LEGO Ideas 21351 Disney Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas – a beloved classic comes to life [Review]

Since its premiere in 1993, Tim Burton’s Disney animated film The Nightmare Before Christmas, directed by Henry Selick (who went on to direct other stop-motion classics such as James and the Giant Peach and Coraline), has been a favorite holiday tradition for families and children-at-heart worldwide. LEGO fans have been eager for an official set and had their appetites whetted somewhat by the release of collectible minifigures for Jack and Sally as part of the second Disney CMF series. The LEGO Ideas platform has had several projects inspired by the film submitted over the years but they have never been approved to become official sets… until now. LEGO Ideas 21351 Disney Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas comes with 2,193 pieces and will be available starting on September 3rd for LEGO insiders and September 6th for everyone else for US $199.99 | CAN $TBD | UK £189.99.

New LEGO sets for August 2024 now available for purchase [News]

Summer is in full swing for the northern hemisphere, and LEGO fans are discovering a massive wave of new sets releasing on the LEGO website today. With offerings from Star Wars, Marvel, Technic, LEGO Ideas, and other themes, there’s plenty to have a gander at. I’m particularly excited about releases like LEGO Technic 42182 NASA Apollo Lunar Roving Vehicle – LRV, LEGO Star Wars 75389 The Dark Falcon, and Marvel 76297 Dancing Groot. Of course we won’t be able to cover everything, but check out all the highlights from this month’s new releases below. LEGO and Universal reveal the next set in the LEGO Ideas line: 21350 JAWS [News]

LEGO has partnered with Universal to release a diorama based on the classic 1975 summer thriller, Jaws. Who hasn’t gotten in the ocean, pool, or even the bath tub and uttered the sounds, “Da-Dum . . Da-Dum . . Da-Dum”? Now you will have the ability to do it with a brick-built version of the subsurface behemoth that terrorized the town of Amity Island in 1975 with LEGO Ideas 21350 JAWS. Comprised of The Orca, Bruce the shark, and minifigure versions of Martin Brody, Matt Hooper and Sam Quint, the 1497-piece set will be available for US $149.99 | CAN $TBD | UK £129.99 starting August 6th. But LEGO Insiders get to dive in early with access starting August 3rd.

An artist’s journey in full bloom

As a three-time member of the LEGO Ideas 10K club with some of the most stunning modular buildings we’ve ever seen, Jiwoo Seon has become something of a celebrity in the LEGO community. But those past works didn’t prepare us for her latest masterpiece: a gallery-ready floral artwork built for the (now-concluded) Create Your Own Exhibition contest. Overture of Blossoms: Journey to Freedom is the builder’s most personal work to date.

New LEGO sets for April 2024 now available for purchase [News]

Don’t be fooled! April 1st means a new wave of LEGO sets hitting store shelves. And while the offerings aren’t as plentiful as those we saw in March, there’s a couple of behemoths that have arrived (for LEGO Insiders only) which are destined to quickly sell-out: LEGO Ideas 21348 Dungeons and Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale and LEGO Batman 76271 Batman: The Animated Series Gotham City. LEGO unveils Dungeons & Dragons set and announces upcoming minifigure series [News]

Back in 2022, LEGO ran a contest on their Ideas platform asking fans to celebrate the 50th anniversary of tabletop RPG Dungeons and Dragons (D&D). The winner was announced last year, and today, we can see the final product. LEGO has unveiled 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale, a 3,745-piece set that will retail for US $359.99 | CAN $469.99 | UK £314.99 starting from April 1st for LEGO Insiders (April 4th for everyone else). Additionally: if you order your copy of this set before April 7th, you can get your hands on a free LEGO Dungeons & Dragons Mimic Dice Box. A special D&D adventure book will also be available from D&D Beyond and for LEGO Insiders, either as a free digital download or a paperback book for 2,700 Insiders points.

A D&D LEGO Minifigure series has also been announced, with a launch date of September 2024. To celebrate all this, fan designer Lucas Bolt and LEGO Designer Jordan Scott met up with famous D&D players Anjali Bhimani, Luis Carazo and Ginny Di to record an adventure of their own. This will go live at 9:00 PDT/12:00 EDT/17:00 BST on the 6th of April at LEGO.com/DnD. This month on the LEGO website, there aren’t too many new sets hitting the virtual store shelves. But the ones that have just been released are some real heavy hitters. With a pair of offerings from both the LEGO Icons and LEGO Ideas themes, adult fans are definitely going to be making some space on their shelves. LEGO Ideas announces the next set in the theme as 21347 Red London Telephone Box [News]

LEGO Ideas has been on a roll lately, springboarding off the release of 21344 Orient Express Train back in December into a wave of set announcements including 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera and 21346 Family Tree so far this year. And we can now tack one more onto the list as well. Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the K2 Telephone Box, LEGO will release LEGO Ideas 21347 Red London Telephone Box next month. Based on the original submission by John Cramp, this model stands nearly a foot tall (30 cm), and has the iconic crimson booth stood along the fictional English street of Buildmore Road. The set also has a built-in stand to hold your cell phone for all the Anglophiles looking to add this to their collections. LEGO Ideas 21347 Red London Telephone Box, 1460 pieces large, will be available from LEGO.com on February 1st for LEGO Insiders (February 4th for everyone else) and will retail for US $114.99 | CAN $149.99 | UK £99.99.

The east coast of the US is celebrating the calendar change over to 2024, and LEGO fans are celebrating the release of new sets at the beginning of another month. And with about 150 new sets hitting virtual store shelves, there’s certainly plenty to celebrate. This latest wave of new sets includes an interesting concept: a space-based cross-theme concept showing up in Technic, City, Creator, and Friends. Of course we won’t be able to cover everything, but check out a smattering of the highlights on this New Year’s Release Day below. LEGO Ideas reveals their next set as 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera [News]

Hot on the heels of 21344 The Orient Express Train, LEGO Ideas has yet another offering for us, debuting in the new year. 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera marks the 53rd product in the Ideas line. The 516-piece model includes a viewfinder, dials, and a functioning shutter button that interacts with the included LEGO-themed “photos.” We haven’t seen many 1:1 scale sets from LEGO, with the most notable in this category being the LEGO Ideas 21327 Typewriter from 2021. For shutterbugs and LEGO enthusiasts looking to get their hands on the LEGO Ideas 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera, the set will be available from LEGO’s website on January 1, retailing for US $79.99 | CAN $99.99 | UK £69.99.

LEGO Ideas turns fifteen and they celebrate in style

LEGO Ideas is sort of a crowd-sourced concept in which fans can have their idea turned into a set if it reaches the requisite 10,000 votes and other criteria. They’re running a 15th Anniversary concept and ImaginaryFarmer answers the call of duty in style with this Ideas Tree. As it grows, it spawns as many good ideas as the program itself. 15 is carved into the tree’s bark just in case you missed the whole anniversary point. Comprising a bit over 20,000 pieces, it isn’t likely this concept would become a set (if that was indeed the point of the contest) but we can’t deny how startlingly cool this creation is. The Idea Gnomes at it’s base take care of the tree and harvest its good ideas; which, I’m pretty sure, scientifically explains the Ideas process. Do you know what the first LEGO Ideas set was? It was the Shinkai 6500 Japanese submersible back when LEGO Ideas was called LEGO Cuusoo.
