We all love a good LEGO Gundam or Macross mecha, but LEGO builders everywhere are also creating excellent models of their own designs. Have a look at them here.

Ride Armor X4 Is One Sweet Hardsuit

I love mechas and hardsuits. Gregory St’s Ride Armor X4 is a real standout hardsuit. Evolved from his previous version “Fatboy,” the current version has wonderful proportions. Gregory St packs in a lot of great design into a small creation, which, trust me, isn’t easy to do. Maybe it’s just me but this creations screams “Buzz Lightyear Mech” to me.  To infinity and beyond.

Mech engineering bay hides beneath this beautiful red barn

What may look like a farm barn by Mike Yoder is actually an engineering bay for a mecha. Covert? Yes. Clever? Definitely.

When digging on an alien planet, you never know what you’ll find

Bart De Dobbelaer is back in story-telling mode again, but this time he’s doing it completely through un-captioned pictures. His news series is called the Hive and begins with an extraterrestrial excavation scene. Check back at Bart’s Flickr photostream to see the story unfold.

3 a.m. Mecha

So often it is the large models that get featured here on The Brothers Brick, but there are often small creations that are equally as epic. Case in point, Andrew Lee’s (onosendai2600) mini Metal Storm mecha. We had previously featured Cole Blaq’s much larger version, and it is pretty fantastic to see how well Andrew captured the same shapes, colours, and details at such a miniscule scale.

Now go get some sleep Andrew :)

“Let them eat birds!”

I would not want to be eaten if I were a bird…but I would be slightly more ok with it if I was eaten by legorobo:waka’s TS-21 Birdeater. That would be one heck of a way to go!

Hellboy II – Golden Army Robot

Robert H. (Robiwan_Kenobi) has built the Golden Army robot from the Hellboy II film. The combination of gold and translucent red parts make this one stunning machine to look at.

He says that this has been a work in progress for a year and a half. I am so very glad that he finished it, but also shame on him for keeping it from us for that long ;)

4-foot-tall LEGO mecha stomps through LEGO City

Ryan McNaught (TheBrickMan) takes large-scale mecha to a whole new level with this one. “Warhammer” is over 4 feet tall, took two weeks to build, and incorporates over 25,000 pieces.

I love how it’s stomping a McDonald’s… Thanks to Bruce for the tip!

Lemon_Boy Fan_Boy

I think it is a safe bet for me to say that Erik (Lemon_Boy) is one of my favourite builders on Flickr. I have an odd fascination with his work. Perhaps it is his complete lack of fear towards studs, or possibly his courageous use of colour combinations, most definitely his affinity for realistic scale…and his mildly sarcastic descriptions certainly do always give me a good chuckle. But the fact of the matter is, I feel he is a builder that really doesn’t receive the props he deserves. And I am one to talk because I don’t comment on his photos nearly as much as I should…I bloody well spend enough time browsing his stream :D

So to make up for my lack of effort in giving praise, I figured I would feature some of my favourites from his recent works.

Two helpings of mecha? YES PLEASE!

Dane E (Mechanekton) has just posted two, large, distinctive, and absolutely rockin’ mechas. Both are a very unique style and shape, and totally full of awesome details. WOW!

Hope Ever Springs Anew

This expressive vignette by Chris Maddison shows how much effect some simple posing and a bit of ingenious landscaping can impart. This scene reminds me of a re-imagining of Wall-E, featuring a fantastic humanoid robot. Good stuff.

Scopedog

I am familiar with the mecha designs from Armored Trooper VOTOMS despite having never seen the anime. It is on my “to watch” list…but in the meantime I will just swoon over this brilliant LEGO model of the Scopedog by Brickshelf user tattun.

You simply have to check out the full photo gallery!!! There is a staggering amount of detail and additional equipment that tattun has integrated into this. Absolutely brilliant work!!!

Huge thanks to FateHeart for the link. I tend not to visit Brickshelf very often, so would have surely missed this had you not sent it to me!!

EDIT: There are just so many brilliant photos of the model, that I just had to add a few more :)

The Wolverine Will Take You Down

Well, here’s a sweet mech. The Wolverine by flickr user TheBricks has a crazy muscled look, and sports not only a giant gun (naturally), but also some crazy claws of doom.
