I watched Predator with the lights off late one night by myself when I was 14, terrified just as much that my parents would find me watching a hyper-violent R-rated movie as I was of the invisible alien antagonist. Cid Hsiao has built a Predator figure that uses the organic armor of Bionicle and Hero Factory to great effect. Placed on a stand built from regular LEGO bricks, I need this imposing fellow standing guard on my desk.
We have featured many, many versions of Wall-E over the years, including Angus MacLane‘s success on Ideas, resulting in 21303 Wall-E. To say we’re big fans of this adorable little robot might just be an understatement.
It’s no surprise that we found tastenmann77‘s mini-Wall-e to be perfectly adorable. I particularly love how expressive the eye bits still manage to be at this tiny scale! It’s completely recognizable.
Let’s face it, sometimes we like to root for the bad guy. Or bad robot — as envisioned by Joe Perez in this scene featuring an amazingly accurate and fully posable LEGO version of transformer Nemesis Prime.
Amusingly, Joe recently bought a Nemesis Prime action figure and was surprised how similar his version ended up in terms of detail and scale. And of course like the toy, his version also transforms!
Graham Gidman reconstructs the barrel escape scene from The Hobbit with stunning landscaping techniques. The use of the SNOT techniques to sculpt the rock formations creates an organic look to the landscape. The flow of the water blends seamlessly with the rocks to the point that it looks like actual water from afar. Take a closer look and you’ll appreciate the fine craftsmanship of this build.
Earlier this week LEGO announced a brand new 71040 Disney Castle set which immediately had LEGO and Disney fans jumping with excitement. Today LEGO has released the designer video with LEGO Designer Marcos Bessa, allowing us to get a great look at all the features and details. The 4,080 piece set includes 5 minifigures, and will retail for $349.99 USD starting on September 1st.

A new flagship set for the Disney LEGO license has been revealed today: the picturesque Cinderella’s Castle. The castle is an icon for Disney, being the centerpiece of Disney World. The set will have 4,080 pieces and will retail for US$349.99. We don’t know yet when it will be available.
The new 2016 Ghostbusters movie is due to hit cinemas in the next few days, with the Hollywood première on Saturday. As I mentioned in my review of LEGO’s new Ecto-1 set a few weeks ago, I was not impressed by the movie trailers, but I do quite like that the main characters in the reboot are women and I also like the new version of Ecto-1.
It will be no surprise then that I’ve built my own version as a new addition to my movie vehicle collection. Among fans of the original movie there has been a backlash against the female leads, but having built more than 50 movie vehicles and the actors in the last few years, I think it’s a bit staggering to see how so few movies seem to have female characters as anything other than sidekicks or eye candy. I also know that some fans of the original movies don’t like the idea of a reboot, but from poring over pictures of the new car, I think it’s obvious that whoever designed the car at least is a fan of the original movies too. Sure, it is an eighties Cadillac rather than a classic big-finned 1959 model, but nowadays a 1959 model is exceedingly rare while an eighties car isn’t worth much. It is pretty much the perfect choice. Its roof-mounted equipment also owes a lot to Dan Aykroyd’s ideas for Ghostbusting technology used in the original movies. I don’t have a vested interest in whether the movie is any good, but the car is cool and I loved building mine and the figures to go with it.

This custom Imperial Scout Trooper from Omar Ovalle just oozes the laid back cool of a Californian motorcycle cop. The speeder bike itself is nice, and I like the base and suggestion of vegetation, but it’s all about the trooper’s attitude — shades in place, and that relaxed stance, leaning back on his ride like he’s daring you to break the speed limit.
While Finding Dory tops box offices all over the world, yu chris pays a tiny yet sweet tribute to the animation studio behind our favourite movies. It’s simply impossible not to recognize the famous desk lamp, whose name, by the way, is Luxo Jr. Here it is a second before it will smash the poor letter ‘I’…
The lamp features some simple but smart solutions. Apparently, the inner structure of the lamp is made with a handful of basic Technic beams, but I love them tiled on the outside. Thus, the lamp looks solid, and its proportions are also great. As usual, more photos are in the builder’s photo stream.
Daniel Stoeffler wowed us a couple of months back with his LEGO Manta Ray and now he uses a similar studs-out building technique to create an altogether more sinister creature. This rendition of an Alien Facehugger slithering out of its egg is properly giving me the heebie-jeebies.
Daniel says the egg is 50cm tall and the Facehugger beastie is 1m long. Impressive stuff, but if I had this on display in my house I’d never get a wink of sleep.
LEGO builder takamichi irie has designed these awesome life-sized props of Poe Dameron’s flight gear from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. A hollow, wearable helmet is a tricky shape to create from LEGO, but takamichi makes it look easy. These will go great with the life-sized LEGO lightsabers and Rebel blasters others builders have made. Now all we need is a life-sized LEGO X-Wing—oh wait, that exists!
Plus, takamichi’s even built an adorable little not-quite-life-sized BB-8 to go along with them.
It seems that just as LEGO release LEGO Ghostbusters 75827 Firehouse Headquarters, the upcoming Ghostbusters 2016 movie features a new team of ‘ghost busting’ chicks dispatched from a new HQ building. Thankfully Eric Duron has filled the gap with this excellent LEGO rendition of the Chinese restaurant building re-styled for the movie. I love the Chinatown styling especially since Eric has accomplished a great bit of LEGO lettering over the restaurant entrance.
The addition of some ‘ghost busting’ action on the roof is a lovely touch. I can’t explain why my favourite parts are the various air vents over the garage.
