LEGO all-stars bring Edo-era Japan to life in LEGO in epic collab

Each year the RogueBricks community, home to many of Europe’s most accomplished LEGO builders, comes together for a collaborative build. This year’s endeavor is an immersive recreation of the Japanese city of Kumamoto during the Edo Period built atop a whopping 170 base plates (that’s 2.5 x 4.3 meters!). The massive diorama depicts the coastal city in autumn and is packed with details of life during the Tokugawa shogunate, including scenes telling the story of the famous samurai Miyamoto Musashi.

Rogue Ronin – A RogueBricks Collaboration

Attendees were treated to motorized elements and integrated lighting, as well as informative plaques describing the history captured in bricks. As a bonus easter egg for young visitors, 10 Ninjago charaters were hidden in the build. Like 2023’s Rogue Odyssey collaboration, the project took home first prize for collaborations from both jury and audience. We’ve highlighted several contributions in recent weeks, but only now can we share the complete build thanks to Hannes Tscharner. Extended highlights and builder credits follow.

TBB’s Best and worst LEGO sets of 2024 [Feature]

Here at The Brothers Brick, we review many sets each year, and with over 500 official LEGO sets released in 2024 across every theme, there were certainly a lot of great sets that caught our eye, as well as a few that left us scratching our collective heads wondering what they were thinking. As we reach the end of another year of LEGO it’s time to look back over some of the best, and some of the worst (in our opinion) sets from LEGO to release in 2024. Be sure to let us know in the comments if you have any other nominations for best or worst LEGO sets from this last year.

TBB readers speak! Your favorite LEGO moments of 2024 [Feature]

Weeks ago, we asked what LEGO moments meant the most to our readers, and heard from so many about their favorite times with the brick over the last year. It feels like 2024 has gone by so fast for me, but it sounds like many of you had time to stop and enjoy LEGO in the last 365 days. While I won’t be able to cover all the submissions we had, here’s a smattering of your favorite LEGO moments from 2024.

TBB’s Top 10 LEGO set reviews of 2024 [Feature]

It’s that time when everyone – including us at the Brothers Brick – is doing a Year in Review. We’ve already done that to an extent: shortlists for our Creation of the Year and Builder of the Year awards, plus the 10 most popular creations to feature on our website. But what about our Year in Reviews, plural? Hundreds of LEGO sets were released this year, and our critical eye passed over 89 of them. Inevitably, some were more popular than others, both with our reviewing team and you, the readers! We’ve crunched the numbers, and these were our 10 most popular review articles from 2024. And if you missed any, check out our complete reviews archive for this year and beyond!

TBB’s top 10 LEGO creations of 2024 [Feature]

Adult LEGO builders are an amazing and imaginative lot. While most who buy LEGO are happy with building sets as per the instructions and calling it a day, an elite bunch take it a step further when they create from scratch. While opinions may vary, we’ve crunched numbers, done some analytics stuff and came up with The Brothers Brick top 10 creations of 2024 based on views. Without further ado, here’s what you came for.

Introducing: This Week in LEGO Bricks [Feature]

In 2025 The Brothers Brick will be celebrating 20 years of daily LEGO posts. A lot has changed over those years – from the variety of sets we cover, to the techniques employed by builders, to the people share their love for the hobby. One thing remains very much the same there at TBB, and that’s our mission to showcase the amazing creativity within the LEGO community as inclusive as possible. That’s a mission shared by one of our favorite builders and content creators to emerge in recent years: aBrickDreamer. Every week on “This Week in Bricks,” aBrickDreamer rounds up the most interesting creations, articles, and events in the community. The video format offers a new way to expand on our shared mission, and we think aBrickDreamer’s insightful and generous takes are a perfect compliment to the site’s mission. So starting this week, we’re excited to share This Week in LEGO Bricks here on the site so you have a new way to keep up with the best that the hobby has to offer!

Shortlist announced for TBB Creation of the Year 2024 [News]

We cover loads of amazing LEGO builds over the course of a year on the Brothers Brick. In fact, over the course of the past 12 months, that’s over 700 individual creations! Now they’re all great, obviously – but every year, a handful really stand out to us, and we like to bestow upon one of them the Creation of the Year crown. It might be a creation that uses parts in a new and interesting way. Perhaps it’s a collaborative build, combining the talents of multiple builders to reach new heights (just like last year’s winners!). Maybe it’s so epic in scope and scale that we simply couldn’t stop thinking about it. One thing’s for sure: it will have taken our breath away! The TBB staff have trawled through their memory banks and our site archives to draw up a shortlist of 10 of our favourite builds. These won’t necessarily be the most popular – keep an eye out for that list in the coming days! – but we will announce the winner on New Year’s Eve. Read up on our nominees, and check out our previous winners in the archives!

Without further ado, let’s meet our nominees!

Shortlist announced for TBB Builder of the Year 2024 [News]

The end of the year is always a time for reflection. At the Brothers Brick, that normally involves trying not to think how much we spent on LEGO sets, or how many times our resident lemur mistook a LEGO piece for a snack this year. (I make it six, at last count.) But we also like to reflect on all the incredible builders to have graced our site in the past twelve months. As we do so, a handful stick out who are clear contenders for the coveted TBB Builder of the Year title. Usually, these will be creators who have shown, among other things, consistency, growth, creativity, versatility, and a mastery of the humble LEGO brick. Basically, the ones that we constantly find ourselves writing about! You can see our shortlist below, and check out previous winners in our archives (there’s a full list at the end of the article, too). Oh, and be sure to let us know who your pick is in the comments!

Ladies and gentlemen, your nominees are…

2024 TBB custom LEGO advent calendar – Day 24 [Feature]

All year-round, we here at The Brothers Brick spend our time featuring amazing builds made by the LEGO fan community. But we figured, for the holiday season, it would be great to build something together. For each day from December 1st through the 24th, we’ll be posting instructions to a custom TBB advent calendar build, one part each day. Want to participate? You can find all the parts you’ll need for the TBB Advent Event from our announcement in November. Read on to see what we’re building today!

2024 LEGO Advent Calendars, Day 24 [Feature]

We’ve made it to the end. Christmas Eve is here and with it, the final doors of our six advent calendars. LEGO tends to hold a special treat for the final day. Still no sign of Red One… Maybe Moana can ask her friend The Rock to help track him down. Or we could just open the doors and see what we find! We have six calendars to get through: Friends, Disney, City, Harry Potter, Star Wars, and Spider-Man. Which has been your favorite this year?

As ever, our intrepid TBB team is on hand with witty comments, insightful observations, and bad jokes for each day’s builds. And of course, you can add your own thoughts in the comments section each day! So without further ado, let’s crack open the build for day 24…
