LEGO Ninjago 71775: Nya’s Samurai X Mech – A Crystalized idea of a cool robot [Review]

Season 15 of Ninjago is nearly here, and that means LEGO is unveiling a whole host of tie-in sets. The theme this time around is “Crystalized” – with our heroic ninjas taking on the Vengestone Army and their leader, the Crystal King. The summer 2022 sets include everything you’d expect from a Ninjago release – dragons, motorcycles, playsets, and…oh yeah…giant robots. We’re starting out our reviews with Ninjago 71775 Nya’s Samurai X Mech – a 1003 piece set that will be available starting June 1st in the UK, and August 1st worldwide, for US $119.99 | CAN $149.99 | UK £99.99. Featuring the Samurai X Mech, a crystal beast, and a whopping 8 minifigures this set is ready for some serious play. Come along as we take things for an early test drive!

LEGO Ideas 40533 Cosmic Cardboard Adventures – A Boxy Gift with Purchase [Review]

Last February, LEGO Ideas ran a contest to find an “Out of this world!” space build to be turned into a gift-with-purchase. Now, just over a year later, the winning concept from Ivan Guerrero arrives in stores starting May 16th. You can claim a copy of LEGO Ideas 40533 Cosmic Cardboard Adventures with a qualifying purchase of US $160 | CAN $160 | UK £160. This 203 piece set features an imaginative spacecraft that really leans into the concept of “boxy”. But is this an idea worth pursuing? Come along as we take an early look!

LEGO The Transformers 10302 Optimus Prime is more than meets the eye. [Review]

In the early 1980s, an actor named Peter Cullen told his brother Larry that he was using their shared car to go to an audition for “the voice of a hero truck.” Larry, a decorated Marine officer, gave Peter some advice on how to play an effective leader, “Be strong enough to be gentle.” Peter took Larry’s words to heart and earned the role of Optimus Prime, commander of the Autobots. The show Peter Cullen was auditioning for, The Transformers, was basically a commercial meant to sell repurposed toys from Japan to kids in America. It wasn’t supposed to create an icon. But, when Optimus Prime was killed on-screen in The Transformers: The Movie, the backlash was swift and immediate. Peter Cullen’s “strong but gentle” performance had turned Optimus Prime into something more than just an action figure in the eyes of the audience. The Transformers team quickly set to work on a series of episodes to revive Optimus Prime in Season 3 of the show, and Optimus would remain one of the few constants of the ever-evolving franchise from then on. Now, nearly forty years later, that original incarnation of Optimus Prime has been given new life once again as a fully transformable 1508-piece LEGO set. LEGO The Transformers 10302 Optimus Prime will be available June 1st, for US $169.99 | CAN $219.99 | UK £149.99

LEGO Architecture 21058 Great Pyramid of Giza: draw back the sands of time [Review]

When a set review for an unknown Architecture set rumored only as “Monuments of the World” arrived last week, the “click” of other rumors falling into place was audible. Here is one monument of the world – specifically, the oldest and only largely intact of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Great Pyramid of Giza! This lovely diorama moves the time span covered by the Architecture series more than 2,000 years further into the past – The Great Wall of China is the only prior set within several millennia of it – and is also the first Architecture set to depict the same structure at different points in time. 21058 Great Pyramid of Giza has 1,476 pieces. It will retail for US $129.99 | CAN $169.99 | UK £124.99, and to be available June 1st in the UK and August 1st world wide. Read our hands-on review to learn more.

TBB NEWS AND REVIEWS This week was as big a LEGO news week as last week was light on news. LEGO revealed over 20 new sets for Summer 2022 from City, Ninjago, Creator, Art, Harry Potter, and Marvel Superheroes. We also reviewed two LEGO Star Wars sets and a Disney Pixar set. LEGO Ninjago Summer 2022 sets revealed [News]

German toy retailer JB Spielwaren has also shared product images of the upcoming LEGO Ninjago Summer sets. At least nine new products will hit store shelves in June, with probably some polybags or gift sets to follow. As usual, each new wave explores new bold designs and brings a ton of minifigures for battle scenes. Check out all the new sets down below.

LEGO ART 31206 Rolling Stones revealed online [News]

German toy retailer Taschengelddieb has just published the first official product picture of the next LEGO ART set, 31206 Rolling Stones. A 1998-piece brick-build Hot Lips logo is a very unusual LEGO model, targeted at the rock band’s most devoted fans. The set will go on sale on June 1, for EUR 149,99 (in Europe). Other regional prices are yet to be announced.

New LEGO City 2022 summer sets explore farming and retail [News]

According to the product images revealed by German toy-retailer JB Speilwaren, this summer LEGO City is revisiting local farms — and it’s all about fresh and healthy produce. Four new sets ranging from a tiny one to a solid city building, re-introduce farming with lots of new animal figures. There is a bunch of highlights, with one being a full-size grocery store.

Downtown Noodle Shop and Viking Ship open LEGO Creator summer line-up [News]

Official product pictures of the first two LEGO Creator summer sets were published by German online retailer JB Spielwaren. The sets continue the sub-themes introduced earlier, with the 31131 Downtown Noodle Shop being an excellent addition to the modular street on budget, while the 31132 Viking Ship is yet another homage to old LEGO original themes. Both sets are slated for June 1, priced at EUR 44,99 and EUR 119,99 respectively. More regional prices are to follow.

LEGO BrickHeadz 40560 Professors of Hogwarts unveiled [News]

Yet another surprise in today’s avalanche of summer LEGO sets is 40560 Professors of Hogwarts that appeared in the LEGO online shop. A pack of four characters in the format of BrickHeadz adds Professors Snape, McGonagall, Moody, and Trelawny to the collection. The set will go perfectly with other characters, like Albus Dumbledore from LEGO BrickHeadz 41621 set or less friendly-looking characters like Voldemort and Bellatrix from set 40496. The new pack will retail for US $39.99 | UK £39.99 but the release date is yet to be announced.

LEGO City Summer 2022 train sets revealed [News]

The recently unveiled LEGO City 60336 Freight Train is joined today by two more train-themed sets that appeared on LEGO.com. As a tradition, the cargo train is accompanied by the new 60337 Passenger Express Train. Additionally, the city is finally getting the new station building in the form of the 60335 Train station set. Although based on the existing train system, the sets bring a lot of new play scenarios, with other City sub-themes introduced here and there. All three sets will go on sale on June 1, with prices to be confirmed shortly.
