We all love a good LEGO Gundam or Macross mecha, but LEGO builders everywhere are also creating excellent models of their own designs. Have a look at them here.

More pumpkin, anyone?

Apparently it’s called the Pumpkinator. By Nathan Proudlove.

Mecha goes primal

Alex Fojtik‘s Hoodoo mecha is powered by voodoo magic from the shrunken heads and the bones in its “sack.” This is a refreshing take on the mecha theme to say the least.

Lurker in the darkness

Apparently I was by far from being the only fan of Mike Foy‘s monster called The Void. The simple use of the new claws are are extremely effective along with the arms made out of lever bases and the string wrapped around the torso.

You are the resistance.

After really enjoying Terminator Salvation last year, I thought we’d see quite a few LEGO creations inspired by the movie, but the only LEGO I’d run across was my own Terminator Salvation minifigs.

Thankfully, tbone_tbl seems to have appreciated what I think is the best movie in the series, and has created a microscale vignette of the first scene in the movie.

LEGO Terminator Salvation diorama

The micro A-10 Warthog in the foreground is certainly nice, but that Harvester mech in the background is excellent.

Robo-Rex

While this creation may not quite be Grimlock from the Transformers, it IS a robotic Tyrannosaurus Rex. Built by Alyse and Remi (or maybe only one of them, but it’s a shared flickr account) this creation really packs in the details. Plus, it’s got style.

I’m enjoying the mix of functional and decorative on this model. Many of the joints are geared, but there appear to be others used for visual effect. The various bar shapes lead to an image of a cage over the functional bits. Add in a perfectly expressive face (after all, a T-Rex should only have to look scary) and you’re left with a truly excellent creation.

Stomping across the blasted landscape

This quartet of mecha by Aaron Dayman reminds me of the surprisingly moving story “The People of Sand and Slag” by Paolo Bacigalupi (anthologized in Wastelands: Stories of the Apocalypse).

LEGO mecha raiding party

Each suit is unique, and sports some great stickers. Check out the full photoset for shots of each suit.

Conquering Atlantis

In this two-for-one post (and an excuse to blog my own creation), I highlight two new ways of having your way in the underwater world of LEGO Atlantis. First, my Harpoon Hunter is a combat mecha to fend off the guardians of Atlantis. The model was a result of my desire to test an incredibly useful joint technique I recently learned.

Next, Moritz Nolting (nolnet) depicts a vicious hunting vessel chasing a mersquid (the fusion of a mermaid and a squidman). I’m happy to see that we both agree on the use of certain plant life for the seabed, but Moritz’s view of the flora and fauna is obvious more fertile than mine.

Cole is bugging me

This Battle Bug, by Cole Blaq, is climbing out of my screen and coming after me. I’m going to post it so it can infest your life as well. Why should I be the only one?

V2 Gundam with transformation video!

Torri Ares‘s Victory 2 Gundam not only transforms from Core Fighter mode to mobile suite mode but it does so with music synchronization. The included video is a must-see, featuring a time-lapse build, transformation process and more with stellar presentation.

Underwater love

Jas sub-suit

Jas Nagra (J5N) has drawn inspiration from Soren Roberts and Tim Zarki for his brilliantly presented ORAS MkIV. Pretty good looking for a tube with arms.

Cute But Tough

There’s something quite compelling to me about this little mecha by _Nash. It somehow manages to look adorable and armored at the same time.

The shield on the shoulder is a great touch. I’m a big fan of yellow and dark gray together, too. If you get a chance, make sure to check out the power unit on the backside.

This biomechanical centipede will make scrap metal of your resistance

Joseph Kazmo, whom you may remember from his Star Wars advanced alts from way back, is finally building again after a lengthy building hiatus. This biomechanical centipede is the appetizer for a “mechanical fantasy theme that combines Medieval times with technology and wizardry.” I look forward to this theme with eager anticipation.
