Ceci n’est pas un armadillo

Tremah is at his best when building with Bionicle and Hero Factory parts. But this is what happens when such a top-class builder gets his hands on a handful of System pieces. He tries to persuade us that his latest build is not an armadillo, but we all know what is going on…

The more you study the picture, the clearer it becomes just how simple the model actually is. Tremah perfectly captures the shape of an armadillo and its peculiar armour shell. The tiny paws and cute round eyes turned out pretty nice as well.

For driving Miss Daisy?

Now that LEGO has released a series of Disney collectible minifigures, I predict we’ll soon be seeing them featured in a lot of fan LEGO builds inspired by scenes from Disney cartoons. To get the ball rolling, here’s a great version of Donald Duck’s trademark car by Per Martinson:

Check our the builder’s album to enjoy more angles and situations involving Donald and his unreliable conveyance. It really is a stellar little build and even if LEGO were ever put out an official version of this car, I really couldn’t imagine it beating this!

Birth of the robot kind

If you grew up watching the Terminator series, you are very likely to fear that the human kind will be wiped out by robots in the future. Devid VII probably wants to disturb us deeply so he made a small scene depicting the birth of an intelligent robot and this exact moment will be the end of us!

Devid cared to write a brief background story for his creation in which he names this dreadful robot as General DR-ONE who shall command rest of the drones in the universe. This robot design was utilized in a prior work of Devid along with another rebel robot delivering weaponry to take over humans so shame on them!

The workshop may look simple at the first sight but it includes a seemingly functional crane system, folding warehouse doors, a forklift, shelves, various machinery and a nice orange ladder along with some very busy people. If you pay attention to details, you will find many inspiring elements so go ahead and take a closer look!

Please stay off the freeway

The Arvo Brothers have struck again with another incredibly beautiful and photo-realistic model. This time, it’s a scooter inspired by the totally retro Vespa P200. The P200 was imported to the US in the late 70s and early 80s, a time when steep angles and blocky designs were common — making this an ideal subject for LEGO modeling. The taillight design chosen here is an exact match to the original ride, executed perfectly in brick. I really like the scale of this model, with larger parts used for broader strokes, leaving smaller parts to fill in the details. If you wish you could build like this, fret not: the builders have promised a PDF of instructions is forthcoming.

Both Captain America and Iron Man are on Team LEGO

If you haven’t seen Captain America: Civil War yet, you’re doing yourself a great injustice. Not only does it show Batman V Superman how to do a hero punch-up, but it manages to be the best ensemble movie Marvel has done so far.

But today we’re here to talk about Iron Man and Captain America making an appearance in the brick, thanks to the talented hands of Tyler Clites.

While I’ve never really taken to the CubeDude aesthetic (or, worse yet, the bastardizations that are Funko Pop figurines), I really like Tyler’s rendition of the characters. They’re enough on the chibi side to be cute without becoming bobble-headed messes.

Also notice the great use of the smaller ball joints (AKA Mixel joints) on the legs. Then pan upwards to see that the shoulders don’t use the same system. I think this build is also a great example of why the fan community likes more variations of small joints in type as well as colour.

This LEGO superhero will show you how it’s done

Moko has long distinguished himself as a world-class builder, but he still manages to create builds that surprise me for their elegance. His latest is a superhero named Anpanman, and while the sculpting of the supersuit is phenomenal, what really impresses is the incredible poseability. This superhero looks like he just stepped from the cover of an iconic comic book.

Giant 5ft-long LEGO Star Wars Imperial Star Destroyer “Tyrant” features incredible interior

LEGO builder Doomhandle wasn’t satisfied with LEGO’s official versions of the Imperial Star Destroyer — they just didn’t have enough detail, inside or out. Taking a cue from the official sets, though, he’s created a stellar model of the Imperial Star Destroyer Tyrant with a minifig-scale interior full of various scenes aboard a ship of the Imperial fleet.

Doomhandle tells us he spent over a year constructing it, and the final model is nearly 5 feet in length. It is significantly more accurate and detailed than LEGO’s official Ultimate Collector’s Series model, and it features a full hangar deck complete with TIE Interceptors, a Sentinel Class Imperial Shuttle, and a captured A-Wing. It also has a command deck, conference room, barracks, detention center, supply rooms, canteen, and more.

Many will enter, few will leave

Brazilian builder Gilcelio Chagas wanted to find a use for those seemingly useless Mixel faces. And while torture is no laughing matter, he saw the funny side and came up with this entire scene featuring a group of Medieval torture chamber workers. But don’t find any comfort in their mischievous appearance, they are eager to break your bones, rip out your stomach, chop up your liver and feed you to the rats!

Let this droid diagnose you

Marco Marozzi has always been a really creative builder, with very original shapes and great part usage in mind. So when I saw that he was participating in a build challenge that I have been promoting, the Mecha Racing League, I was more than excited. But his particular build — a take on a pit droid — just made my jaw drop.

The build has amazing greebling and great orange plating that really stands out and draws in your eye, as well as cool additional details like the diagnostic tablet. I also like that the mech rolls on small spheres, which is an amazing concept for great mobility. I mean, I can really picture a bunch of these guys ready to repair any racing mechas on a pit stop.

Modular is the new black

To say that Lu Sim is a master mecha builder is an understatement – his builds are the stuff of legends. But recently he has being trying to achieve an industrial look, and what better way to achieve this than by creating mechas that are modular, that with just a change of components can become different builds. And his reFX01 Type D is evidence of that:

This particular version of the reFX01 swaps the shoulders for something more protective and allows for the wielding of dual guns. There is a change of a colors as well, since it shows a very distinctive palette, that is segmented beautifully. It is truly amazing that with very few changes, he can achieve a different look from the previous mecha. As a reference, here are the original types A and B of the same reFX01, which we blogged previously.

Sometimes it’s OK to play with your food

Builder nobu_tary has made me want to eat some LEGO. I might choke during this post, but it will be worth it because this looks amazing and delicious, and is one heck of a build:

Look at the tasty details: the toppings are placed perfectly, just random enough to resemble the real mess of a pizza; the red bricks layered below the cheese make for a great sauce effect; the crust looks great with different shades of brown; and the dripping cheese was a great detail. But most amazingly he built this piece in the most dynamic pose a slice of pizza can have, when you have just picked it up. Now I’m craving for a slice of delicious cheesy goodness even more.

Doorway to LEGO Nexo-classic space

British builder Jeremy Williams is well-known for his Neo-Classic space LEGO creations. This spaceship interior has some ingenious parts use, enhanced by very skilled lighting and photography. The build was created for a ‘parts challenge’ over on parts-obsessed blog New Elementary. The door utilises a new Nexo Knights part, the 2×3 pentagonal tile, aka the shield tile. The railing at the top is also worth a closer look to see clever use of the Dementor stand (found exclusively in Harry Potter sets) as the vertical portion of the railing.

This is not a door to be squeezed through at the last minute, there could be a guillotine effect!
