Speaking of photographing your LEGO models well, brothers Joe and Will Merzlak do some of the coolest “on-location” LEGO photography around. Their latest, a hulking beast of a vehicle called the Goat, looks prepared to drive through positively any sort of terrain, and actually seems to be doing so.
Jean-Pascal Rignault has always had a way with hover cars. I love the angles and aggressive look of this new creation. To me, it harkens back to the aesthetic of ’60s muscle cars, in an awesome way. The flame stickers on the side are the perfect complement to the look.
Jon Blackford has made this fantastic diorama illustrating what might happen to an unfortunate Neo-Classic-Space landing party. He’s got a great style going on here with the limited colors and the nifty shaping of the rock platform.
If you are familiar with Mike Yoder at all, then you know that he not only builds a mean LEGO spaceship, but he is also a gifted painter. Well Mike certainly has proven both of these points with his latest project…an acrylic on canvas painting of his Calamity Jane starship.
I don’t recall a spaceship ever looking so beautiful.
Dave Shaddix just finished this mosaic in honor of Buzz Aldrin’s recenly celebrated 83rd birthday. This is a great rendition of an iconic photograph. For the few who don’t know who or what is in the picture, it is a picture that Neil Armstrong took of Buzz Aldrin during the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969. The LEM and Neil Armstrong are reflected in the visor of Buzz Aldrin’s spacesuit. Well done, Dave, I love it!
I’ll always remember Catoblepas as a big horned beast in various Final Fantasy games over the years, but Shamisenfred puts an entirely different image to the name with his strange starfighter, “the bounty hunter Assa-Rak’s personal ship.” The four hover-pods make the ship look a bit like a race car, and the purple pods from the new Galaxy Squad sets make an excellent … whatever that is.
Although it’s unlikely I’ll be able to contribute to this latest LEGO bandwagon, I’ve certainly enjoyed watching the new models come out of the GARC craze. Built in my favorite color, VolumeX‘s TEAM G-Hornet46 includes some really interesting parts usage under all those stickers — especially the light & sound brick from the Insectoids sets of the late ’90s.
Tough luck to TR that I got in first on this GARC. With his Rendez-Vous, Nathan Proudlove shows he’s clearly a fan of rainbow warriors.
The 5 days that Evan B. (Lego Junkie.) spent to build this space freighter belies its quality of construction. The distinct shapes and chunks of color on the cargo containers give this SHIP an organized appearance and thus doesn’t require much work on the eyes to follow its contours.
The concept of futuristic trains is hardly new, but I’m surprised this theme has not been explored much by Lego builders, many of which are train fans as well. I’m delighted to see this futuristic yet realistic looking locomotive by Peter Morris.
I’m not one-hundred percent certain what this is, but given the builder’s (62778grenouille) history of creating other gorgeous models from Miyazaki’s films, I’m guessing this is the giant horsefly, or ushiabu, from Miyazaki’s 1984 masterpiece, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. In any case, it’s a fantastic and slightly terrifying creature, with some really interesting building techniques.
Perhaps I have missed them, but I am surprised that we have not seen more creations made for the Space Marine Collectible Minifigure.
But Peter Morris (peterlmorris) has done it in spades with his Rapid Reaction Force. The SM-41 Mauler mech is a more heavily armed variant of his previous Futuron Strategic Pursuer Mk II. Not only does the mech add some firepower to his squad, but he also outfitted the figs with some extra pew-pew. I also must give props to LEGO for giving us so many unique sci-fi heads over the years…as a result there is a lot of added personality in Peter’s squad, and that is very cool!
