Put the pedal to the metal (or punk or rockabilly)

Whether you have a real electric guitar or the new LEGO one it’s only a matter of time before you start tinkering with other sound effects. It would seem that LEGO builder Rubblemaker is also astute at making music. The set came with a tiny, measly foot switch so he remedied that situation with a petal board suitable enough to turn any aspiring guitar player into a rock god. From guitar to amp we have a Cry Baby Wah Wah Pedal, a Rat distortion pedal, BOSS Chromatic Tuner, BOSS Chorus, BOSS Phaser, and lastly (my favorite) the Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi providing a nice throaty fuzz.Put it all together and you’re ready to get the band back together. LEGO Ideas officially reveals 21329 Fender Stratocaster buildable guitar with 2 colors [News]

Today LEGO is finally revealing the official design for the LEGO Ideas 21329 Fender Stratocaster. The design was created by fan Tomáš Letenay as part of the Music to Our Ears contest for the crowdsourcing platform, and although it didn’t win the fan vote, LEGO designers specially selected it to become a set in September of 2020. The official set will include a version of the famous Fender Stratocaster guitar from the 1970s, and like the original submission, its 1,074 pieces include parts to build the guitar along with an amp. You’ll also get the option to build the guitar in either red or black. The set will be available starting Oct. 1 for US $99 | CAN $139.99 | UK £99. We rock out with the LEGO Ideas 21329 Fender Stratocaster Guitar [Review]

Once again the LEGO Ideas team gave the public what they had voted for and this time they had acquired a license with Fender to produce a faithful facsimile of the Fender Stratocaster. The Stratocaster, or the “Strat” as it’s affectionately called, is one of the most iconic electric guitars of all time (it’s within the top two!). Tomáš Letenay is the fan designer for this set, but does LEGO’s interpretation of his design crank the awesomeness up to eleven or does it fall a bit F-flat? Our guitar enthusiast reviewer gets his hands on a copy to find out. LEGO Ideas 21329 Fender Stratocaster consists of 1,074 pieces and retails for US $99 | CAN $139.99 | UK £99 and is available October 1.

A flying Flying V? That’s unexpected.

The Cyber Metal 2, a speeder bike with some highly unusual styling, is a fun creation from Julius Kanand.  Sure, you’ve probably heard of Flying V guitars, but how do you like this flying Flying V? I’m particularly fond of the transparent bright green accents, the speaker cones that double as thrusters, and the use of 1×1 round speaker tiles. Part Doof Wagon, part Star Wars, this build is music to our ears.

LEGO Ideas First 2020 Review Results: only one project (out of 26) approved so far [News]

Today, the LEGO Ideas design team finally announced the First 2020 Review Results. This review round included 26 projects that reached 10,000 supporters between January and May 2020. Surprisingly enough, only one project was approved to become an official LEGO Ideas set so far — Earth Globe by Guillaume Roussel (aka Disneybrick55). Designers praise the idea for its possible educational application and display value. Release date, price range, and availability are yet to be announced.

A not-quite standard “Standard”

The Gibson Les Paul was one of the first mass-produced solid-body electric guitars. There are a lot of versions and editions, but this is the first time I’ve seen one made out of LEGO, at least at a 1:1 scale. Builder morimorilego has paid close attention to realism in this reproduction of the “Les Paul Standard”. The body is decked out in layers of red, orange, and yellow tile and brick, with the pickguard standing out in vibrant white. Golden dishes and transparent yellow 2×2 round brick are used for the control knobs, and the output jack is courtesy of a system wheel rim. Those details complement the work done in the neck and headstock, which help make this build feel like it’s ready to play.

First study, then rock out!

A builder who goes by the name of DOGOD brick design has a dream. It’s a very specific one. It takes place back in his school days and he is studying at a fast-food restaurant. He listens to rock music and once his studies are done, his electric guitar is right there for when he wants to totally rock out! Apparently DOGOD is also a lion. That sounds like a few dreams I’ve had actually, minus the homework, but totally the rockin’ lion part. I approve of the pink and purple streaks in his mane.

A spider worth thrashing with

When you see a spider crawling around, is your first inclination to use the power of your shoes? What if I told you you could be snuffing out the next ace arachnid guitar player like Grayson M‘s Sid the Spider. He looks frighteningly awesome, right down to his studded jacket, sharp-looking shoes, and classic red and white guitar. He even has a golden ring on one of his left legs; that’s so eight-legged metal!

It should come as a surprise to no one that I am an expert bassist. And by expert I mean I can play that one riff from “7 Nation Army”. Over and over again. For like nine hours at a time if you request it, and I sincerely hope that you do someday. An array of cool petals would only make the experience that much sweeter because variety is the spice of life, after all. As enriching as that would be for all of us, despite my best intentions, I don’t think I could look as cool as Zinnia Superfuzz while doing it. She’s a new creation by Eero Okkonen and everything from her stance to her rocking flower power clothing and awesome yellow bass says she’s going to take expert to a whole new level that would put me to shame, I’m sure.

Still, if you care to be dazzled, I am also fairly proficient at that one intro riff from “Smoke on the Water.” Just putting that out there.

An Old Lady you really want to cradle in your arms

Music is cool. Electric guitars are cool. Brian May, the guitarist for Queen, is cool. The Red Special, the electric guitar that Brian May designed and built with his father is very cool. You know what else is cool? LEGO. And here’s something very, very, cool – Nick Jensen‘s stunning 1:1 replica of the Red Special in LEGO.
