Democracy requires a nation of participants

“Let us never forget that government is ourselves and not an alien power over us. The ultimate rulers of our democracy are not a President and senators and congressmen and government officials, but the voters of this country.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt

Please don't do it...

I wouldn’t dream of telling anyone else how to vote, let alone people who live in a different country to me. However, to any external observer (and to most of the Americans I’ve spoken to) the current Presidential election campaign has been singularly depressing in its negative tone. And that’s what prompted me to build this model.

Here’s hoping whoever wins out in tomorrow’s vote will at least attempt to heal some of the divisions that have opened up. Whatever happens, if you don’t vote, you can’t complain.

What if the Tim Burton Batmobile had a Batpod?

If you ever wondered what the Tim Burton era Batmobile would look like if it had a Batpod, well wonder no more as Vince_Toulouse has made it real. Or, erm, LEGO. While no mention is ever made that this “Dark Bike” is related to Batman or his vehicles, the inspiration is clearly there. Also clearly there: extremely slick lines and superb shaping.

Dark Bike

If you doubted me regarding the relation to the Tim Batmobile, check out the rear three quarter view. It looks a lot like the wings on the back of that version of the Caped Crusader’s car.

LEGO Marvel Superheroes 76060 Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum [Review]

It’s about a week till the general release of the latest Marvel superhero movie Doctor Strange. The plot of the movie still is a mystery, so the LEGO set 76060 Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum is a perfect chance to get a hint at what may unfold on the big screen. This medium-sized set was released in August and was marked as a limited offer both in the US and Canada. The set contains 358 pieces and 3 minifigures, for the price of $29.99.

Spider-Man distracts Venom from beautiful building

Thorsten Bonsch has nailed this scene from Marvel’s Ultimate Universe. Not long after 13 year old Miles Morales takes over as Spider-Man, he has one of his most important early fights with Venom. This build really grabbed my attention but it had nothing to do with the minifigures initially, or even the Venom creature… it was the fantastic building in the background. Thorsten’s brickwork is really special here, especially the window lintels and decorative roof. Lovely use of LEGO’s colour palate with dark orange, dark tan and black all coming together beautifully.

Spider-Man vs. Venom

Thorsten tells us that the Ultimate Universe Venom is much, much bigger than the 616 one, with no white spider symbol on his chest. I can’t say that I know a lot about Venom but I love his shaping and the ingenious use of white minifigure hands to create his sharp teeth.

Oh, you have a Hulk? That’s nice

As part of Creations for Charity 2016, builder Tim Lydy has created a rather worn out LEGO rendition of Thor’s brother Loki. This version of the character is sporting the much brighter attire of the character’s original comic book design and it looks great in brick form.

Loki

Loki’s extremely relaxed posture is thanks to him actually being constructed in several smaller sections that aren’t attached to each other, but to the chair instead. The other big trick here is the rug which I definitely thought was not LEGO, but apparently is. Tim states that it’s an official piece from Duplo set 5598 Dino Valley.

Love is in the air

Pete Strege reminds us of one of the most powerful things in this world — no, not about the Joker’s sense of humor, but about love. Because what could be more romantic than a breathtaking flight in a hot air balloon above Gotham city?

The balloon’s envelope is something of a masterpiece. Those are just regular plates and wedges, but the shape they form is simply perfect. In case you missed it, the black and red diamonds are an extremely smart combination of LEGO parts, including the newest 2×2 wedges.

Superb LEGO rendition of the Batman: Arkham Asylum batmobile

Batman: Arkham Asylum is one of the best Batman games. While the Batmobile didn’t have a starring role in Arkham Knight, it did have a fantastic version of the famous car. Paying homage and giving us the best LEGO recreation of it so far is Eric Druon.

One thing to be noted here is the scale here. This model is (by my count) fourteen studs wide. While it may not seem to big from that metric alone, the Batmobile from 76045: Kryptonite Interception is twelve studs at its widest.

Holy chiseled abs, Batman!

Few do strong LEGO character creations as well as nobu_tary. Just check out MetabeeRei Ayanami and RX-77-2 Guncannon, all made by the same builder. But today’s build is none other than the caped crusader, which has been captured brilliantly despite a lack of facial features.

BATMAN

While the chunky brick build is obviously the best part about it, I think the cape (most likely from the LEGO Star Wars poseable action figure line) is worth a mention too. It probably doesn’t let the build glide through the air or block bullets, but it looks damn good.
