The quote above is from Arrival and it refers to the linguistic complications that can arise when trying to communicate with someone who speaks an unknown language. I won’t spoil the film by trying to explain what is happening, but I will say that this simple LEGO scene by Simon Liu perfectly captures the overall tone and eerie feeling of the movie. Even the floor has the perfect texture!
Disney’s newest animated feature, Moana, is the story of a little girl from the Pacific Islands who encounters a demigod on her journey to save her people. The movie comes out this Wednesday, but we haven’t gotten a good official look at the LEGO sets accompanying it until now. There are two sets, each featuring Moana (voiced by Auli’i Cravalho) as a minidoll, and the larger set also features demigod Maui (voiced by Dwayne Johnson) as a large, Hulk-style figure. We’ll be bringing you an early hands-on review of both sets in a few weeks, before they’re due to hit stores.

It’s November, and that means that our pal Tommy Williamson over at BrickNerd is hosting his annual NERDvember building contest. This year the theme of the contest is Disney, so contestants are encouraged to come up with Disney-inspired versions of the iconic Nerdly character.

Youtube movie-spoofers/critics How It Should Have Ended have enlisted LEGO animators Brotherhood Workshop to create an amusing recap of all seven Harry Potter films in just 90 seconds, running Harry through all the various trials in record time. It’s perfect timing, as moviegoers prepare for today’s opening of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the first new film set in the Wizarding World since 2011 (spoilers: I saw it last night and loved it). The new Dimensions packs based on Fantastic Beasts are also available today, featuring Newt Scamander and Niffler in a Story Pack, and Tina Goldstein and the Swooping Evil in a Fun Pack.
Blocks magazine Issue 26 is already on the coffee tables of subscribers and goes on-sale today at all fine magazine emporiums. To celebrate the return to the wizarding world of Harry Potter as Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits cinema screens, Blocks indulges in a trip down memory lane to re-visit every LEGO version of Hogwarts Castle ever released – and combine them into one mega display. In the LEGO Book of Harry Potter, some of the finest LEGO fan builders around work their magic on representing each tale in a series of exclusive vignettes.
LEGO Dimensions producer Mark Warburton talks about bringing the new movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them into the gaming multiverse. In “Fantastic Beasts and How to Build Them”, Blocks presents another impressive selection of bespoke LEGO builds, inspired by the various creatures documented by Newt Scamander.

This UCS-scale Buzz Droid is ready to sabotage thanks to its creator Takamichi Irie. Once it catches on to your ship, there’s no escape from its whirling saw and disruptive claws, unless you have a clever R2 droid to zap it in the eye. The technique for the hemisphere shells is spot on. Check out the work-in-progress shots to see the breakdown of the build.
Pascal explores the depths of space with this awesome rendition of V.I.N.CENT. (Vital Information Necessary CENTralized.) from Disney’s The Black Hole. The Black Hole has not aged well, in my opinion, but V.I.N.CENT. has always been one of my favorite movie robots. Pascal has managed to capture his essence quite well. You can almost hear Roddy McDowell’s voice coming over the speakers. The expression of the eyes and studless build technique are perfect. One also has to love the presentation, using the same black hole graphic as in the movie.
After some tantalizing reveals at San Diego Comic Con and New York Comic Con earlier in the year, official images (including box art) have now emerged revealing most of the LEGO Batman Movie set lineup scheduled to hit shelves in 2017. We’ll relay exact information about pricing, availability, and the sets not already pictured here as it comes to us. These look like great sets that will complement what looks to be a promising movie!

I must admit Jurassic Park was one of the most impressive films of my childhood. Of course, it was because of dinosaurs. But even before the dinosaurs appeared on the screen, I fell in love with the grey and red Wrangler jeeps that the characters used to travel around the park. And now Silva Vasil invites us to see a prehistoric reptile in this jar-dropping copy of the iconic off-road vehicle.
What is a Catbus? Well, it’s a cat that’s a bus of course! This particular Catbus has been crafted by CK Tsang and is an excellent depiction of Catbus at this scale. Catbus is a character from the classic anime movie My Neighbor Totoro by legendary Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki. The wide grinning smile and bright ‘headlight’ eyes are perfectly captured in this build. Don’t worry about the lack of a door, as one of those windows will elongate should you want to climb aboard for a ride.
I hope you have kept February 2017 clear on your calendar. We got a new trailer today for The LEGO Batman Movie, and it does not disappoint. The LEGO Batman Movie stars Will Arnett as Batman, Ralph Fiennes as Alfred, and Michael Cera as Robin. You can catch it in theaters February 10, 2017.
In case you missed it, LEGO will be releasing sets along with the movie, many of which were revealed at New York Comicon.
[Update] LEGO has also announced two new LEGO Batman Movie sets this morning. They will be available in January.

For any minifigs on the run after stealing $40,000 from their boss, there is finally some good news! The members of Brickstons Group (Pepi Blas, Emiliano Martinez, Jose Luis de la Fuente, and Alfonso Abeger) have created a LEGO Bates Motel from Alfred Hitchcock’s iconic film Psycho and it is open for business. What a perfect place to lay low and avoid the police.
The builders based the design of the house off of the original drawings used in the film. And the Brickstons Group even built furniture for each motel room and the office. I wonder if there are any taxidermied birds in there? Of course, the recreated shower scene in black and white looks great. Check out even more photos of this great build on Flickr.
