Rose in a dome for a loved one on Valentines day! [Instructions]

With the release of the LEGO Ideas 21313 Ship in a Bottle, many builders have taken a creative approach to using the transparent parts to create something unique. This build of a rose within a ‘glass dome’ is quite the exquisite and elegant idea executed by Chakhei Mok. He made sure to share a bit of his creative process – remember, Valentine’s Day is here, and if you’re behind time on your shopping list and have a Ship in a Bottle on hand, there’s still hope with elements that you have on hand to gift this gorgeous flower to your loved one!

An actual LEGO locomotive that distributed LEGO bricks

A Köf or Klienlokomotive literally means a “small locomotive”and, in the 1980s, LEGO utilised a yellow Köf at their German LEGO distribution center in Hohenweststedt. As a huge fan of the classics, builder Faust Chang has built a scaled replica model of the Hohenweststedt train, with details right down into the dashboard and engines. I’m sure for train fans and aficionados alike, it’s pretty cool to know that there’s a tiny train out there that once was run and operated by LEGO. Sadly in 2002 the Köf was sold by LEGO and was painted red by its new owners.

The day when Anakin turned into Darth Vader

There are a few epic scenes in the Star Wars prequels, and Darth Vader’s transformation is certainly one of them. LEGO has featured it twice, firstly back in 2005 in set 7251, and then more recent 75183; the later was a huge step up in terms of parts and playability. Then there’s the fan-made version by Korean builder Korion which has 1900 parts and a model I’d classify as UCS (Ultimate Collectors Series). The amount of detailing is breath-taking and features a transformation chamber that Palpatine would approve of.

This year’s 42078 Mack Anthem is the 5th largest LEGO Technic set released of all time, and it’s definitely a beauty. At the moment, it is on back order from the LEGO Shop online, so If you need to grab one (or two) they’re now available in stock on Amazon US for $179.99 (RRP). Easter Bunny Minifigure 5005249 [Review]

For a couple of years now, LEGO has been re-issuing some of the more popular minifigure characters as separate custom box sets. This began with the re-issue of the Chicken Suit Guy from Collectible Minifigure Series 9 and we later had the Gingerbread Man from Series 11 for Christmas. The most recent characters are a somewhat off-season Cave Man and Cave Woman similar to those from Series 1 and Series 5, respectively.

This year we get something a little different and unique altogether: 5005249 Easter Bunny Hut with a new character similar to the Bunny Suit Guy from Series 7. Make no mistake, the original Bunny Suit Guy is still one very hot collectible and sought after figure, so it’s quite interesting to see that this re-issue takes a different direction with new prints but keeping the same head accessory.

Midi-scale minifigures from a galaxy far far away

The classics are always a favourite of mine and they never go out of style. Star Wars fan Miro Dudas takes a pick of some of the famous characters from various scenes of the original trilogy to build medium scaled versions of their minifigure constructs. We’ve got the whole family together, and then some, from Lord Vader, to the twins Luke and Leia, and the dynamic duo Han and Chewie. My favourite of the lot is controversial scene of Han Solo and Greedo showdown, what’s yours?

Symbol of freedom for an open sourced world

It’s nice to see another Lego enthusiast acknowledging a bigger movement in the technology world. This penguin or referred to as Tux is the mascot for the Linux operating system. The image of a slightly fat penguin after having a fulfilling meal was the part of the inspiration by the ‘father’ of Linux, Linus Torvalds. Timofey Tkachev does a beautiful rendition of Tux with only 60 pieces. I really need one of this on my desktop at work!

Home is always where the heart is

The reason why some builds stand out more than others is that that we expect LEGO builds to be blockish and full of hard edges. This little build stands out because of its organic structure of plants and trees and a home that looks awkwardly quaint in its own way. The travelling minifigure that’s heading towards an adobe after a long and tired adventure reminds me of a longing for home after a trip. I have a feeling that builder Wesley Vaders is of similar mindset when building this, finally finding his way home after a long journey of ups and downs in his adventures in LEGO.

Tiny types of builds are the best [Instructions]

It was love at first type when I looked at this. Niklas Rosén built a nostalgic machine that’s almost extinct now with the advent of the new era of computers. You now get to build this right at home because it is just the type of build where you probably could find the parts for if you search hard enough in your stash of parts. And to make it fun, don’t stereotype the choice of colours to just black or red. Be adventurous and perhaps you’d want to make some modifications to your own prototype!

Hong Kong welcomes the Lunar New Year with a LEGO showcase event [News]

Hong Kong welcomes the Lunar Chinese New Year with their first LEGO event for 2018 at the New Town Plaza Shopping Mall, located in the town centre of Sha Tin.

The centre showpiece is a Chinese Lion Dance costume made of LEGO 150,000 bricks standing at over 5 ft. (1.6 meters tall) and over 6 ft. (2 meters) wide built by Andy Hung, LEGO Certified Professional (LCP) in the Greater China region and his team Legend Creative. Other builds include 2 Stone Guardian Dogs standing almost 3 ft tall and a ‘lucky mosaic’ 5 ft.x 4 ft. to welcome fortune for the Year of the Dog!

Oriental abode built to embrace luck, joy, and beauty

There’s always a splash of grandeur in detail with buildings from ages long ago. Perhaps inspired by a flashback of an oriental abode, this build by Jennifer Lee has transported us to ancient times. The home is adorned and detailed with red and gold. Red, in Chinese culture, is a symbol of good luck, joy, and happiness, while yellow or gold, in this case, is considered the most beautiful and prestigious colour.

Tiny T-47 snowspeeders that pack a punch! [Instructions]

I love me a good micro build, especially from the Star Wars franchise. This microscale T-47 speeder is one build that seems like it was transformed by a magical miniaturisation ray-gun that hit the 75144 UCS Snowspeeder. This makes me feel like building a bunch of these just to take down an AT-AT. Well, wait no more, because here are the engineering plans graciously shared by Rebel leader Jme Wheeler.
