LEGO Rock Band game confirmed for Xbox 360, Wii, PlayStation 3, & DS; due holiday 2009 [News]

LEGO Rock Band logo Although LEGO Rock Band has been rumored since January, with a major leak earlier this month, the game was nothing more than speculation. A press release today, however, confirms that LEGO Rock Band is very real.

The console versions will be co-developed by TT Games and Harmonix, while the Nintendo DS version will be developed by TT Games, Harmonix, and Backbone — all for release during the 2009 holiday season.

Naturally, players will be able to customize their little plastic rock stars, as well as support staff like roadies, managers, and the ubiquitous entourage. Interpret “entourage” how you will, but I plan on making a bunch of minifig groupies that look like they staggered off of the Rock of Love bus.

The press release states that the game will feature “brilliant chart-topping songs and classic favorites suitable for younger audiences,” and goes on to list several:

Blur: “Song 2”
Carl Douglas: “Kung Fu Fighting”
Europe: “The Final Countdown”
Good Charlotte: “Boys and Girls”
Pink: “So What”

What, no Iron Maiden or Black Sabbath? Claims to suitability for “families, tweens and teens” makes me think we won’t see the same sort of set lists I love from Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, but I hope having TT Games involved will ensure the same level of excellence we’ve experienced in the LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Indiana Jones video games.

Halo Hornet shoots down enemy Banshees

Stephen Chao (obscurance) constructs an accurate model of the Hornet aircraft from Halo. As someone who enjoys the game, seeing one of these makes me want to take it to the skies and shoot down some enemy Banshees.

Jeweled Mosaic by Hill

This 3d mosiac by Douglas Hill is quite unusual. I keep staring at it and I like it more and more all the time. The whole is made of headlight bricks with jewels stuck in them, and then lit from the back. Wish I’d thought of it…

Prototype Attack Mech Alpha Zero

The Galactic Inquisition has been busy since the events on planet Cornucopia. Here’s a new mech prototype using technology reverse engineered from the captured alien vessel.

The design for this mech was partially inspired by this drawing. It’s my own interpretation, of course, but I really liked the bulky, overly armored feel from the drawing. The tan bulb on the right arm is intended to be a weapon reverse-engineered from the Emissary’s space ship.

LEGO Photo Room

Larry Lars has decided to show us all how he photographs his LEGO creations. He does so via our favorite means of communication, a LEGO creation.

We can see how he sets up his lights and camera on tripods. We also learn about his very clever technique of hanging backdrop paper from a hula hoop to provide a seamless curve.

Bluud

Cole Blaq hasn’t given much explanation for this space craft, but that doesn’t keep it from being cool.

Simply called “Bluud,” the ship combines various angled pieces into a cohesive and pleasing form. The antennae in front offer just enough detailing to keep it from being an undifferentiated block of dark blue.

28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes and 12 seconds
