We’ve always known that the LEGO minifigure is awesome, but who’d have guessed it was divinely created? Thanks to Ki Young Lee, who has reinterpreted into LEGO form Michelangelo’s painting The Creation of Adam, which graces the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, we can at last see how the minifigure came into existance.
I could make the argument that this qualifies as latte art. This LEGO latte by DOGOD Brick Design is simple, effective, and highly recognizable. The tan, dark tan and white do an excellent job standing in for steamed milk and foam. The cup is simple with nice curves, with a nice matching plate.
It reminds me of a nice, homey coffee place where they ask if your order is “for here, or to go” and if you choose to stay, you get a big mug.
Taking a little inspiration from the design of the 75101 First Order Special Forces TIE Fighter set, Rebel Builder gives us a nice LEGO rendition of a Mining Guild TIE fighter, as seen in the latest season of Star Wars Rebels. Definitely looks like a stylish ride for the more fashion conscious bad guy. Which is just as well since as baddies go, “Mining Guild” sounds about as menacing as “Trade Federation”!
Designing a starfighter is fairly easy. Designing an outstanding starfighter is, well… a bit harder. Finally we may have a universal recipe for that, courtesy of Cole Blaq. Take out your notepads and write down the ingredients:
– One half of a B-Wing base (choose a firm one, not wilted)
– Two X-wing engine modules (not too big)
– One slung-under TIE fighter cockpit (the juicier the better)
– If desired, one small Star Destroyer laser battery
– A pinch of creativity
Combine well, and freeze on Hoth for 60 minutes. Then serve cold. Sprinkle servings with a pinch of astro-droids.
Kevin Ryhal engages in a little Castle-building… Frank Castle, that is. For anyone who doesn’t know (and who’s been living under a rock and missed Daredevil Season 2) that’s the real name of the hardcase vigilante known as The Punisher.
The crimefighter’s signature suit and skull device are captured well here, but what makes the model for me is the posing and the stripped-back scenery. The image comes together like one of the classic covers from the Punisher: Warzone comic series, and coming from a serious John Romita Jnr fan, that’s high praise indeed. Best of all, I love that Kevin has perfectly rendered Frank’s broken nose…
Devid VII is getting married. And what better way to celebrate than to build a beautiful little model to commemorate the occasion? The expressions on the character’s faces are lovely, and the top hat and veil add enough detail to make clear this is a bride and bridegroom. Finish it all off with an irregular base, a smart heart shape, and some flowers and you’ve got a perfect LEGO tribute to love. Good luck Devid — I hope you guys will be as happy together as the characters in your scene.
Even though there are some spooky carrots in this year’s harvest, most of them fight on the light side of the force. Dvd introduces us to the terrible confrontation between the Vegetarian Republic (cute fluffy bunnies) and Carnivore Empire (even cuter puppies). Honestly, I don’t see any reason for the conflict – I can imagine both sides happily coexisting in any Friends set.
The meat TIE fighter is neat, but the carrot X-wing deserves special attention. The amount of vitamin A in its adorable carrot guns should be just right to feed any imperial trooper, while its sprawling stems are a brilliant engineering solution for better maneuvering ability. Don’t forget to check out the builder’s photo stream for more awesome creations and hopefully more stories about the vegetables far, far away.
With summer over, it’s time to embrace the change of seasons and let Halloween in. Chubbybots has clearly done so with this horribly creepy killer LEGO carrot who wishes to come after us all.
I love the shaping and expression. This thing has so much character. I mean, yes, it looks like it’s going to take revenge for not eating (or eating too many!) vegetables, but that’s okay.
Light and shadow can influence so much in a photo, and enhance the story you see. A great example is SHARPSPEED‘s interrogation room, featuring citizens of Gotham City. Even without a caption, the contrast in lighting of the inmate vs the shadows of security and the doctor at the other end of the room tell you about the power-play going on at that table. Makes you wonder what might happen next…
Skim, whole, vitamin D, almond, soy: milk is pretty much everywhere. Ever wondered how it gets there? Well, like everything else in this world, it travels by truck. Normally the trucks are full of jugs, bottles or cartons. But sometimes a tanker of milk is the most efficient means of transport.
Although this LEGO tanker truck by MacSergey doesn’t have any clever custom logos on the side, its color is a dead giveaway to the contents. As is the name, Молоковоз, which is Russian for “milk truck.”
There are sweet details and clever construction techniques all over this model, but the best are definitely on the back. An access panel hides the milk-pumping controls, and there’s a nifty ladder for accessing the top of the rig. Check out the gallery for more photos.
The new LEGO Ideas 21037 Caterham Seven set was announced last week to much fanfare in the UK, but clearly has got fans all over the world excited too, as evidenced by this minifig scale version by Taiwanese builder RGB900.
The hit video game Overwatch continues to generate a steady stream of great LEGO builds from fans of the game, and this large version of the peanut-butter-loving tank hero Winston by Paul Lee is one of my favorites so far.
