The latest odd and awesome spaceship from Rob (dasnewten) is this unconventional “light fighter/reconnaissance type” vehicle.
As different and equally cool as they both are, this could almost be from the same space force as Joel Larsson’s Sleipnir.

Joel Larsson (ProfessorLarson) recently posted a new space ship. He calls it the Sleipnir. I don’t know what the name means, but I love the build.
He’s achieved some fantastic angles on this thing. I also absolutely love the use of crates for the guns. The sticker use is quite reserved, and quite excellent.
A big creation deserves a big name – that’s how 3LUG rolls. Of course, when I say 3LUG, I mean Nick Kappatos and myself. Nick and I started discussing a joint display at the end of BrickFair 2008. We spent most of the last year nailing down our layout and avoiding each other, then began construction in July. We started BrickFair 2009 sleep-deprived, nearly resulting in a fight club, but everybody kept their shirts on (for the most part) and ‘The Faded Giant’ was ready for action.
We were lucky enough to get help from our families while building this behemoth; our wives laid down copious amounts of brick. We also got lots of help from friends during setup – thanks to Adrian Drake, Carter Baldwin, Nick’s brother, Stunt Drivin’ Steve Witt, and others.
If the questions we were asked at BrickFair are any indication, you readers are no doubt wondering what the story is behind this dio. While we have a basic story in mind, 3LUG policy is to leave much of the story up to the imagination of the viewer. An alien ship has crash-landed in a park in Neo-Tokyo. Military and Police units are starting to respond, as members of the public react in various ways. Is the military more interested in the craft, or in the civilians who saw it? Why did the alien ship crash? Was it a pilot error? Shot down? No wings or landing gear? You decide.
Check out both my photos and Nick’s photos. I have more overall shots, and Nick has some nice angles and details.
Tim Goddard (roguebantha_1138) has put his new microfigures to work in his adorable Neon Classic Space project (geddit!). I just wish I could purchase these sets so I could have a play myself.
Dali Zheng has been hosting a Speeder Bike Contest with some really excellent entries so far. If you’d like to enter yourself, you have until the end of August.
Thomas Oechsner contributes a Neo-Classic Space speeder bike with appropriate greeblage.
What LEGO contest would be complete without a nostalgic Octan entry? This one’s by Mristoph Chonnaie.
Karf would be proud of the Bananabike by NIRDIAN.
Oh, I give up. There are too many cool little speeder bikes to pick just a few. Go look through the entries yourself.
I really do love the new Space Police III theme, from the wonderful alien minifigs to the subtle in-jokes that the designers incorporated throughout their sets.
Nevertheless, a running joke among LEGO fans is that the line is xenophobic and defames sentient non-human life forms.
Seeing District 9 last night (based on Alive in Joberg from 2005), reminded me of this great webcomic from Shortpacked! Click the preview pic below to read the full comic.
Of course, LEGO designer Mark Stafford has explained that “Space Police are only responsible for interspecies crime… Non criminal aliens are of course welcome to live and work in terran space.”
Sounds like a challenge to all you LEGO fans out there to build a creation that shows the new SPIII aliens in a more positive light.
Mark Anderson has a unique project going on, namely a series of Alphabet Spacecraft. Honestly, I never heard of anything like this. I’ve seen series of vignettes made in alphabetical order, but actually building the shape of the letter as a ship? That’s a new one to me and pretty dang awesome, I’m thinking.
He is up to ‘H’ right now…here’s hoping he finishes the series!
Adrian Drake has done an incredible job here. This ship is gorgeous. It’s over a 100 studs in length and almost entirely studless. I’m very impressed. Beautiful!
The massively, over-sized engines on this beauty are what caught my attention. But they aren’t the only noteworthy item. It’s sleek, the engines have just the right amount of detail, this thing is gorgeous. It’s by Blake Foster and it’s called “XS-SP33D Fireball”.
Though we’ve featured creations inspired by Crimso Giger before, we shockingly haven’t actually featured any of his creations. He recently started uploading new pictures and the improved photo quality is just making the colorful creativity pop. Below is the BLX-570, which he built almost 2 years ago.
I’ve seen a lot of great space stuff, but at the moment, these are my favorite. He has vehicles representing a variety of styles, cultures and factions, for a cool expanded universe. Though I found him on Flickr, (’cause that’s how I roll), it’s definitely worth checking out his MOCpage as well.
As well as all the other parts of Voltron. I always loved Voltron when I was a kid, and Mark Sandlin‘s rendition using a TeknoMeka frame is a fantastic representation. This model looks great, even if the show hasn’t stood up to the test of time.
And yes, this Voltron does divide up into the individual lions.
