BrickHeadz debuted in 2016 as a new way for LEGO fans to build and display their fandom and creativity. As of 2024, LEGO has released over 250 BrickHeadz characters, sold either individually or in groups. While most BrickHeadz are based on characters from pop culture, like Marvel comics, Disney films, or Lord of the Rings, LEGO also releases BrickHeadz tied to holidays, as well as a kit to make a BrickHeadz character of yourself! As all BrickHeadz share a common size and style, creating your own can be a fun way to share your love for a favorite character.

Simon and Lagann fit perfectly as BrickHeadz

It has become very popular among LEGO builders to create pop culture characters inspired by LEGO BrickHeadz. This particular pair by toothdominoes is from an anime called Gurren Lagann, which features humans living underground, teaming up with mechs to battle oppressors living on the surface. Simon and his mech Lagann stand ready to face the forces of evil.

And such a perfect fit!

Fun fact: The eyes on the mech were custom made by the creator.

The empire strikes back to the 1980s

The Empire Strikes Back was released back in 1980 and is still one of the most popular Star Wars films to date. Josephine Monterosso has captured the likeness of two of the main characters from the movie, Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, as BrickHeadz. Each character has some great little details to enjoy that are a step beyond the official Brickheadz style,  but there are no rules when it comes to building your own characters. Luke’s flak vest with its tubing is a lovely touch and, along with the helmet and visor, really makes this character recognisable.

Han Solo’s fur-lined hood works well with simply some studs on show to give texture. I love the use of a palisade brick to give the clinched-in appearance to his parka waist — it really adds some flair.

Build your own BrickHeadz Santa [Instructions]

Ever since LEGO first announced the BrickHeadz line, these super cute blocky models of some of our favorite pop-culture characters have inspired LEGO builders to make their own creations (including TBB’s own Iain Heath’s hilarious Rejectz). So now for your building pleasure is my own tribute to the LEGO BrickHeadz, Santa Claus. I’ve also created instructions for the jolly old fellow, so you can create your own!

2018 seasonal LEGO BrickHeadz revealed: 6 new original characters starting with 40270 Valentine’s Bee [News]

All official LEGO BrickHeadz sets until now have represented characters from movies and comic books, including Marvel, DC, Star Wars, and The LEGO Ninjago Movie. With the unveiling of 70270 Valentine’s Bee, LEGO is highlighting the potential of non-IP BrickHeadz (in other words, BrickHeadz not inspired by a licensed intellectual property like a movie or comic book).

The back of the box also reveals five more LEGO BrickHeadz seasonal characters for 2018. If you prefer to be surprised by seasonal sets, consider this a SPOILER warning. If not, hit the jump and check out the rest.

Shogun from the 16th century

This build of a seemingly cute warrior by John Cheng is so much more than it seems. Imagawa Yoshimoto was a feudal lord during the 16th century in Japan who was very good at not only battling but also at diplomacy and securing key alliances during his reign. His black steed and the accompanying base is quite a unique complement to the usual BrickHeadz builds that we’ve seen quite a lot of lately. Aside from being brick built, Pokémon Conquest fans may recognize him as a playable character.

Adding to the LEGO Star Wars BrickHeadz line, following Finn and Captain Phasma (and the limited-run Boba Fett & Han Solo in Carbonite), LEGO today officially unveiled a two-pack set that includes Rey and Kylo Ren.

41489 Rey & Kylo Ren

The 41489 Rey & Kylo Ren two-pack will go on sale on December 1st. LEGO’s tweet didn’t include pricing, but our guess is that the set will be consistent with other BrickHeadz prices and retail for around $20.

New York Comi-Con exclusive 41498 Boba Fett & Han Solo in Carbonite BrickHeadz [Review & Editorial]

Over the last few years, LEGO has released a number of limited-run sets and sold them at non-LEGO events like San Diego Comic-Con. Invariably, the sets reflect highly collectable subject matter like Star Wars and Marvel super heroes. We reviewed Detention Block Rescue (the set LEGO sold at Star Wars Celebration earlier this year), and we recently purchased the New York Comic-Con exclusive 41498 Boba Fett & Han Solo in Carbonite BrickHeadz on eBay for $105 so we could bring our readers another review of a set you may not be able to get yourselves.

New York Comic Con Exclusive Star Wars BrickHeadz

41498 Boba Fett & Han Solo in Carbonite includes 329 pieces, and while it was sold at the event for an already inflated $40, its original price during NYCC frankly doesn’t matter — it’s currently available ranging from $110 to $300 for Buy It Now listings on eBay and $112 to $145 for Amazon.com marketplace listings. This review, in addition to providing a vicarious build experience for those not privileged enough to attend NYCC or able to purchase the set on the secondary market, will discuss LEGO’s business practice of releasing limited-run products in ways that prevent most actual builders and LEGO fans from ever getting their hands on the set.

Confundo, Crucio, Deletrius!

First introduced by TBB’s very own Iain Heath, the Rejectz are back in magical style with these new figures by Mel Finelli. Everybody loves Rejectz because they’re the “ugdorable” alternative to Brickheadz. This special line-up just for Potterheads features Harry Pooper, Herwhynie, Ron Weeeweee and Dumbledaft.
