of ghosts can afford haunting residents of large cities. And since there are no creatures capable of destroying a whole block, why bother rolling out the mighty Ecto-1? Mini-Ecto-1 is on its way to take down a ghost in your tiny kitchen! Koala Yummies plays around with the 1967 Mini Cooper S from LEGO Speed Champions 75894 set and skilfully turns it into an adorable addition to the Ghostbustrs’ garage. I particularly love the use of curved slope with Ghostbusters logo pattern on the side of the Mini; it looks like the piece was designed solely for this lovely build!

A new order of LEGO TIE Fighter

Like us, Koen Zwanenburg was amazed by the LEGO TIE Fighter models created by fellow builder Jarek, but rather than just marveling, he thought he’d have a shot at building a world-class TIE Fighter himself. Judging by the results, it’s quite a success. While at first glance the build may seem to take a similar approach as Jarek’s, Koen has actually redone the model from the ground up. Naturally, the convergent evolution of the building process means that there are some similarities (and the fact that they’re both based on the same Star Wars ship), but it’s truly remarkable how different this model is while being just as accurate.

The ability to achieve clean lines with minimal studs visible on a ship this lean is an accomplishment not be underestimated. I can almost hear the TIE’s distinctive engine roar now…

In space, no one can hear you scream

These Cryo Pods built by Peter Reid evoke the eerie feeling of Ridley Scott’s Alien hiding in the corner ready to pounce. The abundant use of grey paired with dramatic lighting gives off the feelings of being far away from earth and long travel in cold reaches of space. The scene is built with almost no LEGO studs visible, which also tricks our minds to believe that this could be larger than what it actually is — at first glance almost close to a movie-scale prop.

The Lego Movie 2’s biggest set: 70840 Welcome To Apocalypseburg [Review]

The LEGO Movie 2’s range of sets has got us excited, not least because of Classic LEGO Space astronauts in multiple colours. But what really set hearts aflutter and pulses racing here at Brothers Brick was the reveal of the massive 70840 Welcome To Apocalypseburg — a shanty town built around a fallen Statue of Liberty, apparently Emmet & Co.’s new home town in the forthcoming film.

70840 Welcome To Apocalypseburg includes 3,178 pieces and 12 minifigures. The set is available now for LEGO VIPs, and is on general release February 1st, 2019 from the LEGO Shop (US $299.99 | CA $399.99 | UK £279.99).

Don’t pick a fight with the mother of all aliens

One of my favorite movies of all time is Aliens, and I get giddy when I see any one of them being created with LEGO bricks. There’s just a feeling of biomechanics involved from H.R.Giger’s original design and the eventual creatures we see on the big screen that makes it believable with a brick built design. This rendition by Carter Baldwin is quite amazing as the whole build is supported on its own legs. All we need now are some flamethrowers and Ellen Ripley to show up and get this party started!

LEGO Collectible Minifigures 71023 for The LEGO Movie 2 officially revealed [News]

Today we’re getting our first official, high-quality look at LEGO’s newest line of Collectible Minifigures, featuring characters from The LEGO Movie 2, thanks to LEGO’s Chinese and Taiwanese first-quarter catalogs. This series, 71023 The LEGO Movie 2 Collectible Minifigures will feature 20 characters from the new film, some of which are cross-licensed with The Wizard of Oz. The Wicked Witch of the West and her Flying Monkeys made an appearance in The LEGO Batman Movie with sets such as The Ultimate Batmobile, and it looks like the rest of the gang is showing up in The LEGO Movie 2. Most other sets for The LEGO Movie 2 are already available. The film comes out Febuary 8.

Simultaneously, German retailer B&B published their listing for the new series, providing us with a few extra details, such as the case image.

Princess Monoblock protects the forest

The blocky Brickheadz building style meets classic Japanese anime in this cubist LEGO rendition of San from Studio Ghibli’s Princess Mononoke. Immediately recognisable to fans of the movie, Nathan DeCastro‘s model captures all the essential elements of the famous character. Those streaks of red makeup are perfect, tapering to a point thanks to the use of curved 1×1 tiles, and the white fur headdress and the necklace are excellent. Now all this needs is a giant wolf built to the appropriate scale!

Incredible LEGO Star Wars Death Star trench run hides a full interior packed with hilarious scenes

There have been some pretty spectacular LEGO versions of Star Wars’ iconic trench run over the years, setting the bar pretty high for anyone taking on the theme. Pro building group Olive Seon have risen to the challenge, deploying intricate details worthy of the original Industrial Light and Magic model. Its nifty laser towers and exploded Y-wing fighter demonstrating some serious building talent, and a hefty upgrade from their first version, which we covered back in 2015.

The surprises don’t end here: rotate the diorama to reveal a complete Death Star interior. Each of the space station’s rooms acting as individual vignettes, from a scene showing Obi Wan’s deactivation of the tractor beam to a battalion of stormtroopers caught mid-explosion. There is plenty of humour here too: ever wanted to see the battle station’s locker room? Well now you can. My favourite feature though is the hilariously over-sized BrickHeadz Stormtrooper herding his droids.

Awesome 8-foot-long LEGO Indiana Jones diorama recreates Raiders of the Lost Ark intro [Video]

After wowing us with an amazing collaborative diorama of Cloud City, builder Caleb Watson has turned his skills to another classic Harrison Ford franchise, Indiana Jones. In this huge diorama, Indy runs through all the perils from the opening sequence of Raiders of the Lost Ark as he escapes the temple with the idol. But this diorama holds a secret: it’s completely motorized, with minifigure Indy actually dodging each of the traps.

First Captain Marvel LEGO set officially revealed [News]

Today LEGO and Marvel have revealed the first set from the upcoming Avengers prequel movie Captain Marvel, which is set to hit theaters March 8, 2019. The set, 76127 Captain Marvel and The Skrull Attack, includes the superhero’s ship (which appears to be an early version of the Quinjet), and minifigures of Captain Marvel, Nick Fury, and a Skrull, along with Goose the cat. The set includes 307 pieces, and while there’s no official word yet on the price, we expect it to retail for $30 USD based on retailers stocking the set early in Canada for $39.99 CAD. There’s also no release date, but it’s clear it will be on sale soon given that some retailers already have the set in hand.
