Though not the sort of achievement that makes me proud to be human, the Focke-Achgelis Fa 223 “Drache” (Dragon) was the first helicopter to enter production, though Nazi Germany was only able to manufacture about 20 during World War II. I had no idea it even existed until Aleksander Stein built one from LEGO.

Is there a contest going on that I’m not aware of? The recent crop of sky-fi fighters makes it seem as though dieselpulp may be replacing steampunk as the fan-created theme du jour.
Anyway, I couldn’t blog the more recent fighters by other builders and pass up my favorite, the P-79 Stratofighter “Steel Wind” by Jon Hall:
The judicious sticker usage and gorgeous presentation truly enhance what would be an awesome fighter regardless.
While we wait for Brandon Bannerman (Catsy) to finish his Halo ringworld, he fills our quotient of micro video game locales with the Citadel from Mass Effect.
Of the presentation, Brandon says, “Shot in low light with two blacklights to make the trans-neon-orange elements fluoresce.” Nice.

Fredo Houben (Fredoichi) seems to be taking a break from the tiny mecha we love so much to build a series of sky-fi fighters, which we also love.

Iain Heath knows what I like. Hayao Miyazaki is my favorite director, and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind is easily my favorite animated movie — more so because I love the manga version that Miyazaki continued writing and drawing for ten years after the movie was released. Naturally, I prefer it in the original Japanese.
I’m sure you won’t begrudge me, dear readers, taking this opportunity to remind everyone that this is precisely the sort of wonderful LEGO model we’re looking for as part of the Big in Japan display at BrickCon.
EJ Nichols (Gold_2) has combined the sky-fi aesthetic with the Vic Viper form, and the result is rather awesome.
(Coincidentally, the XP-55 Ascender was a World War II prototype that would fit right in to the fantastic world of sky-fi.)
Jonathan (legomocs) finished his T-rex skeleton and it is beautiful. The challenge of tacking such a complex organic shape is formidable, but Jonathan pulled it off. This is a very respectable build.
It’s hard to believe that the last episode of Lost airs tonight. Unlike 24 (which my wife and I finally gave up watching earlier this season), I’ll really miss J.J. Abrams’ odd creation.
Ryan Wood (lights) commemorates the end of six great seasons with a couple of odd creations of his own — CubeDude Hurley and John Locke.
Hurley sports his usual curly locks, while John Locke has an orange peel in his mouth.
Well, at least we still have Fringe, and Super 8 comes out next year (along with a possible Cloverfield sequel).
I’ve been enjoying multiplayer gameplay in Halo: Reach for some time now. I just can’t get enough of the jetpack, and my enjoyment is enhanced by the fact that I’m not quite as terrible a player as I am in Halo 3.
While I’ve been busy trying not to get beat down too frequently, Shawn Snyder has been building this awesome Spartan.

The Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi looks impressive and a fine work of architecture that would be based on something a real landmark, but little would you guess that Tony Sava‘s amazing LEGO cathedral is actually fictional, based on St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City and Chartres Cathedral in France.
If one is not impressed enough, what you see on the outside walls simply scratches the surface of what’s inside. Tony designed and built a nave to fit a full congregation for a proper wedding ceremony or weekly mass.
Built intricately with stained-glass windows that are perfect for ambient lighting to flow through, it embraces the very same atmosphere of stepping into an embodiment of a holy sanctuary.
The cathedral is full of detailing that will make your eyes wander in awe, such as a piped organ to fill the halls with heavenly music.
A red-carpeted aisle and a pulpit and accessories like the floor candle holders add to the detailing.
Building with such details is not without its toil. From concept to completion took about 5 months with serious architectural and blueprint planning with layouts and dimensions.
The finished work and time spent is definitely an architectural piece to appreciate and be in awe of.
I just watched Iron Man 2 this weekend, and I’m happy to see that Peter C. has captured the awesomeness of Iron Man in an action figure sized build. The head is a custom Lego-compatible piece from Hazel’s Amazing Armory, the core is a Clickits icon.
