Deck the halls with boughs of holly

If this delightful Christmasy offering is anything to go by, the Holiday Season in Nick Sweetman‘s household looks like a lot of fun or a lot of trouble. Dad has help risking life and limb hanging decorations around the fireplace. Mom sorts through the upturned box of trinkets while getting frustrated with the family dog. Little Timmy with the awesome Blacktron T-Shirt battles the cats to prevent them from demolishing the precariously balanced tree. And all the while, Tiffany seems more interested in her personal recreation time with her gadgets. Reminds me of my house growing up – nothing like decorating the house to get into the Christmas spirit. Let’s hope it’s a safe one!

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step

Sebastian Bachórzewski has clearly got big plans for Professor Dick von Brick’s next big adventure. Letters, maps and charts litter the Professor’s finely crafted desk. His treasures, keepsakes and plenty of books adorn the ornate bookshelves and back wall. Von Brick’s beautiful office looks like something from the beginning of an adventure film before our hero heads off on his intriguing journey filled with excitement, peril and adventure.

A handy piece of LEGO building

This sinister LEGO creation by timofey_tkachev is simply titled “Arms”, but I’m going to read it as an artistic commentary piece on how we’re all up to our elbows in blood and oil because we use ABS-based building bricks. Regardless of the motivation behind it, this is a cracking bit of LEGO building and a nice departure from the norm. It’s got excellent “posing” and shows particularly good use of the whip antennae pieces as long drips of paint/oil. Not to mention the decent photography of an all-black model — no mean feat (or hands, or whatever).

LEGO’s biggest modular yet: 10255 Assembly Square [Review]

2017 is a year of anniversaries for LEGO: it marks 40 years for Technic, and the 10th year for LEGO’s Modular Buildings. These highly detailed sets clock in at over 2,000 pieces and are most definitely fan favorites. In October, LEGO announced 10255 Assembly Square to celebrate the decennial anniversary of the line. LEGO sent us an early copy, so today we’re pleased to bring you a full hands-on review. It’s packed full of Easter eggs celebrating 10 years of these fantastic sets, and is the largest modular yet with 4,002 pieces. 10255 Assembly Square is available now on The LEGO Shop for $279.99 USD.

To know your enemy, you must become your enemy

I’m not sure who’s who in this duel by Grant Masters, let alone who is going to win. From the striking poses to the top knots in their hair, these expressionless faceless combatants belong in a Kurosawa film. Superb lighting and novel use of slopes give these graceful figures fighting stances a natural hanging clothing effect. Could this represent a battle between good and evil, the struggle between Yin and Yang, or the clash of East versus West? Who knows…

LEGO Flowers built using bananas, Bart Simpson’s head and a croak of green frogs

At first look, these flowers by Theo Guilia look rather nice. They are made from LEGO but nothing too strange or odd about their appearance from afar. The reality is that they are both made up of parts that would not be a first choice for creating a flower in the hands of most builders. The sunflower petals are bananas, the central portion of the sunflower is an afro hairpiece and the leaves are a mix of elf hats and green frogs. It sounds more like a recipe for witch’s brew than the parts to build a LEGO sunflower!

The second flower is a pretty blue cornflower. It uses Bart Simpson’s head as the central portion of the flower with the old-style plastic capes as petals. Those elf hats make another appearance as leaves to complete the flower. How strangely effective.

LEGO certainly brings out the creativity in people. I’ll never look at an elf hat the same way again…

LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures, Season One now available [News]

With Rogue One dominating the news, we wanted to highlight that LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures, Season One is now available on DVD and Blu-ray.

For those of you unfamiliar with the popular Disney XD show, The Freemaker Adventures is about a ragtag band of rebels tracking down a mythical lightsaber while the Empire goes about building the second Death Star brick by brick. In typical LEGO humor, expect to see cameos from all around the Star Wars universe, Palpatine’s gift shop, baby wampas, Buffy the Vampire Slayer meta-references, and a George Lucas lookalike named “The Maker” who’s gone into seclusion because he’s tired of space wars.

The DVD and Blu-ray sets are both available at Amazon on sale for around $25 — a steal for five hours of quality entertainment.

Fan builds incredible 35,000 piece LEGO Bioshock diorama celebrating all 3 games [Video]

Imagine Rigney has been combining his love of LEGO and retro-scifi video game Bioshock for years. The Brothers Brick first covered his impressive entrance to the underwater city of Rapture in 2011, and in 2014 Imagine’s breathtaking Bank of the Prophet from Bioshock Infinite amazed us with its stunningly huge songbird perched above the floating city.

Well, we weren’t the only ones who noticed Imagine’s incredible talent — Bioshock developers 2K Games have also been keenly following his brick-built fan art. Recently, 2K contacted Imagine and asked him to build a brick version of the cover art for their remastered edition of the Bioshock games, Bioshock: The Collection. Never one to shy away from a challenge, Imagine set to work, and has turned out this jaw-dropping collage of Bioshock imagery.

LEGO Star Wars Death Trooper helmet is fully wearable

Director Krennic’s Death Troopers are as intimidating as they look in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. This elite armor design comes to life in LEGO bricks with a wearable helmet constructed by YouTuber Spencer Hubert. Spencer utilizes techniques I used on my LEGO Halo helmet for the dome on top, and the results are instantly recognizable.
