LEGO planes, trains, and automobiles! Well, maybe not trains, since they don’t like to play with the other LEGO themes, but here you’ll find all our favorite cars, buses, boats, ships, helicopters, and anything else with an engine (and some without).

This Mini is BIG on awesome

Alex D (Flak-Magnet) has just posted an absolutely adorable little Mini Cooper rally car. He has based the model design on Richard J Brown’s original. I have had a 5-wide Mini on my “to-build” list for ages now…this makes me want to build one.

The shapes and curves are acheived perfectly at this small scale. And just look how cool that roof rack is. Props to both Richard & Alex!!!

FWOOOOOSH!!!

That is the sound I find myself making when I look at Nick Trotta’s (tardisblue) latest spacecraft. There really is so much to love about it. The cockpit design for one thing is a really refreshing and unique take. The colouring is fanastic with the vibrant blue and orange contrasting the greys of the mechanical sections (plus the little splashes of red). And lastly the way the fuselage wraps around the gigantic engine…just makes it look dangerous, as if the ship is simply holding on for dear life.

Be sure to check out the photo set, there is a lot of fantastic details packed into this lil’ swoosher.

Cheers to Carson for the heads up…flickr seemed to have graciously failed to put this one in my contacts feed :P

Truck Geniuses Hanging Out

Three of the best truck builders out there (Ingmar Spijkhoven, Dennis Bosman and Bricksonwheels) decided to meet. Here is how some of their models look brought together. You might have seen some of those before, but I guess never in this awesome combos.

Martini Racing VW Van by Malte Dorowski

It’s no surprise that Malte Dorowski’s most recent vehicles are gorgeous, but the added accessories and matching colors make this set of vehicles even more outstanding. The stunning Porsche 935 Malte built back in March, but he’s now paired it with a Volkswagon van, accessories, and a crew. This is an excellent use of the rarely seen Technic figures.

Soviet Missile Launcher Looks Ready to Strike

Flickr user D-Town Cracka has created this beautiful piece of technological terror, the 2K11 Krug, a Soviet-era surface-to-air missile launcher that’s still in use in Russia today. It’s chock full of excellent details and great piece usages, and it even has a deployed mode where the travel lock swings out of the way.

Beautifully tasteless

Henrik Hoexbroe calls this 50’s station wagon — “Wooden-style panels, two-tone body paint, white-wall tires, painted matching hubcaps, panoramic windscreen, partly covered rear wheels, huge metal bumpers, grotesque Texas-style longhorn ornament.” But Henrik’s LEGO rendition of this vehicular monstrosity is stunning. The color combinations and overall lines turn something ugly into a thing of beauty.

Sneaker Freaker Big Foot

Orion Pax (Alexander Jones) builds this impressive power functions truck for a Sneaker Freaker event in Zurich. He used the simple and effective chassis for monster trucks designed by mahjqa.

This is also Alex’s first model featured on his new website.

Scania R730 “The Dragon”

bricksonwheels is certainly known for his highly detailed LEGO model vehicles. But he turns up the awesomeness knob on his latest build.

Scania R730 ''The Dragon''

He said that he was inspired by the custom painted trucks often seen in Scandinavia. After some trial and error, he was able to take a high resolution wallpaper from Magic The Gathering and edit the colours in Photoshop to perfectly match the LEGO colour palette. I think he did a rather remarkable job because it looks as if this was actually airbrushed on the model!!

Polarcus Alima Oceanographic Vessel

Continuing on the nautical theme Lego Monster (Ed Diment), who is never one to shy away from a big project, has created this amazing Minifig scale vessel for Polarcus:

I marvel at the hull design that not only has a beautiful shape but also incorporates some pretty intricate lettering.

Taking a decent picture of something this big is a real challenge so please check out his photostream for more pictures of this creation (including work in progress images).

I was caught in the middle of the railroad track!

…oh wait, nevermind, that is ‘Thunderstruck‘…this is a ‘Thunderclap‘!?!?!

All jokes aside, Nathaniel Rehm-Daly (nate_daly) has built an absolutely stunning spacecraft out of the Star Wars Universe called a BT-7 Thunderclap. I am not familiar with the source at all, but was immediately able to recognize this as a Star Wars ship. Nate has perfectly captured that rough worn aesthetic that we all love.

Thunderclap

My favourite aspect of this build has to be the seemless integration of the wing folding mechanism.

Thunderclap

This thing totally wouldn’t have looked out place sitting in my toy box circa 1985 :D

Polish truck

Karwik again impresses us with his minifigure scaled vehicles. This time he builds one from his home country – Jeltcz 317D, from seventies, hauling a Polish Ocean Lines container on its trailer.

When awesome inspires more awesome...

I think one of the best things about the online LEGO fan community is the amount of inspiration we give each other. I can think of countless times where upon seeing a model by another builder, I was inspired to have a crack at something similar.

A perfect example of this is Chandler Parker’s 1/100 scale AH-64D Apache, which he posted last week. The amount of detail he achieved at such a small scale is quite frankly amazing.

1/100 scale AH-64D Apache (1)

Upon seeing Chandler’s Apache, Mike Yoder (Phat Mike el Fabricante) decided to build a few for himself. But then in typical Mike fashion he has since gone on a run of building and has now also made a squadron of A-10 Warthogs and some tanks to blast to smithereens.

Cat and Mouse

I am very much looking forward to where Chandler’s influence on Mike takes him next. I think he mentioned something about an AC-130 Spectre Gunship…which would make me a very happy boy :D

EDIT: Just realized I should also point out that Mike’s tanks were somewhat inspired by Pierre E Fieschi’s…this just keeps getting better and better!!
