Venice, 1486: an Assassin’s Creed II scene in LEGO

Assassin’s Creed II is a video game I consider a must-play, with its incredible interpretation of Renaissance-era Italy, fun and simple stealth gameplay, and Ezio Auditore being my favorite assassin in the series. Builders Jonas Kramm and Brick Vader met up and collaborated on one of the most incredible dioramas in LEGO I have seen — one that undoubtedly does justice to a great game. I spent plenty of time admiring just how much attention to detail these two builders have in their Venice scene, and my favorite details captured have to be the gameplay aspect of Assassin’s Creed brought to life. The facades look climbable, the black pole appears perfectly aligned for a swing into a double assassination on the guards, and of course a cart of hay that make a leap of faith from any height safe.

Even if one hasn’t played Assassin’s Creed II, one can still appreciate the iconic, beautifully constructed Venetian architecture and canals.

More LEGO Creator sets unveiled for 2017 [News]

We got our first look at 5 of 2017’s new Creator sets last week, and as we suspected, that wasn’t the full lineup. Here are two more Creator set sure to delight fans looking for something more than vehicles.

Gorgeous fan-built LEGO Technic Porsche 919, the 2015 Le Mans winner

Manuel Nascimento built this incredible LEGO Technic Porsche 919 after watching the real-life car win the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2015. Not content to simply recreate the stunning shape out of LEGO, Manuel also decorated his car like the real one, saying, “I had too much fun decorating the car but at the same time I also had a lot of work because all stickers were hand made.” Check out more of this beautiful racecar below, including the working functions.

Built to protect and serve all through the night

Djordje is known for some really incredible LEGO figures and this night-watch Mech is no disappointment. Named Regulus after one of the brightest lights in the night sky and the brightest star in Leo, this mech stands on his own. The crisp color scheme gives the feel of a professional security detail, while the sturdy construction, over-sized revolver and no-nonsense stance let you know that this bot is up for anything. Cross him at your own risk!

In space, no-one can hear your siren

Hot on the heels of depicting how a modern Classic Space theme might look, Don Wilson is at it once more, this time re-imagining LEGO’s Space Police line. Once again, he’s using the Vic Viper spaceship standard and delivering another fierce-looking interceptor craft.

This bad boy looks sleek, fast, and dangerous — exactly the sort of thing the cops of the future will need to hunt down intergalactic miscreants. The colors are spot-on, and the photography is well-done, managing to capture the details and greebles on the hull — no mean feat with this much black brick around. I also really like Don’s angled dual-screen displays in the cockpit.

Take nothing but minerals, leave nothing but tyre prints

Check out this smart LEGO space rover scene from Sad Brick. The mining vehicle itself is an excellent example of quality microscale building, creating an impression of detail and realistic function with the use of only a handful of parts. But it’s the quality landscaping in tan bricks — tanscaping, if you will — which really impresses me. Don’t miss the tracks left in the dust behind the rover’s wheels — brilliant.

LEGO Batman Movie 2017 set images revealed [News]

After some tantalizing reveals at San Diego Comic Con and New York Comic Con earlier in the year, official images (including box art) have now emerged revealing most of the LEGO Batman Movie set lineup scheduled to hit shelves in 2017. We’ll relay exact information about pricing, availability, and the sets not already pictured here as it comes to us. These look like great sets that will complement what looks to be a promising movie!

Australian builder Chade has created a vehicle from my childhood, the 1983 GMC Vandura from the 80s show The A-Team. The A-Team were military veterans, in hiding after being framed and court martialled for a crime they didn’t commit. They were ready to fight in the corner of the ‘little guy’ with huge explosions, lots of gun fire, but no serious injuries or death caused. They travelled in their black 1983 GMC Vandura with a red slash across the side. Chade’s LEGO Technic version is a little bit special as it’s a remote controlled vehicle with powered doors, working lights and enough power to allow a few high spins.

Take a look inside: seats for B.A. Baracus and Hannibal in the front with Murdock in the back, and all built with Technic parts. The sliding side door and rear doors are powered, but the front doors and the bonnet open and close via the power of a human hand. Check out this video showing all of the powered functions in action and offering a closer look inside.

If you want to build your own version of this powered LEGO A-Team van, Chade has kindly provided instructions for his creation.

Vikings menace a huge LEGO display of Anglo Saxon Britain

Brick To The Past is a collective of British builders who specialize in large-scale historical dioramas in LEGO. We’ve covered some of their previous masterpieces, including a huge Roman camp and section of Hadrian’s Wall, and their recreation of the streets of Victorian London. We recently interviewed leading member James Pegrum about BttP’s impressive Battle of Hastings display. As if that wasn’t enough for 2016, the gang’s latest effort is this enormous diorama depicting a section of Anglo Saxon Britain in 793AD.

As you’d expect from such a large model, there are numerous areas worthy of your attention. An obvious highlight is the monastery under attack by Viking raiders…

First look at 7 sets for LEGO’s Ninjago 2017 line [News]

We’ve seen a lot of next year’s sets over the past week, but here’s another one: Ninjago. Below are 7 sets from the new lineup, which feature the ninja masters facing off against metallic snake warriors called the Vermillion. As usual there are lots of cool vehicles, dragons, and mechs. When it absolutely positively has to be there before winter

It’s that time of the year again… Time for the annual Colossal Castle Contest! We’ve already featured a few of this year’s CCC entries, but the amazing creations just keep coming. Paul Trach is even labeling his CCC builds, presumably to promote the contest. His adorable little dogsled is full of baked goods and weapons – everything you need to survive the harsh winter weather.

LEGO ends promotional giveaways with Daily Mail amid protests [News]

Yesterday, LEGO announced that it had no further plans for promotional giveaways with UK newspaper the Daily Mail. While LEGO itself did not offer a reason for this decision, there has been an ongoing protest against the Danish toy manufacturer’s association with the Daily Mail, led by social media campaigners @StopFundingHate.

The Stop Funding Hate campaign states that its aim is to tackle the culture of hate, demonisation and division surrounding the Brexit referendum, and more specifically to “take on the divisive hate campaigns of the Sun, Daily Mail and Daily Express by persuading advertisers to pull their support”. LEGO responded to the campaigners by tweeting that “We have finished the agreement with The Daily Mail and are not planning any future promotional activity with the newspaper”.

Stop Funding Hate drew attention to a letter written by Mr Bob Jones, a father from London, who voiced his concern at vitriolic headlines and articles published by the Daily Mail. He specifically mentioned those surrounding the Brexit referendum, migrants, and personal attacks on High Court judges who heard the case challenging Theresa May’s right to trigger the Article 50 process without the backing of Parliament.
