LEGO Star Wars is one of the most popular LEGO themes of all time. Far beyond X-wings and TIE fighters, there’s a whole expanded universe of inspiration, and an army of LEGO fans ready to build whatever comes out of George Lucas’s head next.

Chibi-style Rogue One battle scene

Rogue One continues to inspire new Star Wars LEGO creations. Check out this fantastic beach battle scene, lifted from the Rogue One trailer and “chibified” by Boba-1980. The microscale vehicles are really good — I particularly like the versions of the U-Wing and the TIE Strike Fighter.

Aside from the good landscaping and figure posing, there’s a whole ton of action packed into a tight space in this diorama — justifying the builder’s choice to go with an unusual scale for the vehicles. Nice work.

Star Wars: Rogue One U-Wing in LEGO

So the first full-blown trailer for Rogue One has been out for all of a few hours, but that hasn’t stopped Vaionaut building a cool LEGO version of the new U-Wing ship which looks like it will be ferrying our intrepid heroes across the galaxy.

This sort of thing is why I’m getting pumped-up for Rogue One. I’m looking forward to seeing new ships and vehicles and characters and planets, all for the first time, yet all carrying that unmistakable whiff of Star Wars. However, we’re not featuring this model just because I’m excited — it’s a smart build in and of itself. It captures the lines and colors of this interesting new spaceship design, and features some nice details, particularly around the rear and the engines.

Imperial chamber scene from Star Wars Rogue One recreated in LEGO

With the movie’s release just a few months away and photos of Rogue One LEGO sets beginning to surface, it’s inevitable that we begin seeing the kind of shot-for-shot recreations of the trailer in LEGO that we saw before The Force Awakens. markus19840420 proves that there’s plenty of inspiration to be had from less than two minutes of footage with this faithful recreation of the mysterious hooded figure kneeling before what appears to be a bacta tank as Imperial Guards look on. The walls lean in claustrophobically, and Markus has even managed to include puffs of steam.

Here’s hoping Rogue One will inspire the kind of excellent LEGO Star Wars creations that The Force Awakens did, such as the hangar scene and Rey’s AT-AT home by the same builder.

First look at LEGO Star Wars Rogue One sets [News]

Star Wars: Rogue One hits theaters in just 4 months, and with it will come a whole new line of LEGO Star Wars sets. Thanks to the Italian and Spanish versions of Amazon, here’s your first look at eight of those sets, which are expected to be available Sept. 30. Click below to see all the sets! These aren’t Star Wars minifigures you’re looking for

…but these Star Wars figures just may be the coolest ones around. We covered Omar Ovalle‘s Endor Trooper last month, but Omar’s been busy since then converting lots of LEGO Technic figures into awesome Star Wars characters. The Technic figures, which LEGO produced from the late 80s to the early 2000s, are considerably larger than traditional minifigures and have a lot more poseability. The size also allows more accurate scaling with small characters, like Yoda and the Jawas, who both look quite good as minifigures next to the Technic figs. Boba Fett definitely takes the cake for the best looking figure though, as he blasts his way out of the Sarlacc pit.

2016 LEGO Advent Calendars: Star Wars, City and Friends revealed [News]

LEGO’s Advent Calendars are back for 2016, bringing 24 mini models each in Star Wars, City and Friends themes for you to build in the weeks before Christmas. This year you’ll find a snow-covered white Chewbacca and an Imperial snowman in the Star Wars Advent Calendar, Santa with the cutest Husky “reindeer” you’ve ever seen in the City Advent Calendar, and a cozy old-fashioned holiday party in the Friends Advent Calendar.

The Star Wars Advent Calendar will retail for $39.99 USD, while the City and Friends calendars will sell for $29.99 USD each. All three are now available on Amazon and the LEGO Shop Online.

The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant compared to the power of the Force

As an entry in the current MOC Olympics building contest, Boba-1980 recreated this memorable moment from Star wars: A New Hope, in which audiences were first introduced to the “force choke”. And while Admiral Motti’s lack of faith certainly was disturbing, I think Darth Vader’s attempt to kill a coworker during a business meeting could be considered marginally more disturbing (but totally relatable).

“No, no, no... THIS one goes THERE, THAT one goes THERE!”

Thomas Flament created this detail-packed 32×32 stud slice of life aboard the Millenium Falcon that perfectly captures the look, feel and clutter of the ship’s interior, as well as including a suitably greebly section of outer hull and even a mini-Falcon on top!

There’s a nice sense of depth here with both the circular corridor receding into the background and the below-deck maintenance area (with Chewy hard at work). The clever part usage to create the curved sofa is also a nice touch.

Incredibly accurate minifig-scale LEGO Star Wars X-Wing even lights up

The ever-popular LEGO Star Wars line continues to pump out models of everyone’s favorite Star Wars spaceships, and after 17 years most ships have seen multiple iterations. The iconic X-Wing has seen over a half-dozen iterations, including the two versions from Episode VII. And fans have always sought to one-up the official models — sometimes to spectacular success, such as Mike Psiaki’s beautiful version in 2011. However, there’s always room for new builders to try their hand at this venerable starfighter. Enter Maciej Szymański with this stunningly accurate model that even includes working lights. I think my favorite details on this model are the hockey masks used as a the flashback suppressors on the wing-mounted lasers, and the carefully curled hose for the pilot’s life support.

A rebellion built on hope

There have been a ton of incredible Star Wars-themed LEGO creations coming out of the IDS Moc Olympics and Paul Trach‘s Yavin IV Rebel Workshop is one of them! This little scene looks good enough to be a potential movie set from the upcoming Rouge One film. I’m not sure what these rebels are up to, but they certainly look busy. The overall muted color palette works quite nicely and the stone walls have a perfect combination of texture, clean lines, and angles.

So you wanna upgrade your podracer eh?

Usually a clutter of detail in a LEGO creation can be a bad thing, dragging the eye around the image and distracting attention from what should be the scene’s focus. However, Patrick B.‘s excellent recreation of Watto’s Workshop from The Phantom Menace takes surrounding clutter and turns it into the main event.

As well as some smart brick-built greebly things lying around, Patrick has also made use of individual LEGO elements with interesting textures. Okay, this might not be actual building as such, but the carefully-haphazard arrangement of these bricks adds nicely to the overall sense of detail and depth. And don’t miss the lovely touches like the use of textured grille bricks for a cross-hatched floor effect, and the conical equipment built of “cheesegrater wedges” standing towards the rear.
