Nick Sweetman (MinifigNick) followed advice from his 9 year old son to use the tower roof piece from the Harry Potter sets as the head of a dragon. It just so happens that the roof tile texture mimics the dragon’s scales and the exposed studs are right at where the dragon’s eyes should be – a classic example of NPU!

Stone Cold Killer
Gorgon heads are traditionally pretty fantastic weapons for defeating mythological monsters, but they do have their drawbacks: namely, you’ve got to keep your eyes shut, so you’re never quite sure you’re pointed the right direction, as this lovely little vignette by workshysteve demonstrates.
Prehistoric Prowler
This fantastic dinosaur diorama by flickr user TMM seems a fitting model to blog, since I’m just about to go check out the new 3D release of Jurassic Park (can you believe it’s been 20 years?). I love the mottled reddish coloring on the fin that TMM has achieved just through simple plate stacking, and of course the shaping is spot on.
Computerized Crustaceans
Polish builder Jarek brings us this completely crazy and awesome trio of bio-mechanical exoskeletal creatures. He says he built them off-the-cuff as a break from another model, but you’d never be able to tell, since they’re packed with fantastic details and clever techniques.
Faintest sunlights flee / About his shadowy sides...
Behold, the Kraken awakes! Iain Heath (Ochre Jelly) debuted his “KR-KN Destroyer Destroyer” at SEALUG’s LEGO display at Emerald City Comicon last month, and I’ve been waiting impatiently for him to get it online. The official LEGO Star Wars 10221 Super Star Destroyer set is, frankly, a bit dull, so Iain has jazzed it up with a space monster of epic proportions.
Read Iain’s backstory on The Living Brick, and go see it in person at Tableau Software, home of Seattle’s next batch of IPO millionaires.
The Cheery Easter Rabbit
Happy Easter, folks. Here’s a cheery Easter Bunny for you, courtesy of flickr user Brickbucki. This is a great sculpture, though I can’t help but think the rabbit looks slightly crazed. But I guess that’s what comes from having to paint and hide millions of eggs.
Lego Starcraft Mutalisk
Ever since the mutalisk buff, in Starcraft 2 Heart of the Swarm, this Zerg flyer has been massively popular in games. It looks like Mike Nieves (retinence) got the message and made his own to join his Zerg swarm. You can see more photos on Imgur.
Snoop would be proud.
Alex Jones (Orion Pax) has got one lucky little puppy, for it has quite possibly the greatest dog house ever.
The house itself is very nicely designed, but it is clearly the accessories that kick up the cool factor.
Check out Alex’s website for more views.
Tama and Friends...An Explosion of Adorability
Schfio made them and they are too adorable for words.
Tama and Friends is Japanese Anime series that originally ran in 1994.
Blessed Bigchin
I don’t really know what to say about Karf’s latest creation…except that he wins the internet for making a LEGO dude with a purple moustache and translucent red boots.
The Perils of Planetary Exploration
Jon Blackford has made this fantastic diorama illustrating what might happen to an unfortunate Neo-Classic-Space landing party. He’s got a great style going on here with the limited colors and the nifty shaping of the rock platform.
An Ocean of Awesome: Finding Nemo in LEGO
Husband and wife team Sean and Steph Mayo are known for being among the craziest builders out there, churning out stunning models at an unbelievable pace. Their latest work, built for the on-going Iron Builder contest (where they’re up against stiff competition, even for them!) is a mind-blowing coral reef, all decked out in the wildest underwater colors and vibrant with sea-life. Many of LEGO’s lesser-known parts lend themselves well to creating the organic shapes of coral-dwelling creatures, and it’s amazing to see how life-like some of them can be (like the sea anemone Nemo is hiding in on the far left).
