Even if you’re not an Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo gamer yourself, and even if you’ve never played one of the many LEGO games, it’s hard not to appreciate the strange and stunning LEGO creations inspired by video games. Look for lots of LEGO models inspired by Halo, the Legend of Zelda, Gears of War, Pokemon, Final Fantasy, and more. Game on!

LEGO MINDSTORMS Donkey Kong by Dan Kressin

Dan Kressin has built an awesome recreation of Nintendo’s classic Donkey Kong game using the older LEGO MINDSTORMS RCX system:

The light sensor triggers Mario’s jump, while a troll stands in for Donkey Kong up at the top, throwing barrels down the ramp. Even the music is coming from the RCX! Read all about his fantastic creation on Dan Kressin’s Web site.

More virtual Final Fantasy minifigs from Morgan19

I just loved Jamie Spencer‘s recent Final Fantasy X-2 minifigs, created by combining his custom decal designs with scanned minifig photos in Photoshop.

Jamie has added another batch of Final Fantasy minifigs, from Final Fantasy XII and Final Fantasy Tactics A2, as well as a couple more from X-2.

Penelo from Final Fantasy Tactics A2, along with Rikku and Paine wearing their mascot dressphere outfits:

LEGO Batman gameplay footage and new screens from Kotaku & DESTRUCTOID[News]

I missed it initially, but Kotaku posted a fairly long video a couple weeks ago of gameplay footage from E3 of the forthcoming LEGO Batman video game. The video shows several scenes with playable characters that include Mr. Freeze, The Riddler, Catwoman, The Joker, Harley Quinn, and Poison Ivy.

More recently, DESTRUCTOID has a bunch of new screen shots that feature Man-Bat — who, I’ll be honest, I’d never heard of:

The game comes out September 1st, and rest assured that I’ll be taking some time out from my BrickCon prep to play the game and write a review.

Warhammer 40000 Titan by Kidthor

Kidthor (MOCPages) incorporates LEGO Castle elements into this big, chunky mech from the Warhammer 40K universe:

Custom Final Fantasy X-2 minifigs Photoshopped by morgan19

While working on custom decals for a trio of Final Fantasy X-2 minifigs, Jamie Spencer combined his decal designs in Photoshop with scans of the minifigs he’ll be putting them on, resulting in a rather cool effect:

Rikku, Yuna, and Payne never looked so good. I can’t wait for the finished minifigs.

LEGO Universe video from Gizmodo & Kotaku continues to tease

LEGO Universe remains fairly mysterious despite this video from Gizmodo and Kotaku (click through to view):

This is the first time we’ve seen any kind of real in-game footage, and the short video (and article) also provides some insights into how the game has been developed with input from LEGO fans.

(Nice to see LEGO Certified Professional Robin Sather in this, and I think I caught a glimpse of Tormod Askildsen too.)

Super LEGO Monkey Ball

Harrison (corran101) makes creative use of the LEGO Astronaut Bubble to relive the glory and hilarity of Super Monkey Ball the video game.

LEGO StarCraft Terran battlecruiser

Brickshelf user vana treats us to an amazingly designed and photographed UCS scale Terran battlecuiser from the game StarCraft. The traditional greebles on studs technique prevails once again, making the model extra detailed.

Team Fortress 2 Sentry gun in LEGO by Steve Barker

We were certainly impressed with Brendan Mauro’s Team Fortress 2 minifigs, but Steve Barker rightly says of his Sentry gun (also inspired by Team Fortress 2), “I think I am more proud of this MOC [my own creation] than any of my others so far.”

Justifiably so, Steve, justifiably so!

M274 Mongoose ATV from Halo by Vidgamer838

The flood of LEGO Halo creations is so overwhelming that I can make that pun without ever having played the game. Still, this Mongoose ATV and custom UNSC Marine by Vidgamer838 seemed too good to pass up:

Here’s the marine (custom torso decal, painted Rock Raiders helmet, and modified Ninjas armor for shoulder pauldrons) without the ATV, together with a bonus Jayne Cobb from Firefly and Serenity:

Microscale Wipeout race by Havoc

Inspired by the 1995 game Wipeout, Havoc‘s futuristic racing scene both excellent buildings with custom billboards and a set of six great racers:

Mammoth Tank from Command and Conquer III

Peter Morris presents a brick-built model of the Mammoth Mark III from Command and Conquer III. Using the harder to obtain larger technic treads, Peter manages to complete this impressively large model (see size comparison to a nomal sized minifig-scale tank). For those unfamiliar with Peter’s building style, the jagged shapes and small color partitions create a nice mélange of texures suitable for this model.
