On one hand, it’s difficult to continue being surprised at the brilliant LEGO creations that Kris Kelvin churns out with alarming regularity. On the other hand, we can rely on a steady stream of cool stuff to enjoy every month or two, like “Castle of the Order of the Black Falcons”.

The Emerald Viper
Tito challenged himself to use what is sometimes considered a “useless” part. Make it the cowling for an awesome speeder bike, and there’s no such thing as a useless LEGO element.
The minifig hand attached to the horn on the front is a lovely little detail.
Howitzer Motor Carriage M8
Is it wrong that I think this treaded engine of death is adorable? Apparently, the M8 is a real vehicle from World War II, but that stubby little cannon is really rather cute. Keep ’em rolling, Captain Eugene.
On the frigid plains of Hoth
We generally don’t feature the all-too-common (though sometimes artistic) photos of official LEGO sets people post online, but these ones by Avanaut are hardly stormtroopers in cereal bowls.
The rebel air corps may need a bit of help from their ground crew to get into this frozen Y-wing:
A pair of rebel troopers take advantage of the weather for a bit of winter fun:
Photoshop, you say. No. It’s all real. Thanks for the tip, Dave Eaton!
Mike Wazowski experiences a rather nasty surprise
Iain Heath (Ochre Jelly) makes a rather hilarious connection between Mike from Monsters, Inc. and a Granny Smith apple. Jaw-dropping indeed.
For a bonus Monsters, Inc. LEGO creation, here’s “Boo’s Door” by Alex Eylar:

Not-quite-floating rock
qworg presents “Pegasus’ Fortress,” a small castle on a very tall spire of rock.
Notice the town, docks, and even clouds far below the castle. The combination of minifig scale and microscale create a forced-perspective effect that takes this from cool to awesome.

LEGO pirates dare not scale St. Ann’s Cliff
Though this was featured as part of TomarLEGO earlier this year, we’ve had to wait nearly six months to see more pictures of one of the display’s centerpieces, “St. Ann’s Cliff” by Ricardo Silva (evildead):
A working windmill and round tower complement excellent landscaping, but my favorite bit is that tiny chunk of exposed brick in the otherwise white wall. Classic.
The Archangel Michael crushes evil with big stompy feet
This new mecha from Mark Neumann (SnowLeopard) represents Mark’s return to LEGO after a fairly lengthy period away from his bricks. Welcome back, Mark!
Though it’s been nice to see Mark at events like BrickCon and SEALUG meetings (thanks for the ride home last month!), it’s also great to see a new LEGO creation from him. Click the pic to see Mark’s description and backstory.

I love the new shark-headed dude in 8060 Typhoon Turbo Sub.

are also out now.
MisaQa launches her 2009 LEGO Advent Calendar
One of my favorite holiday traditions in the LEGO fan community is MisaQa‘s annual Advent Calendar, taking us day by day from December 1st through Christmas Eve. This year, she’s presenting a new microscale building each day.
Keep an eye on the Flickr photoset or MisaQa’s website, STUD & TUBE.
