If you’re browsing this page, you might want to consider narrowing what you’re looking for by checking out categories like “Space” and “Castle.” We’re sure there’s something here that’ll fascinate and amaze you.

LEGO reveals enormous Ultimate Batmobile set coming in June [News]

The LEGO Batman Movie opens today and we enjoyed it, though not without a few reservations (read our review). LEGO is naturally pulling out all the stops to advertise the film, and that includes giving away free Batman minifigures and now, revealing a brand new set. Today we get our first look at 70917 The Ultimate Batmobile, which is a huge vehicle that splits into four smaller vehicles: the Batmobile, Batwing, Bat-Tank, and Batcycle.

The Ultimate Batmobile will be available June 1 for $129.99 USD. It also includes a light-up Batsignal, and Batman, Robin, Batgirl, Polka-Dot Man on a flying disc, Alfred Pennyworth (in Batsuit), the Wicked Witch of the West, and two Flying Monkeys. We didn’t spot this vehicle in the movie, but let us know in the comments if you do!

Check out the rest of the summer wave of The LEGO Batman Movie sets we announced previously!

Fiery red LEGO Ferrari Testarossa straight out of 1984

Back in the 80’s as a teenager in Japan, one of the biggest doses of American pop culture I got was Miami Vice. I’m not sure Ryan Link — whose LEGO mosaics of Ferraris we featured last year — whether Don Johnson’s car was Ryan’s inspiration for this sleek, angular Ferrari Testarossa, but it’s certainly a spectacular LEGO rendition of an iconic supercar.

LEGO Darksaber is ready to serve the sole leader of Mandalore

Those of us who attended a LEGO club meeting here in Seattle this past weekend got to see Taylor Walker wield his enormous LEGO Darksaber inspired by Sabine Wren’s new weapon in Star Wars Rebels. Despite the brick-thin blade, the life-size weapon is incredibly sturdy, reinforced by subtly integrated Technic beams in the blade’s black core.

The Darksaber

While the blade and its sturdiness are certainly impressive, the handle has a great design, with geometric striping, an angled hilt, and small gold details.

Ghostly X-wing & TIE Fighter haunt us from a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

Alternate X-wings and TIE Fighters certainly aren’t unusual among custom LEGO Star Wars creations, but this pair of starfighters by Christian Lintan looks like it could have been built from the all-white LEGO Architecture Studio set, though of course many of the parts don’t come in that set. Despite the parts limitations, Christian has achieved great shaping, particularly on the X-wing — the sides of the nose, the engines, and even the flash suppressors on the S-foil laser cannons are all unique design solutions, not just a recolor of an official set.

Ghosts Of Galaxy Past

Christian builds almost exclusively in white, and while that might sound boring on paper, I was mesmerized by his photostream on Flickr (and he also has an Instagram). Check it out!

Free LEGO Disco Batman & Tears of Batman minifigures from The LEGO Batman Movie [News]

The LEGO Batman Movie comes out today, and to celebrate LEGO is giving away two more ridiculous costumes for Batman. The set, 30607 Disco Batman/Tears of Batman is available free with the purchases $75 of more in LEGO stores and the LEGO Shop Online. The promo begins today, Feb. 10, and runs through Feb. 28 or while supplies last. LEGO is also giving away posters of various characters from The LEGO Batman Movie with orders.

Disco Batman includes an exclusive torso print, while the pearl gold Bat-cowl and flashy two-tone cape are only available otherwise in the huge Batcave Break-in set. The Tears of Batman minifigure will net you an exclusive red Bat-cowl and green cape. Of course, the torso is also exclusive.

Great art cannot exist without great suffering

This creation of a flayed crucified person by Leonid An is inspired by the eerie works of the Polish surrealist artist, Zdzisław Beksiński. The symbolism is strong in this image, but still leaves everything up to interpretation. Who is this? Does it matter who it is? What happened?

Krucyfiks

The lines and curves of rotting flesh and sinew are captured very well with the use of minifig whip pieces, horns and more. There is a nice balance of simplicity and complexity in the build, too.

I am the (LEGO) law!

The stern scowl and helmet of Judge Dredd is an instantly recognizable combination, and Grantmasters has captured it well in this flat build inspired by the portraits of Chris McVeigh. This build makes great use of the space with the background behind Dredd simulating the sprawling, dense city in the film. And the use of gold LEGO wings to simulate the pauldron is a master stroke. I am the law!

Sublime cafe racer

In the world of LEGO motorcycles, it can be difficult to create a model that stands out from the pack. André Pinto has managed to do it not only through a superb technical build, but also a striking colour scheme employing lime green as a dazzling highlight.

HARLEY DAVIDSON V-ROD CUSTOM

Make sure that you zoom in on this model to not miss any of the terrific details in the engine. A favourite part of mine here is the older black ladder elements André has used to give the distinctive slatted detail around the pistons.

If you want to fly far, fly alone

Dart Flyby by Jeremy Williams is a dream spaceship. It has neither huge laser barrels, nor a spacious cargo section, nor an annoying astromech. The best thing about this ship is that it has only one seat. Only you, a massive ion engine behind your back and the endless beauty of the universe before your eyes. Sounds good, doesn’t it?

Jeremy’s Neo-Classic Space fighters are way too good to choose just one, so you’d better check out his photostream and enjoy each of his builds.

LEGO BrickHeadz DC characters from The LEGO Batman Movie [Review]

We loved what we saw when we got our first look at LEGO’s new BrickHeadz theme, but how do they stack up in the brick? The LEGO BrickHeadz will be available to LEGO VIP-card holders in LEGO stores and the LEGO Shop Online beginning Feb. 15, and they’ll retail for $9.99 USD each.

LEGO BrickHeadz

We’ve got our hands on all 10 of the characters that LEGO has announced so far, and we’re keen to show you what we think. We’re starting off with a look at the four DC characters, all from The LEGO Batman Movie. (Read our review of the movie here.) Continue reading

The LEGO Batman Movie is a funny Batman movie built with bricks [Review]

The first words in my review of The LEGO Movie three years ago were “I’ll admit it: I had very low expectations for The LEGO Movie.” But as we’ve all discovered since then, everything was awesome! Nevertheless, I attended a press screening this evening of The LEGO Batman Movie with fairly moderate expectations, not expecting a miracle twice.

While I would be hard-pressed to call The LEGO Batman Movie miraculous, much of the movie does deliver on expectations set by its predecessor, from its constant stream of sight gags and totally unexpected cameos to the largely brick-built world that the minifigs inhabit.
