Toy Fair 2008 reveals late 2008 LEGO sets [News]

Toy Fair 2008 is approaching and there have been pictures of the late 2008 sets circulating on the web. I found Joe Meno with some of the first pictures of themes including Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Speed Racer, Bionicle, and Batman.

Gizmodo interviews RogueBantha

Trying to keep up on all the amazing creations LEGO builders post all over the Web is hard work. No, seriously! With our day-to-day focus on individual creations, it’s nice to take a step back and learn a little more about the people behind some of our favorite creations.

To that end, Gizmodo contributor Jesus Diaz interviews microscale builder Tim Goddard, who we all know as “RogueBantha.” It’s great to see something smaller than a six-foot spaceship get real respect outside the specialized world of the online LEGO fan community.

RogueBantha’s micro fanboy mathematics

Remember Adrian Florea’s beautiful Natai Ugly? It was a combination of the Naboo starfighter and TIE/d for the FBTB Uglies contest.

Joel Johnson builds the UCS Millenium Falcon in 3:38

Well, not really. Boing Boing Gadgets editor Joel Johnson created a time-lapse video of himself building the Ultimate Collector’s Millenium Falcon:

Joel wonders what to do with all that LEGO now that the Falcon is done. I vote for more ships of his own design. You’ve got some skills, dude!

All-Terrain Steam Transport by Kaitimar

The lightest speeder in the outer rim!

A while ago I mentioned the speeder Matt Forcum has been working on, and I’m pleased to report that he’s finished it:

The speeder is instantly recognizable, and yet the balloon gives it a unique steampunk twist. What strikes me most, though, is the way the driver is dressed. This thing can’t possibly go much faster than 10 miles per hour, and yet he’s all decked out in a mask and goggles! It’s that type of humor — whimsy, I guess — that makes for good steampunk.

Something steamy from Don Solo

Don Solo (Flickr) just calls his latest creation “thing,” but I call it cool. Reminiscent of a speeder bike or swoop, my favorite detail in this creation is Don’s use of two shovels on the front.

What set would you want for the 10th anniversary of LEGO Star Wars?

2009 will be the 10th anniversary of LEGO Star Wars. To celebrate this anniversary, LEGO is considering the release of a special 10th-anniversary set, and they want to know what you’d like. LEGO has asked the Ambassadors to pass along the following four questions:

What model do you recommend that LEGO Star Wars launches in October 2009 as celebration of LEGO Star Wars 10th anniversary?
Should it be a model in minifigure scale or a big display model?
Which key characters / minifigures should be included, if the model is minifigure scale?
What key functions should be included?

Please leave your answers as comments on this post, and I’ll pass them along to LEGO. (If you’ve already responded to this question elsewhere, please refrain from providing duplicate answers here.)

Steam Naboo Fighter

Mark Stafford presents a steampunk version of the Star Wars Naboo Fighter. Look closely and you can spot many interesting details, like a horned helm on the tip of the ship. I particularly like the monkey replacement of R2-D2.

One of my own. Not sure if I’ll enter this in the Steam Wars contest but I had a lot of fun making it. I hope it doesn’t need much description.
