LEGO Star Wars is one of the most popular LEGO themes of all time. Far beyond X-wings and TIE fighters, there’s a whole expanded universe of inspiration, and an army of LEGO fans ready to build whatever comes out of George Lucas’s head next.

More Preliminary 2009 Set Pictures (Indy and Clone Wars) [News]

lokosuperfluoLEGOman has updated the folder with more pictures of 2009 LEGO sets, including Star Wars: Clone Wars and Indiana Jones.  Please keep in mind that these are all preliminary pictures and are almost certainly subject to change, therefore the use of old pieces in new figures (such as Patrick the starfish’s torso used for the brute in the Flying Wing set and the Imperial Guard torso used for Willie) will probably change.  Also note that the Flying Wing preliminary set art includes a Swastika, something The LEGO Company will certainly not use in the final box art.  Note that the pictures seen here are from corran11’s photostream on Flickr, because some images are cropped and rotated for easier viewing.

10188 Death Star speed build video

Okay, so it’s really an ad from LEGO for the upcoming LEGO Star Wars 10188 Death Star set, but it’s still really cool to watch it getting built in a time lapse video from BrickWorld 2008. ;-)

Remember, the Death Star is currently available for pre-order, and will ship by September 16.

LEGO Star Wars Clone Wars sets and the Toys R Us Midnight Sale

iconiconFor those curious to know what went on at the Toys R Us Midnight Sale last night, I took a ride to my local store to check out the frontline action. The Midnight Sale, hosted by participating Toys R Us stores, celebrates the release of new Star Wars Clone Wars toys, such as action figures, LEGO Star Wars sets, and other miscellaneous Clone Wars items.

Participants at the event received the limited edition holographic General Grievous action figure and Clone Wars poster for their purchases.

iconiconThe picture below was taken last night at my local store near Dallas, and you can see how many people showed up. Inside the store was a marked section dedicated to all the brand new merchandise, and I’m excited to see that the LEGO Clone Wars sets dominated about a third of the space.

Almost half of the shopping carts I saw contained LEGO products. However, to my chagrin, Toys R Us has marked up prices on all of these new LEGO sets by $5-10. In the end I used coupons to purchase two Republic Gunshipsicon, definitely one of the must-have LEGO sets of the year.

If you missed this event, good news is that you didn’t miss too much.

iconiconJust today LEGO Shop at Home has listed all of the new Clone Wars sets fresh for sale. Don’t forget that your order qualifies for a free gold brick keychain with purchases over $75 until the end of July.

Here’s the full list of LEGO Star Wars Clone Wars sets available from the LEGO Shop:

For the past few months, LEGO fans have wondered what’s inside the exclusive secret Indiana Jones box available at Comic-Con (July 24-27) with a limited edition of 500. LEGO Star Wars Clone Wars sets at Celebration Japan [News]

The new LEGO Star Wars Clone Wars sets will be available soon, but attendees at Star Wars Celebration Japan got an early look at some of the sets — and the minifigs in particular.

Edge (エッジ) over at レゴ系 (The LEGO System) was there, and took a bunch of pictures of the LEGO Star Wars booth.

Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker, and a bunch of clones:

Bonnie Burton from the Official Star Wars Blog also took a handful of pictures of the Clone Wars LEGO, including close-ups of the nose art on the Republic Gunship:

Swagman robot by Teikjoon

Even robots sometimes get down in the dumps and have to scrounge for a living. Though this reminds me of something from the Futurama universe, Teikjoon sets this lovely little vignette in the Star Wars universe, where — on a planet embargoed by the Trade Federation — unemployed robots “choose to stay operational, scavenging for energy packs”:

LEGO Star Wars A-Wing Interceptor by Jarek

From the narrow gap in the nose to the detailed tail, Jarek‘s A-Wing is a gorgeous little fighter:

If standard red isn’t your thing, perhaps you’d prefer sunny yellow:

Darth Vader has a tough go of it in Gotham City

Reader Chris McVeigh (Flickr) combines excellent photography with recent LEGO sets to tell a funny little story. Captioned “Trading Places,” Darth Vader trades places with Batman:

I think Batman got the better end of the deal.

Sjaak Alvarez makes life difficult for the Empire

Sjaak Alvarez recently posted a third installment in his ongoing series “It’s hard to be a Stormtrooper”.

Watch for the hilarious cameo at the end:

Sjaak animates each of his videos himself, using 3ds max 2009 and final Render 2.0. Very cool.
