LEGO Star Wars is one of the most popular LEGO themes of all time. Far beyond X-wings and TIE fighters, there’s a whole expanded universe of inspiration, and an army of LEGO fans ready to build whatever comes out of George Lucas’s head next.

LEGOLAND California gets Star Wars Miniland in March 2011 [News]

Home of LEGO Star Wars Days for the last several years, it’s only natural that LEGOLAND California should get a section of Miniland dedicated to Star Wars. That’s finally happening this March, as announced this morning. From Bricks to Bothans was there today covering the press event, and has all the details and photos, including the ever-awesome Mr. Gary McIntire (with Miniland tauntaun and Han Solo).

RC Clone Turbo Tank with lights and firing mechanisms

There’s much more to this Juggernaut than meets the eye. Max Yang (Artifex Creation) built this Turbo Tank with remote-controlled driving and steering, along with other RC mechanisms such as clip-fed guns and missiles. It’s even outfitted with custom-designed flashing lights. You can see all these features in the Youtube video below.

NinjaGo, LEGO Star Wars, and most 2011 LEGO sets now available [News]

Though this is for US & Canada only at the moment, nearly all of the first quarter 2011 LEGO sets are now available from the LEGO Shop online. As if that’s not enough of a temptation, you can still order in time for Christmas.

We here at The Brothers Brick are irrationally excited about what looks to be the silliest — and most awesome — of the 2011 themes. Fraukinder and mannkinder, I give you NinjaGo!

The premise appears to be that several brightly colored ninjas take on an army of undead in single combat using a technique called “spinjutsu”.

Seriously, how awesome is that? And don’t miss the ear-worm that is the NinjaGo theme song.

The 2011 LEGO City police sets feature a new dog, backpack, and crowbar.

And of course, the 2011 LEGO Star Wars sets are also now available — not least of which the ever-popular battle packs.

Though I have yet to see a single episode of The Clone Wars, I’m intrigued by this non-gray Bounty Hunter Assault Gunship:

Finally, 10217 Diagon Alley will be shipping on January 1st, and is currently available for pre-order:

Build your own Death Star ornament

With the Death Star ornament by Chris McVeigh (powerpig), you will rule the Christmas tree! Find out how to make your own on Chris’ blog.

Other ornaments by Chris are still available for purchase from Creations for Charity.

Classic X-wing

Flickr user marshal banana presents one of the best minifig-scale X-wings I have seen. None of the details seem forced; even the complex windshield design looks well-integrated into the ship. Check out more great Star Wars creations on the builder’s photostream.

Training grounds

ACPin‘s newest Star Wars diorama is a visually striking training arena for elite clone troopers. The difficulty of this build lies in incorporating the grid pattern on an uneven terrain, which the builder accomplished to good effect.

Thanks for the tip Christian!

Max Reebo and Harry Potter CubeDudes entertain the masses

Speaking of FBTB, their CubeDude Vignettes Contest is now complete, and has yielded some nice results.

Larry Lars captures Jabba the Hutt’s musical entertainers in his vignette:

Andy Grubb deservedly takes home the first place prize, though, with this awesome forced-perspective view of Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy pursuing the golden snitch in a game of Quidditch.

So, I guess this was inevitable...

…but it’s a great idea nonetheless. Joel Baker decided that the rare white Boba Fett needed a white Slave 1. So, unlike most people on the internet, he decided to do something about it, rather just whine about how Lego doesn’t cater their individual whims. Way to go, Joel. You’re the man!

Hammerhead cruiser from the Old Sith Wars

Steef de Prouw (mediocre) presents a lesser well-known ship from the Star Wars universe based on the Harbinger. The hammerhead shape is as distinctive as it is hard to build, featuring techniques such as half plate offsets to replicate the narrowing tips of the hammer shape. You can read more about this 122 stud long SHIP on MOCpages.
