We have featured plenty of beautifully built LEGO floral arrangements, but this unique interpretation by Jarekwally may be the most literal interpretation of LEGO flowers so far. Each of the flowers are upscaled versions of the 1×1 modified brick with stud on 1 side. The inclusion of the actual brick as a smaller bud is pure genius.
Did you know that praying mantises are one of the fastest animals on the planet? They creep deceptively slow as they stalk their prey, but these stealthy strikers can snatch a meal twice as fast as the blink of an eye. Now, I don’t think this mantis, built by DanielBrickSon, is going to be making any sudden moves, but it sure looks good! The body-shaping is accurate, and the use of the Ninjago sword for the front legs is a perfect touch. I have to say, though, one of my most favorite parts is the use of the shin guards for the branch bark, a technique first seen on the cherry tree in Ninjago City.
Another fun fact: male mantises can continue to mate, even after the female decapitates them. She will eat him and any other would-be partners in order to give the eggs the best chance of survival. Romantic, huh? If you like LEGO animals, take a peek at some other (non-cannibalistic) creations, like a handsome boar or this colorful Bioni-frog.
There’s little doubt that LEGO building is an art form all of its own. But sometimes it’s nice to see a LEGO builder produce a composition which echoes the subjects and styles of the classic arts. That’s exactly what Birgitte Jonsgard has done with this stunning still life of a vase of flowers — the subject could not be more traditional, and the style and colour scheme evokes a painterly feel. However, those brick-built flowers are beautiful LEGO creations, challenging assumptions around what can be realistically modelled in our favourite bricks. The sheer variety of shapes on display here is impressive, and the fallen pink petal is a final delicious touch of detail on a beautiful creation.
If you are a fan of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, you are probably familiar with Titania, queen of the fairies. Loosely influenced by the bard’s play, Ben Cossy whipped up this lovely LEGO fairy stretching out on the curled leaf of a flowering plant. Ben’s fairy is well-built, with a calm-looking pose and skirt flowing to the side. While the fairy herself is visually stunning, she is made all the more impressive thanks to some detailed landscaping. The sculpting of the flower is breathtaking, including an excellent use of the natural flex of 1×2 plates and 1×1 round plates to form curves in the leaves. It completes the scene in such a way that feels bright and magical.
LEGO, with its cuboid forms, can be a tricky medium in which to attempt organic shapes. Ольга Родионова has done a lovely job with these daisies though — beautiful white petals surrounding a glorious sun-yellow core. Nice work with the green clamshells underneath too. The depth of focus on the photography is excellent, creating a nice sense of scale, and adding immensely to the model’s presentation.
Easter is here! For many of us, that means we are bouncing right into spring; one hop closer to summer! Alongside all the festive bunnies and eggs, we’re beginning to see flowers poke their heads out to say hello to a new world. One of the most beautiful and delicate groups of flowers are those we love to have inside our homes: the Orchids. In addition to bringing life and happiness to a room, they can be a lovely conversation starter! White orchids, for example, are a symbol of innocence, purity, and elegance. And now James zhan has engineered one that isn’t even high-maintanence! He used some incredibly clever building techniques to create this gorgeous plant.

This build of a rose within a ‘glass dome’ is quite the exquisite and elegant idea executed by Chakhei Mok. Some LEGO fans expect lots of fancy techniques and a wide range of parts used in a creation. While this White flower by Jaroslaw Walter has some of that, it focuses on other areas that are just as important, like composition and contrasts.
The shadows give a very mysterious impression, somehow the white flower actually blends with the black background. Different textures are distributed concentrically around the contrasting red gynoecium. The branches reaching out towards the camera emphasize the image’s depth, which could easily be neglected in a build that seems to be very specialized for photography.
A collaboration between LEGO and the fan community in Malaysia has inspired brick-built versions of cultural icons representing everyday things that locals can identify and appreciate as something to remind them of home. The four builds come packaged very much like standard LEGO sets with instructions and a box, and are offered as part of a Gift With Purchase promotion in Malaysia for the month of June.
As part of the community engagement process, candidate fan designs were first shortlisted by LEGO, then the chosen builds received design input from Nicholas Foo, a LEGO Certified Professional based in Singapore, before finally going into production. Continue reading
In a world of spaceships, castles and mecha it can be unclear that LEGO building is a form of art. This is why we have builders like Felix Jaensch, who remind us of the artistic potential of LEGO. The flowers are arranged perfectly with just enough imperfections to look natural. The only part that looks off to me are the leaves, but I do admit it is hard to make them look realistic.
Felix is well known for his simplistic style, mostly using only bricks and plates to accomplish complex shapes, with some of his best work featuring a life sized LEGO mummy, a blue and gold macaw and more recently a very cute red panda. If you like LEGO art, Felix is surely a builder you’ll want to follow.
I’m sure you’ve seen them in stores everywhere, too–the delicate orchids in an array of colors, waiting for you to take them home.
I’ve honestly been tempted, but this one might just fit right in with my decor! Tim Inman has built a lovely purple orchid, which is perfect for anyone. No need for water, and keep it away from the sun!
