This brick-built Final Fantasy character takes it to the “limit break.”

The Final Fantasy video game franchise has been going strong for over thirty years, but of its many incarnations, the 1997 Playstation release of Final Fantasy VII continues to hold a special place in my heart. TBB regular Moko has reignited my nostalgia with a beautiful rendering of the game’s protagonist, Cloud Strife.

What really makes this version of Cloud unique is Moko’s commitment to remaining faithful to the original in-game character design. Like his 32-bit counterpart, brick-built Cloud is a little blocky and rough around the edges but full of brilliant charm. I love that the figure is fully poseable, and Moko did an excellent job of capturing the character’s iconic golden, spiky hair. It would be great to see the game’s other characters recreated in this style.

Fiery Phoenix

This mesmerizing Phoenix is made entirely from transparent bricks, and was created by Moko as an entry in the Click Brick 2015 Winter Original Model Contest. Starting next month, LEGO stores all across Japan will be showcasing competition entries created by local builders. One of the interesting features of this contest is that every model has to fit within a 20 stud x 20 stud wide, 30cm high space. We’ll be keeping an eye out for pictures of the best entries, and featuring them right here.

Mighty morphin’ masked motorcyclist

Say hello to Kamen Rider, from the successful 70’s Japanese TV franchise of the same name. This build is the work of Japanese pop-culture aficionado Moko. If it looks strangely familiar, that may be because Kamen Rider was the inspiration for a certain 90’s American knock-off called the Power Rangers (which, confusingly, spawned a spin-off called Masked Rider that aped the original show).

I love this piece not only because of its perfectly proportioned stud-less design, but because it’s just the latest in a long line of explorations of the masked rider by this builder, going back as far as 2006. Though with this latest interpretation, I think it’s fair to say he’s finally nailed it!

Silver Blade Assassin

Bionicle sculptures seem organic in a way that System simply can’t mimic. Of course, this is because the Bionicle system of pieces was designed to create organic models, but it also means that in the hands of a skilled builder, it excels at rendering smoothly curving forms. This awesome Silver Blade figure by Moko is one such fine example.

Moko has the Midas Touch!

Moko must have depleted his entire stash of chromed LEGO elements to make this bling-ed out mecha. All I can say is, “Oooo, shiny!” As a side note, I have heard that chromed elements cost 20 times their non-chromed counter parts. Pricey!

Moko’s latest mecha is gorgeousness and gorgeousity made flesh, or at least plastic. Viddy this zammechat mecha (via Snoikle and Builder’s Block):

To do some real ultraviolence, what this beastie needs, my droogs, is a great big pooshka on its rooker. And nozhs for zoobies. Appy polly loggies for my strange chepooka today, O my brothers. (Need a hint? It’s orange. It’s mechanical. Get it?)

Moko’s FF Characters: Safer Sephiroth and Vivi

I thought Moko had finished his series of Final Fantasy VII characters, but apparently not! Recent updates include the final boss of the game, as well as one of my favorite characters from my favorite FF game, Final Fantasy IX.

Moko’s Cyborgs, Villains, Goblins, and Zombies

I like it when Moko gets on a minifig-building kick. From Final Fantasy characters (separate post coming up in a minute) to minifigs of his own design, Moko is a highly original builder.
