LEGO Brick Sketches 40535 Iron Man & 40536 Miles Morales [Review]

Brick Sketches are a relatively new LEGO theme that debuted in 2020, based on a popular series of builds by LEGO designer Chris McVeigh, from back when he was just a humble fan. Brick Sketches blend 3D sculpture and 2D art to create brick-built portraits of popular characters suitable for hanging on your wall. So far, LEGO has officially released Brick Sketches for only three of its IP licenses – Star Wars, Disney, and DC Comics. But Marvel joins in the fun this April 1st with the release of the 200-piece 40535 Iron Man US $16.99 | CAN $19.99 | UK £14.99 and the 214-piece 40536 Miles Morales US $16.99 | CAN $19.99 | UK £14.99. But will these sets draw you in? Or are they kind of sketchy?

LEGO Marvel Superheroes 76219 Spider-Man & Green Goblin Mech Battle [Review]

The greatest foes in comic history are always two sides of the same coin. Peter Parker (aka Spider-Man) is a scientifically minded young man; an underdog driven to use his powers to responsibly serve his city. Norman Osborn (aka The Green Goblin) is something of a scientist himself; a billionaire who only craves more power, even at the expense of anyone who gets in his way. These two have been engaged in a constant struggle on the comic book page since the early 60s. Now LEGO is bringing their battle to toy shelves once again, this time arming each of them with a giant mech suit. Mechs for these two might seem weird at first glance, but both characters regularly rely on tech like web shooters and goblin gliders. So maybe this upgrade isn’t that far-fetched. Besides, putting Marvel characters into giant mechs seems to be a formula that’s working for LEGO. But does the success of the formula repeat itself here? Let’s find out. 76219 Spider-Man & Green Goblin Mech Battle is a 296-piece set available April 1st for US $19.99 | CAN $24.99 | UK £17.99.

I can do this all day. Because I’m a robot.

As Disney continues to absorb every form of media, it will only be a matter of time before the House of Mouse releases a Star Wars/Marvel Comics crossover film. Not one to wait for the inevitable, builder Veynom has taken the first step with a pair of Battle Droids from the Star Wars universe that are truly Super Soldiers. There’s classic “Steve Roger Rogers” with a bright blue color scheme and vintage shield, and modern “Steve Roger Rogers” with an Avengers-era, dark-blue color scheme and shield from the 76168 Captain America Mech Armor. While the pun in the name here is just *chef’s kiss* perfect, I still want to see Veynom tackle the rest of the Avengers in a similar style. There were a lot of droids in the Clone Wars…I’m sure there are some other great matches out there. (At least give us a Super Battle Droid in green with purple pants.)

In the meantime, check out some other great Star Wars and Avengers builds in our archives!

Things are spiraling out of control for Spider-Man!

Lego_nuts has recreated this stunning scene from Spider-man: No Way Home. The world appears to spin as Spider-Man is chased by Dr Strange through a mirror dimension. The city has a great colour scheme, with hints of green and orange providing the city with a vibrant look. An interesting technique is featured on one of the buildings in the bottom left of the picture, where 1×1 plates have been used to represent window frames.

“Into the mirror dimension”

And how is the smooth curve of the city created? Train tracks! You can see the full build in the video below to learn more.

LEGO Marvel Superheroes Doctor Strange 76205 Gargantos Showdown [Review]

Judging from the trailers, it seems Doctor Strange is playing a big role in the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home (which premiered this past weekend and we’ll avoid spoiling here). And after that, the Sorcerer Supreme won’t have very much downtime as the second movie in his franchise, Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, will be hitting theaters early next year. There’s not a ton of information officially released about the plot of that movie so far and the trailer is a bit cryptic, but let’s see what we can deduce about it from taking a look at its tie-in LEGO set, 76205 Gargantos Showdown. This 264-piece set will be available January 1st for US $29.99 | CAN $39.99 | UK £24.99.

As the movie this set is based on hasn’t released yet, this article may contain very light spoilers.
