LEGO Technic 42125 Ferrari 488 GTE “AF Corse #51” [Review]

Did you know that LEGO has been partnering with Ferrari for more than 15 years already? Over the years, the companies presented more than 50 building sets, and in 2021, the fruitful partnership continues with LEGO Technic 42125 Ferrari 488 GTE “AF Corse #51”. This is the third appearance of the iconic 488 GTE in a LEGO product; in 2018, 75886 Ferrari 488 GT3 Scuderia Corsa featuring a minifigure of Danish race car driver Christina Nielsen and 75889 Ferrari Ultimate Garage came with nearly identical mini-copies of the car. The new Technic model, although still being a red Ferrari covered in a ton of stickers, has very little in common with the Speed Champions sets since it consists of 1,677 pieces and is almost half a meter long. The set will be available from January 1, 2021 for US $169.99 | CAN $229.99.

It’s called dragon fashion, look it up

Among all the real and fictional creatures out there, dragons have got to be the most charismatic. And when you deal with Asian dragons, those guys are always dressed to kill. For this season, Joss Woodyard puts his latest LEGO dragon build into some of the chicest outfits we’ve seen. Check out the gold and red foil pieces straight from 80012 Monkey King Warrior Mech set. A couple of those perfectly fits the build shaping the back of the creature. While the rest of the build is a well-thought-out composition of typical pieces, I love how the pattern on the dragon’s back completes its face creating a truly fierce image.

LEGO collaborates with Monster Jam for the new pull-back Technic sets [News]

Every year, the LEGO Technic line-up brings two new vehicles with a pull-back play function. For 2021, LEGO collaborates with Monster Jam to reveal a couple of building models based on real trucks. 42118 Monster Jam Grave Digger and 42119 Monster Jan Max-D copy the real truck’s design including massive wheels and iconic liveries. Both sets will be available starting January 1, 2021, for US $19.99 each.

LEGO 10276 Colosseum takes builders to Ancient Rome [Review]

Recently, LEGO has been licensing numerous franchises and brands, from auto manufacturers to movies and cartoons. However, none of those collaborations is strong enough to result in the biggest LEGO product ever released. The truth is, LEGO is at its best when “licensing” Italian history and culture. And it’s not surprising: there are so many perfect things created by Italians, and they look even better when rendered with danish bricks. After numerous Ferrari cars, the recent 10271 Fiat 500, and even 21026 Venice from Architecture theme, here comes the largest LEGO set released so far, 10276 Colosseum. Consisting of 9,036 pieces, it is almost 1,500 pieces bigger than the previous record-holder, Star Wars 75192 UCS Millennium Falcon. The new set is available starting today, for US $549.99 | CAN $649.99 | UK £449.99, which is, in the US, $250 less than the original 75192 Millennium Falcon price tag. LEGO Technic reveals new 42123 McLaren Senna GTR with 830 pieces [News]

The LEGO Group and McLaren Automotive continue their collaboration with yet another building set, 42123 McLaren Senna GTR. The new LEGO Technic model is an 830-piece replica of GTR modification of the world-famous hypercar in the blue and silver livery. The set will hit store shelves on January 1, 2021, with a price of US $49.99 | CAN $69.99 | UK £44.99 | EU €49.99 | AU $89.99.

Judging by the size of the model, the new 42123 McLaren Senna GTR is in the same category with 42109 App-Controlled Top Gear Rally Car . However, since the McLaren has no motors or smart hubs, functionally, it is similar to the last year’s best-seller 42093 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1.

LEGO reveals 10276 Colosseum; ancient Roman stadium will be biggest LEGO set ever [News]

Today, the LEGO Group redefines the idea of a truly massive building set once again. The new 10276 Colosseum is a huge copy of the ancient Roman stadium consisting of whopping 9,036 pieces. The previous record of 7,541 pieces set by Star Wars 75192 UCS Millennium Falcon was not that long ago thought to be an unbreakable achievement, but now it is about to go down. Despite being almost 1,500 pieces bigger than the Kessel runner, the Colosseum will retail for US $549.99 | CAN $649.99 | UK £449.99; in the US, this is $250 less than the original 75192 Millennium Falcon price tag. The set will be available starting November 27.

In this fast-changing world, certainty and peace can be so hard to find. However, the key to happiness is closer than one may think — ask a LEGO fan! Basic System bricks haven’t changed a bit over the last 60 years, so Emma Widmark takes a look into the future and predicts that even 40 years later, the answer to any worry will still look the same. It’s such a wholesome build; I can’t stop smiling, spying a ton of cute references. I’m sure you’ve recognized Ideas 21318 Treehouse on the table and 75957 The Knight Bus. But looking at that massive AT-AT on the top of the drawers, I will be very disappointed if they don’t release a UCS version by 2060!

LEGO reveals new Chinese New Year, Monkie Kid and DUPLO sets inspired by the Chinese culture [News]

Four new sets were announced today by LEGO at the 3rd China International Import Exhibition. Two of the new sets belong to the Chinese New Year theme, another one is the new Monkie Kid product, while the last one is a DUPLO set. According to the press release, all the new products were inspired by and celebrate classic Chinese culture and legends. Prices, piece count, and availability are yet to be announced.

80107 Spring Lantern Festival

80107 Spring Lantern Festival recreates the magical atmosphere of the festival which marks the end of the lunar new year celebrations. It features a brick-built Chinese garden with moon gates, pavilion, pond and bridge, a special ox lantern illuminated by a LEGO light brick as well as other must-have items during the festival like a rabbit lantern and a Tang Yuan rice ball.

These sneakers were built for... walking?

Being an adult fan of LEGO isn’t easy these days. Before, all you needed was to buy new sets and to visit local meet-ups. Today, it’s not only about organizing your collection and home displays but also about updating your wardrobe. However, it looks like builder mcvennie decided to build a pair of the latest Adidas ZX 8000 instead of spending a hefty sum chasing exclusive shoes. I’d say the LEGO version of the LEGO sneakers looks as good as the real ones. The colors are obviously spot on, and I particularly love the abundance of open studs; there’s no better way to give something a LEGO identity. Now, I wonder if I have enough bricks to build some in my size…

Bin there, done that

I can’t help borrowing the title for this post from the description of the build by Jonathan Elliott — it’s just as good as the truck itself. Not only is the model 6-stud-wide, but it is also a very accurate copy of Phoenix dustcart, which must be familiar to our readers from the UK.

The design of the rear part is particularly impressive. The loading mechanism turned out impressively neat and compact; the design is so clean, it makes the truck a perfect example of efficient design. I wonder what the truck would look like with a massive ad on its side, but I guess like it tidy better.

The beauty and the beasts

Last week, we took a look at Andreas Lenander‘s recent mech in the style of Maschinen Krieger. It turns out, at home, Andreas has a small hangar of these ghastly war machines. Last week’s Ma.K SAFS Raketenwerfer seems to be somewhat cute compared to the new massive two-legged Ma.K Strauß. Looking straight into the darkness of its spherical cockpit gives me shivers. Fortunately, the build is accompanied by a wonderful autumn tree. Bonus points for the striking contrast between black and yellow; this is how you create a great composition using colors.

In case your daily dose of terrifying war machines is at least two, here’s something more bizarre — a four-legged Ma.K Käfer. You know, I’m happy to see more pretty trees balancing out the mech’s gloominess.
