Dale Horvath’s RV from The Walking Dead in LEGO [Instructions]

While Dale may not get to enjoy his retirement driving around the country with his wife in an RV, we can all enjoy this great LEGO rendition of his iconic vehicle from the first two seasons of The Walking Dead, built by hachiroku24. The builder has included numerous key details, including all the gear Dale needs on his roof to keep watch over the survivors’ camp. I particularly like the rolled up awning.

If you want to build your own LEGO version of Dale’s RV, the builder has provided step-by-step instructions in the following video.

Remembering Carrie Fisher (1956-2016) [News]

Beloved actress and writer Carrie Fisher has passed away at age 60, after a recent heart attack. While she will be most fondly remembered for her role as the feisty Princess Leia Organa in the Star Wars saga, Fisher appeared in many other well-known movies including The Blues Brothers and When Harry Met Sally. She was also both an accomplished writer (often drawing upon her own over-the-top life experiences in Postcards from the Edge and more recently The Princess Diarist) and an oft-uncredited screenplay writer with involvement in movies like Hook and The Wedding Singer.

The iconic image of Fisher as Princess Leia will almost certainly be the one that stays with her fans, whether it be sporting the flowing regal gown and giant hair buns of A New Hope, or the metallic bikini “slave girl” outfit from Return of the Jedi. These images resonate with LEGO fans too, and over the years we’ve featured plenty of custom builds of the Leia character. Below are a few of them.

Haulin’ imperial cargo like nobody’s business

Star Wars: Rogue One introduced the world to the AT-ACT, an imperial walker with a large cargo hold and plenty of fire-power. It’s the perfect vehicle when you need to haul cargo across the beaches of Scarif, but still need to be prepared to start a counterattack against rebel forces. Forgotten Days‘s minifig-scale version of the AT-ACT is impressive, most impressive.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - AT-ACT

Day’s walker has some great shaping and textures, especially on the legs and head. And check out those ground troops on the beach; perfect marching formations even in the face of incoming rebel fire! If minifig-scale LEGO creations aren’t for you, there’s no need to fret because [E]ddy Plu has your back with his microscale AT-ACT.

Micro Lego Rogue One

Even at this tiny scale, Plu captured the distinct walker with its orange cargo hold and delicate legs. Best of all, the tiny splashes of water and lazer beam bolts give this miniature beach a real sense of action. And the microscale stormtroopers and rebels are pretty cute too.

Who needs a dungeon when you have a jungle gym?

Those orcs surely had something sinister planned for their prisoners, but luckily for these poor souls, the King’s cavalry arrived just in the nick of time. Paul Trach‘s latest LEGO scene might not include any grand castles, but it’s got some action-packed fig posing and lovely autumn colors. Of course, the star of Paul’s scene is that ingenious jungle gym-esque cage made of tubing and robot arms.

A modern fire station for a modern town

Fire stations are a LEGO staple, both in sets and custom creations. There are many out there, but few as good as this one by S Asbury, who seems to be somewhat of a perfectionist, as indicated by his description of his fire department build: “It took me more than ten years to build a fire station. I’d start one, then start over after deciding it wasn’t up to par.” I must say that all the effort was worth it. The texture, clean lines and strong contrast are obvious characteristics of modern architecture, of which this fire station is a perfect example. The camera angle helps a lot too, putting the observer into the perspective of a minifig, and that is always a good way to make a model appear more immersive.

Shortcut through a shady part of town

I would think twice about ducking through mike m.‘s narrow street, no matter how much of a hurry I was in. Piles of overflowing trash clutter the thin lane, and the myriad of signs hanging uncomfortably at head height do a wonderful job of making the place look just too unwelcoming for my taste. What I find most interesting is that the reflective nature of LEGO bricks, which usually gets in the way of making creations look realistic, actually looks like faded graffiti on the left wall. It took me a while to put my finger on it, and it’s a very neat effect.

Gorgeous Gargantuan GODZILLA in all its Glory

This gigantic Godzilla is a masterpiece like no other. Builder IGU gloriously captures the essence of this monster and leaves you in awe. The tail construction features a great use of tyres to give it an organic look and feeling of strength.

I can’t think of anything scarier that has been constructed in LEGO in recent times. The Stegosaurus-like plates are cleverly constructed, giving Godzilla his familiar silhouette. He stands tall and proud, and makes you wonder at just how heavy this guy really is!

The best creations are those that tell a story

Building with LEGO is all about self-expression and exercising one’s imagination, but creations that tell real-life stories have always compelled my attention. Jeffrey Kong‘s stationery holder and drawer unit is not just a nice decoration for an office desk. In fact it is a tiny copy of the Old National Library of Singapore, which was demolished in 2004. According to the build’s description, the National Library building was one of the symbols of the city, especially popular among students. I love the symbolism of this work, and its neat clean style makes it a brilliant remembrance.

What you build now, you will harvest later

The end of December is a time when people reflect on the year just passed. And if your year wasn’t as fruitful as you expected it to be, don’t be upset — you simply need to upgrade you harvesting machinery. Just have a look at what Michał Skorupka has recently added to his service yard. This LEGO CLAAS Lexion 760 is capable of anything the original is. What makes this 4500-bricks monster stand out from other scale replicas is its mind-blowing innards: 13 LEGO motors are responsible for almost a dozen remotely controlled functions.

The video below contains a detailed review of the vehicle, while more pictures can be found in the Michał’s Flickr stream.

Two lane brick top

Getting the beautiful curves for the Porsche Carrera accurate with LEGO bricks seems like an impossible task, but Senator Chinchilla has accomplished it with their stunning 2016 series. The builder has bravely chosen to sculpt in black, one of the more complicated of colors to photograph. Although in this case, it helps illustrate the serious brickwork and intricate construction that has gone in to the creation of the Carrera’s fine lines and shapely panels.

The builder has also included a fully detailed stylish interior featuring bucket seats, air vents, gear stick and working glove compartment. This stunning machine looks like it could be Gone in Brixty Seconds.

The Little Match Girl

This digital build by Bert Van Raemdonck uses many pieces in colors that LEGO doesn’t actually produce, but does anyone even care? This recreation of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Match Girl captures all the emotions of the fairytale, as deep as they are. It reminds us not to take the good in our lives for granted, and also gives us hope even in the most hopeless times.

The Little Match Girl

The build focuses on presentation and composition to carry its message, rather than complicated techniques. The combination of light and shadows in a snowy setting work in harmony with the emotions of the original story.

Santa versus dragon

A while ago, I was involved in a conversation that led to the phrase “Santa Claus fighting a dragon”. Something so ridiculous and insane just has to be built, so I did. I used some of my established techniques and here is the result. There is really not much more to be said about a build like this: what you see is what you get. Merry dungeon Christmas!
