LEGO Icons 10321 Chevrolet Corvette C1 – A classic car reimagined [Review]

The LEGO Group made a good choice when they changed the Creator Expert line into the Icons theme. It brought a level of sophistication and exclusivity that hadn’t quite been seen before. In addition, it brought out some true world icons. And one of those icons comes from a great legacy of classic cars. The LEGO Icons 10321 Chevrolet Corvette C1 appears at first glance to be a real winner. Come along as we fire up the engine and see how this one drives. The 1210-piece set will be widely available August 4th and retail for US $149.99 | CAN $199.99 | UK £129.99.

LEGO Icons 10320 Eldorado Fortress: Searching for Pirate gold [Review]

The Pirates line was a seminal theme for LEGO, introducing hoards of new elements and many things we take for granted now, such as unique faces beyond the classic smiley head. One of the largest and most sought-after sets from the original theme was 6276 Eldorado Fortress, a colonial-style base of operations for the blue-coated Imperial Guards. 10320 Eldorado Fortress is a remake of that iconic set taking advantage of 34 years of advancement in parts and techniques since the original. LEGO has avoided straight re-releases in recent years (with some notable exceptions), opting instead to tribute classics for the company’s 90th anniversary in 2022, with 10497 Galaxy Explorer as a modern upgrade to the original set, while 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle pays homage to a whole generation of Castle. Although the anniversary has passed, I am excited that LEGO has continued that nostalgia trend, turning its eye now to my personal favorite theme, Pirates. With 2,509 pieces, the new Eldorado Fortress nearly quintuples the original set’s 506 parts, though thankfully the price increases by a lesser margin, as the original was $66 in 1989 (about $161 in today’s dollars). The new set will retail for US $214.99 | CAN $279.99 | UK £189.99 when it’s available starting July 4 for VIP members (general availability will follow on July 7).

LEGO Icons reveals 10323 Pac-Man Arcade [News]

LEGO has been leaning hard into video game nostalgia with the brick-built NES and Super Mario Mighty Bowser, but Nintendo isn’t the only 80s video game getting the brick treatment. Today marks the 43rd anniversary of Pac-Man’s very first reveal, and so LEGO is also revealing 10323 Pac-Man Arcade as the latest Icons set. The 12.5 inch tall (32cm) arcade cabinet mimics the original machine and is made of 2,650 pieces and features a light-up coin slot. The set includes a pedestal with larger-scale versions of Pac-Man, Blinky, and Clyde that can be displayed separately or on top of the cabinet. There’s also a minifigure-scale arcade vignette that slides into the back of the arcade. Pac-Man and the ghosts move around the maze thanks to a hand-crank on the side. The set will retail for US $269.99 | CAN $349.99 | UK £229.99 when it’s available starting June 1 for VIP members, with general availability following June 4.

LEGO Icons reveals 10317 Land Rover Classic Defender 90 with 2,336 pieces [News]

Today LEGO has revealed that the next large-scale vehicle in the Icons theme will be the venerable Defender 90 in celebration of the brand’s 75th anniversary this year. The Defender 90 is one of the most iconic vehicles in automotive history, with this design having been available from 1983-2016 before an updated version was introduced in 2020, which has already been the subject of a LEGO Technic model. 10317 Land Rover Classic Defender 90 includes 2,336 pieces, making it one of the biggest System vehicles LEGO has ever made, edged out only by two movie vehicles, 76139 1989 Batmobile and 10274 Ghostbusters ECTO-1. The sand green Defender 90 is kitted out with loads of gear, all of which is removable, allowing you to display the vehicle either as stock or in full expedition mode. It also prominently features new System wheel arch elements that mirror those introduced in the Technic Defender model. The set will be available starting April 1 for US $239.99 | CAN $329.99 | UK £209.99.

The massive Icons 10307 Eiffel Tower will be arriving on November 25th – and LEGO has a gift with purchase promotion that is tied about as tightly to the French landmark as you can get. Gustave Eiffel’s private apartment, hidden on the third level of the tower, has been re-created in minifigure scale for Icons 40579 Eiffel’s Apartment. We’re still waiting on the official word, but our guess is it is linked to the purchase of the 10307 Eiffel Tower so getting this “booster box” of 228 pieces carries an indirect price of US $629.99 | CAN $799.99 | UK £554.99. Does this set make the overall tower more appealing? Come along as we take an early look!

LEGO Icons 10497 Galaxy Explorer: Classic Space has never looked so good [Review]

LEGO’s first space sets with minifigures were released in 1978, and the following year one of the most iconic LEGO space sets hit the market: 497 Galaxy Explorer (or 928 in the European market). In the decades since, this line has come to be called Classic Space, and the Galaxy Explorer, in particular, has gained mythical status. Now as part of the company’s 90th-anniversary celebrations in 2022, LEGO is releasing an homage to the fan-favorite spaceship with an upscaled and detailed rendition, 10497 Galaxy Explorer. The 1,254-piece set can be pre-ordered now for US $99.99 | CAN $129.99 | UK £89.99 and will be available August 1. Let’s take a closer look and see if this new Galaxy Explorer is worthy of the name.
