Unikitty show coming to Cartoon Network [News]

Following up on some leaked news from a month ago, Cartoon Network and Warner Brothers have now officially announced that The LEGO Movie’s Unikitty is getting her own animated TV show. Joining Unikitty at her castle in Cloud Cuckoo Land are her little brother and best friend Puppycorn (we originally guessed his name would be Unipuppy), her trusty bodyguard Hawkodile, and the resident scientist Dr. Fox. The show will explore Unikitty’s adventures making sure everyone is happy while trying not to lose her temper.

No specific release date has been announced yet, and it is still unknown whether there will be official LEGO sets based on this show, as we saw with the Mixels, Ninjago and Star Wars shows. And sad news for LEGO Movie purists: Alison Brie will not be voicing the titular character. But stay positive! That job will fall to veteran voice actor Tara Strong, best known for her work as Raven on Teen Titans Go! and Twilight Sparkle in My Little Pony.

Strong is no stranger to the LEGO universe, having voiced a plethora of characters in LEGO Dimensions including Harley Quinn and Gail from The LEGO Movie, as well as the upcoming but unreleased Raven and Bubbles characters.

From the press release, here is the complete description of the show:

As ruler of the kingdom, Unikitty has busy days full of royal responsibilities. Unikitty is most interested in making sure everyone is happy and ridding the kingdom of negativity, but don’t misunderstand her optimism – she is one kitty not to be crossed. While she may be full of boundless energy and creativity, Unikitty is a force to be reckoned with if anyone gets in the way of spreading her positive vibes, especially if anyone makes her little brother and best friend, Puppycorn, sad. Also living in the castle are Dr. Fox, the resident scientist, and Unikitty’s trusty bodyguard, Hawkodile. Through it all, Unikitty and her friends make sure that every day is the happiest and most creative ever.

The voice cast is led by Tara Strong (Teen Titans Go!) and Grey Griffin (Be Cool Scooby-Doo!) along with Kate Micucci (Be Cool Scooby-Doo!), Roger Craig Smith (Regular Show), Eric Bauza (The Adventures of Puss in Boots) and H. Michael Croner (Review).

The Lego Batman Movie and The Lego Movie producers Dan Lin, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Roy Lee, Jill Wilfert executive produce with Sam Register (Teen Titans Go). Aaron Horvath (Teen Titans Go!) is supervising producer. Edward Skudder (Dick Figures) and Lynn Wang (Star vs. Forces of Evil) serve as producers.

LEGO Ideas 21309 NASA Apollo Saturn V – you are go for launch! [Review]

The Saturn V moon rocket is a masterpiece of engineering and remains the largest rocket ever successfully launched. Between 1967 and 1973, thirteen rockets left earth, taking us to the moon and building Skylab, the United States’ first space station. So it’s fitting that LEGO Ideas 21309 NASA Apollo Saturn V is the largest Ideas set produced to date, clocking in at a massive 1,969 pieces in an homage to Apollo 11. When countdown ends and the rocket set launches on June 1, 2017, it will retail for $119.99. Included is the Saturn V rocket in three stages, the command and service module, lunar lander, and command module with floatation device.

LEGO typography contest – design a new typeface [News]

Our friends over at the LEGO elements and colours obsessed blog, New Elementary, are running a Typography Competition from now until 31 May, 2017.  To enter you just have to design a typeface for the phrase LEGO DNA with only one rule that is explained in detail below.

You can use whichever LEGO elements you like in your typeface design, but the only rule is that you must utilise at least one of the following new pieces pictured here. They are:

That’s it for constraints. Digital entries are not only welcome, but recommended given that at least one of the new parts listed must be included and you may not have many in your collection! The colours don’t matter, and you may use whichever you like, whether or not the pieces exist in those colours in current LEGO sets. The pieces in your design don’t even need to connect in reality – this task is more about design than modeling.

There will be three 1st prizes in this competition (and no other prizes). The three winners will each receive a package consisting of 50 of each of these new tiles, meaning there will be 250 LEGO elements per winner, courtesy of the LEGO Group. A magnificent prize!

Entries close at the end of 31 May, 2017 (in your local timezone).

To enter, head over to the competition post on New Elementary where an entry form awaits.

LEGO Nexo Knights 70349 Ruina’s Lock & Roller [Review]

70349 Ruina's Lock & Roller

If you’re in the market for a small LEGO set with fun colors and minifigures that look as equally at home in space as they do in a medieval castle, look no further than Ruina’s Lock & Roller [70349]. This set retails for $19.99 USD, but is currently on sale on Amazon for $15.99. It has 208 pieces, with the primary feature being a substantially sized vehicle called Ruina’s Lock & Roller (hence, the name of the set). The roller is essentially castle dungeon on wheels drawn by a GargoBike rather than a team of horses. Along with the gargoyle-inspired carriage, this set also includes three minifigures and two NEXO Power Shields (Gorilla Roar and Forbidden Power Wrecking Wrath) which are scannable and provide power-ups in the LEGO NEXO KNIGHTS game.
