Why yes, that is a BrickArms Cricket Bat and M1 Carbine.
Thanks to the generous folks at BrickArms, we’ll be giving away a bunch of these to those of you who contribute to Zombie Apocafest 2009 at BrickCon 2009 later this week. Each Zombie Defense Pack will include a prototype cricket bat and M1 carbine, along with other great stuff that remains Top Secret.
The cricket bats in particular will be in short supply outside these packs, and there will be a limited number of packs, so be sure to build something awesome.
While browsing Bricklink today, I came across a store that specializes in custom chrome LEGO elements. Here, you can get a diverse array of industrially chromed parts from minifig helmets and accessories to car parts for pimping your ride. You can even ask the store to chrome your own LEGO element. Visit ChromeBricks.com and browse their offerings in the chrome gold and chrome silver color categories. You can also find out more by reading their FAQ page.
The following video showcases their products with some rather dramatic and suspenseful background music. After all, chrome is serious business.
If you’re making an order, feel free to drop a mention that you’re a reader of our blog. If many people show interest, we will be featuring a review of these products in the coming weeks.
One of the themes we’ll be incorporating into the final Zombie Apocafest is “Victory!” If last year’s display represented the outbreak and chaos that would follow a zombie pandemic, we’ll arrange this year’s display to include the human counterattack, victory, and even reconstruction.
To that end, we’ve worked with BrickForge on a way to unify the organized human resistance. And what’s more iconic of multi-national military forces than the blue headgear of the United Nations?
BrickForge’s Military Helmet and Beret are now available in Medium Blue. The Brothers Brick will be handing out a bunch to those of you who bring military minifigs, but you can of course order more from BrickForge.com.
Through Tuesday, September 22 at 11 PM Eastern, if your order includes any medium blue headgear, BrickForge will automatically upgrade your shipping to USPS Priority (applies to domestic US orders only). This ensures that you get your helmets and berets in time for BrickCon 2009.
While you’re at it, you might want to include some of the great new colors and items BrickForge has just released. I’m particularly pleased to see that the mushrooms BrickForge teased us with at BrickFair are now available.
Shrooms are available in six colors, and don’t miss all the other items BrickForge has released in new colors.
Yes, yes, yes, we got your messages. For the four readers out there who haven’t sent us this suggestion, here’s the “Brick Construction Shirt” from ThinkGeek:
We’ll be reviewing this unique piece of apparel when it arrives in the mail.
Brian Kescenovitz (mondayn00dle) knows his way around building mechas, so naturally comes this accurate rendition of the mecha suit from District 9. In addition to expertly crafting a detailed frame, Brian uses custom stickers to add a new level of realism to the creation. Lastly, the irregularly shaped baseplate with littered junk completes a scene. Will there be room for a can of cat food? Don’t forget to say hi to Wikus at the controls.
Dan Siskind of BrickMania has just announced that his next custom kit is available for pre-order — the M4A3(76)W VVSS Sherman Tank.
I’d never bought any custom LEGO kits from somebody else, but I bought two of Dan’s kits a few months ago.
I couldn’t have been more pleased. They’re well-designed, interesting to build (well, except maybe the tank treads, heh heh), and a lot of fun to see how another LEGO builder solves interior structure problems you’d never see in a photo.
Though the printed instructions for the two kits I ordered were $10 more expensive, I found them harder to read than the electronic version on a CD.
If you’re reading this, you probably have a computer, so I recommend taking the cheaper, more legible route.
You can pre-order your own Sherman from BrickMania.com.
For years, Andrew humored my Discworld obsession by periodically blogging creations based on Terry Pratchett’s silly fantasy world, but now I get to do it myself. Sylvain (captainsmog) has created a new line of custom minifigures based on members of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch. Makes me want to build a Watch House for them. From left to right: Detritus, Littlebottom, Angua, Carrot, Vimes, Colon, Nobby, Visit-The-Unbeliever-With-Explanatory-Pamphlets, Reg, and Dorfl.
Sylvain also built a great robot based on Hayao Miyazaki’s Laputa (or Castle in the Sky).
I’m generally not impressed with the results of combining clay or Sculpey with LEGO minifigs, but Peter C. (Pete Corp) has achieved amazing results with this custom minifig of Princess Leia as Jabba the Hutt’s slave girl.
Princess Leia’s armband, bikini, and ponytail are all sculpted from clay — amazing detail at this small scale.
Check out Pete’s photostream for lots more photos, including close-ups and fascinating shots of the work-in-progress minifig.
