LEGO Harry Potter BrickHeadz: 41616 Hermione Granger / 41621 Ron Weasley and Albus Dumbledore [Review]

As LEGO continues to paint every conceivable theme with a BrickHeadz brush, we can expect to see BrickHeadz from most of their licensed properties, and the Wizarding World is the latest to succumb to the block-headed wave of brick-built figures. A few weeks ago, we took a look at the first set in the series, 41615 Harry Potter & Hedwig. Today we’re turning to the other two sets based on the classic Harry Potter films, 41616 Hermoine Granger and 41621 Ron Weasley & Albus Dumbledore. They retail for $9.99 and $19.99 USD, respectively. Hermione includes 127 pieces, while the two-pack includes 245 pieces. They are available now in the USA and will be available elsewhere beginning Aug. 1.

Third San Diego Comic-Con 2018 LEGO exclusive revealed as Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp [News]

The third and final set out of the three VHS-boxed-exclusives has been revealed and it is not a surprise to see a Marvel franchise attached to the theme. Ant-Man is featured as a bust together with a Wasp minifigure from the upcoming movie, emerging out of the bay in Giant-Man form (as seen in the trailers).

LEGO Star Wars BrickHeadz: 41619 Darth Vader and 41620 Stormtrooper [Review]

Nowadays, we’re slowly approaching the point at which, when spotting a new BrickHeadz set on a store shelf, you might wonder, “I thought they’d already released this BrickHeadz character!” And this is no joke — with almost 60 figures released so far one can easily lose track of characters turned into funny chubby heroes. Now, you either get each and every one of them to keep your collection complete or spend more time choosing some of the very best sets. LEGO Star Wars BrickHeadz 41619 Darth Vader and 41620 Stormtrooper totally deserve a closer look. They are not just a couple of iconic movie characters, but also a very solid addition to any BrichHeadz collection.

LEGO Wizarding World of Harry Potter 75954 Hogwarts Great Hall [Review]

Absent as a theme for seven years, LEGO has returned to the magical land of Harry Potter. This time around the theme is titled Wizarding World, since it encompasses both the Harry Potter books/films and the current Fantastic Beasts films. Fittingly, the largest set of the new wave is the setting for so many of Harry’s adventures, Hogwarts. Since LEGO began producing Harry Potter sets way back in 2001, there have been at least four distinct versions of the iconic wizarding school Hogwarts, plus others set in and around the castle grounds. Each version has a slightly different twist, and this latest edition attempts to bring a hint of proper scale to the monolithic school, opting to forego recreating the whole castle and focusing on a single aspect in greater detail. 75954 Hogwarts Great Hall retails for $99.99 USD, includes 878 pieces, and is available now in the USA, and elsewhere Aug. 1.

New LEGO Harry Potter summer 2018 sets now available [News]

The official release date for the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter Sets was originally scheduled for August 1st, but LEGO has apparently moved the release date forward by one month for all the sets based on the Harry Potter books. Five new sets, including 75955 Hogwarts Express and 75954 Great Hall, along with three new Harry Potter themed BrickHeadz sets are now available from the LEGO Shop, both online and in stores. Although many of the sets are on backorder for shipping in two weeks, we still recommend purchasing them now to take advantage of the double VIP points promotion happening until July 7th. TBB Weekly Brick Report: LEGO news roundup for July 1, 2018 [News]

TBB NEWS & REVIEWS: This week we rounded out our review coverage of the Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom sets now that the movie is out, and took to the airwaves with a bit of brick.

TBB’s Iain Heath featured on Seattle NBC station – Our Builder in Residence Iain Heath showed Seattle what LEGO is all about, from hilarious recreations of memes like Grumpy Cat to more serious artistic works like his Homeless in Seattle faux Architecture set.
Review of LEGO Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom 75931 Dilophosaurus Outpost Attack – When the Dilophosaurus brings down the gate, you never know what might happen. We take a look at this set with a super cool and surprisingly accurate dino.
Review of LEGO Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom 75927 Stygimoloch Breakout – One of the few LEGO sets to feature a herbivorous dinosaur, we’re diving deep into this mini enclosure to see what it’s all about.

TBB LEGO SET NEWS: June has been a busy month for LEGO set announcements, and this last week most of all. Take scores of magicians and a giant robot, add in a handful of superheroes, and the rest of the year is shaping up to be quite eventful.

41626 Groot and Rocket BrickHeadz from Avengers: Infinity War revealed – With the addition of these two, we’re only missing Drax from the original Guardians of the Galaxy lineup in BrickHeadz form.
DC Super Heroes 76117 Batman Mech vs. Poison Ivy Mech revealed – Batman has really suited up in this new set which has him and the Flash facing off against Poison Ivy and Firefly.
Wizarding World of Harry Potter collectible minifigures series revealed – Featuring 22 highly detailed minifigures from both Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts, this new series is sure to be a hot item for fans.
LEGO Ideas 21311 Voltron: Defender of the Universe set revealed – LEGO’s biggest Ideas set to date is the new ultra robot Voltron, who wields a sword and shield and can actually split into the five lions.

TBB’s Iain Heath featured on Seattle NBC station’s New Day Northwest [News]

The Brothers Brick doesn’t shy away from tackling difficult issues with the LEGO creations we feature, as “Builder-in-Residence” Iain Heath demonstrated recently with his “Homeless in Seattle” model of the Seattle skyline with the ground covered by tents pitched by people forced into homelessness by the housing crisis. Iain’s model struck a chord with the local community, and he was invited to showcase his model and discuss the issue on several TV shows, including the New Day Northwest program from NBC affiliate KING 5.

The segment is now online, and you can watch Iain discuss the LEGO hobby, several of his most iconic creations from over the years, and chat with host Margaret Larson about what TBB is all about.

LEGO Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom 75931 Dilophosaurus Outpost Attack [Review]

We conclude our reviews of the current wave of LEGO sets from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom with 75931 Dilophosaurus Outpost Attack, which retails for $39.99 in the US ($49.99 in Canada | £44.99 in the UK).

The set includes 289 LEGO pieces, 3 minifigures, and the titular dinosaur plus a baby raptor. Like 75927 Stygimoloch Breakout, the set depicts a holding pen with an attached observation post, but the two sets are very different. Let’s take a closer look.

LEGO Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom 75927 Stygimoloch Breakout [Review]

Last weekend, the latest Jurassic movie opened to a respectable $148 million, albeit to fairly mixed reviews. Our reviews of the latest LEGO set tie-ins have also been rather mixed, but there are still some gems worth taking a closer look at. 75927 Stygimoloch Breakout is one of the smaller playsets, with only one dinosaur and two minifigures, built from 222 pieces. The set retails for $29.99 in the US ($39.99 in Canada | £34.99 in the UK).

At first glance, the set is easy to dismiss as a generic holding pen with a small laboratory and observation area, but the set has a bit more going for it. Let’s take a closer look.

Giant 2,300-piece LEGO Ideas 21311 Voltron: Defender of the Universe set revealed [News]

First announced as a forthcoming set nearly a year ago, LEGO is finally taking the wraps off its newest crowd-sourced kit, 21311 Voltron. Based on both the iconic 1980s animated television show of the same name and its subsequent modern-day reboot by DreamWorks, the set will feature five robotic lions who can combine into the super robot Voltron. With 2,321 pieces, the massive mech will be the largest Ideas set to date, easily outpacing the Old Fishing Store and NASA Apollo Saturn V. The set will be on sale briefly at San Diego Comic-Con next month, then will be available to LEGO VIP members beginning July 23, before being widely available August 1. Voltron will retail for $179.99 USD.

New LEGO Wizarding World of Harry Potter collectible minifigures series revealed [News]

The ever-popular Collectible Minifigures are back, and this time they’re headed for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Announced today, LEGO’s newest line adds 22 characters from Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, joining BrickHeadz like Harry and Hedwig and traditional sets like the Quidditch Match. Although many of the characters have appeared in previous sets, each character features an all-new design with detailed printing, making the familiar wizards and witches look better than ever before. As with previous series, 71022 Wizarding World of Harry Potter Minifigures Series will come in blind bags for $3.99 each. They’ll be available August 1.
