Since about three years I’ve been living in a port city. I’m enjoying the fresh sea breeze (although we’re having a bit too much of that at the moment, both in terms of quantity and freshness, but that’s another story) and the scenery. For instance, my route to work takes me through the inner harbour, which means I get to see some of the ships moored there. Among them is a coaster, complete with bearded skipper wearing a cap and a wooly turtleneck jumper.
The Dutch Coaster built by Arjan Oude Kotte (Konajra) doesn’t seem to have a skipper with a wooly jumper, but all the other details are there. I can now go stare at it without the windchill.

Racism, handcuffs and tan half-pins
H. P. Lovecraft is, arguably, the most important author in the history of horror. The recalcitrant racist from Providence basically invented the modern horror genre back at the turn of the 20th century. Thorsten Bonsch (Xenomurphy) has created (with some help from Legopard) a highly atmospheric LEGO imagining of his study, complete with diabolical details and pretty presentation. Another entry for Mocathalon 2013.
PS. And yes, I am planning to enter Alliterathalon 2013.
Blue Pullman train in LEGO
Carl Greatrix (bricktrix) has once again built something I thought would be impossible to reproduce in LEGO. The Blue Pullman was a very strange, but ugly/attractive diesel luxury train running in Britain through the 60s. Its very distinctive wedge shaped face is extremely challenging, but Carl has managed to get a pretty great likeness. It also looks very nice lit up and running.
Post-apocalyptic train
Stijn Oom has just made a stunning post-apocalyptic LEGO diorama for 2013 Mocathlon. Very notable features are the track sinking into the swamp, and the leaning building, but the whole diorama offers a very pleasing mixture of artificial and natural forms.
MDI.69 Blokhead
As much as I enjoy the type of classic mecha we post here all the time, it’s also nice to run into something that’s a bit different from the norm. Aaron Williams (m_o_n_k_e_y) asks, “Have you ever started on a MOC and ended up with something completely different?” Therein, my friends, lies the joy of building with LEGO!
I can’t discern any sort of purpose for Aaron’s “Blokhead.” It lacks giant guns. It doesn’t have enormous lifting arms or tools. But it sure looks confident.
E.T. Phone Home
I’m guessing you recognize this iconic scene from an essential 80s film, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. There are few images that can make you feel nostalgic quite like a bright moon and a boy on his bike. Noah McClung (Glory_Forever) has rendered it beautifully in brick.
Lego Starcraft Mutalisk
Ever since the mutalisk buff, in Starcraft 2 Heart of the Swarm, this Zerg flyer has been massively popular in games. It looks like Mike Nieves (retinence) got the message and made his own to join his Zerg swarm. You can see more photos on Imgur.
The wa F8 Lanius is One Sweet Mecha
Flickr user legorobo:waka has posted his wa F8 Lanius, a truly sweet mecha that hits all the right notes.  It has classic anime styling, great details, articulation and best of all, houses a minfig pilot. In particular, the details I like best are the feet/ landing gear, the hands and guns, and the classic Japanese style mecha head with the Uruk-Hai sword on the back. The way he was able to tuck the pilot into the chest cavity without it looking too bulky, or sacrificing the styling detail is pretty sweet too.

Announcing the Wrath of the Titans Contest
Are you already getting tired of the MocAthalon? Then I’ve got good news for you. Simon Pickard and James Pegrum, both active members of the Greco-Roman LEGO group, are organising a contest that strikes me as new and original. No, it’s not about wrestling; the aim is to create a LEGO scene that depicts an event involving the titans of ancient Greece.

Lego Accessories for the Sophisticated Gentleman by Bruce Lowell
“What’s this fine looking man doing on the front page of The Brothers Brick?” you say. “He doesn’t look like Lego!” Well, no, Bruce Lowell isn’t made of Lego, though we do suspect liquified ABS runs in his veins. His accoutrements are, however, made of Lego. Look closely, and you’ll see that the tie, tie clip, boutonniere, cuff links, belt, and even pocket square are all one-hundred percent brick. Bruce has pioneered an excellent way to show off your inner geek and look dashing doing it.
Packmann
No, that’s not a spelling mistake in the title. Cole Blaq‘s Packmann 850 clearly works in a warehouse packing (or unpacking) shelves. This is LEGO mecha design at its cleanest.
