Some LEGO builders elevate the form to fine art in its own right, while others enjoy reproducing famous works of art with the brick. Find beautiful and thought-provoking LEGO artwork right here.

Black and White Classics, LEGO’d by Mike Stimpson

Mike Stimpson has recreated a pair of classic black and white photographs in LEGO. The one above is based on “Lunch Atop a Skyscraper” (compare with original) by Charles Ebbets (ca. 1932).

This next photo is based on “Behind the Gare Saint-Lazare” (compare with original) by Henri Cartier-Bresson (also from 1932):

Legoland Spacelines 979 by Bram Lambrecht

I saw this at BrickCon and have been itching to blog it ever since — just waiting for creator Bram Lambrecht to “officially” post it:

According to Bram, he used LSculpt to design some of the “studs-out” parts of the nose. And one thing I didn’t learn at BrickCon: The landing gear is retractable. Sweet!

LEGO version of Radiohead’s In Rainbows album art by woordenaar

For those of you disappointed by the fact that the downloadable version of Radiohead’s new album, In Rainbows, didn’t come with any album art, woordenaar has the solution:

Steven Marshall is a guitar god!

Steven Marshall isn’t just a guitar god, he’s also becoming quite the LEGO artist. The only studs visible on this acoustic bass are on the bridge (where the strings meet the body).

Brickfilmers in the Wall Street Journal

Brickfilmers and Brickfilms.com continues to get more exposure. The Wall Street Journal has just published an article about brickfilming and includes interviews from Michael Green, Joshua Leasure, Robinson Wood, David Pagano, Zach Macias, Lewis Chen and myself, Nathan Wells. Purists should be pleased by my single quote. ;)

The article.

In addition to the article, there are two videos. If you’re interested in seeing brickfilms by those interviewed, click their names. Each link leads back to their Brickfilms Directory of films.

Historical Personages by Morgan19

I’ve admired Morgan19‘s minifigs ever since I noticed his great Firefly minifigs. The latest batch is a group of historical minifigs, entries for the Fine Clonier Historical Minifig Contest.

I might quibble with the “historical” nature of some of these, but it’s a great collection of minifigs, presented beautifully.

Two turntables and a microphone

Brothers Brick reader Kevin Guoh sent us a link to his Flickr photostream a few weeks ago, and I promptly lost his message in our mountain of reader submission e-mail. :-( Among his creations is this great DJ console (and don’t miss his floor lamp). Sorry, Kevin! Better late than never?

Van Gogh and Sir Francis Drake by Michael Jasper

Michael Jasper never ceases to amaze in his ability to evoke the spirit of famous historical characters. Oh, and he’s one of the most innovative minifig builders around — check out Van Gogh’s painting and those pantaloons on Sir Francis Drake!

Sandshark by Don Solo

Whether it’s Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro, a little ‘shopping can go a long way toward improving the presentation of a LEGO creation. Don Solo puts his own spin on Adrian Florea’s entry in the “X-wing Evolved” contest, and then kicks things up a notch with a great backdrop.

Micro-suburbia by Steven Marshall

Steven Marshall is fast becoming one of my favorite builders. He’s not prolific, but what he posts is well-built and beautifully photographed.

While we’re at it, don’t miss his double-decker bus:

(Both bookmarked a couple days ago, but I’m forced to concede a “reminder-via” to the inimitable Klocki.)

Indie-rock album art by Christoph

Blogger Christoph has a great photoset of LEGO’d album art inspired by indie artists like Kaiser Chiefs, Morrissey, Belle and Sebastian, and The Strokes:
