What happened when Homer quit the nuclear plant? Dvd reckons he set up his own donut stall. This is a lovely little build, and a refreshing change from people using the Simpsons minifigs just to recreate scenes from the show.
The model has an interior with a cash register and donut display. Sweet. I do wonder if Homer can resist the merchandise though…
Beware! Jeff Cross‘ brick-built Godzilla is coming to stomp all over your hometown. The big beastie himself is well-executed, but it’s the pulse effect created by a simple stack of trans blue 2×2 round pieces which makes this model really stand out. I can hear the sound effects in my head!
Now I want to see the big guy duking it out with Mothra over a microscale Tokyo. Do it Jeff. Do it.

A fresh take on the speederbike with these Arctic-themed creations from Ted Andes. These little guys have a cracking color-scheme and functional-looking greebley bits. I want to scoot these guys around my desk at work and make swooshing noises.

The Millennium Falcon’s dog fight through the bowels of a wrecked Star Destroyer is one of the more memorable action scenes from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Korean builder Taekyu Lee wanted to capture the scene in LEGO but didn’t know where to start – until he saw a small interpretation of the scene built by Simon Pickard for Blocks magazine. That was all the inspiration he needed to construct this mammoth version:
Whilst we all love a spaceship or a castle, sometimes LEGO building is at its very best when it’s used for scale modelling. This fabulous Volkswagen delivery truck in ESSO livery from Andrea Lattanzio is a great example. The shaping on this is excellent and I love the canvas over the truck bed.
The killer detail on this model has to be the stitching around the unrolled canvas. Brilliant stuff.
It’s hard to believe how quickly Star Wars: The Force Awakens has taken the world by storm and become ingrained in the public consciousness. Popsicle speeders, orange and black X-Wings, that one desert beast-thing… All of these new (yet old-looking) vehicles are now instantly recognizable and excitement-inducing. Relatively new to the online LEGO community, builder Robert Lundmark has already made his mark with recreations of classic Star Wars ships — but he has now dived into the new series with multiple Force Awakens builds: Rey’s speeder, Poe Dameron’s X-Wing, and Teedo’s Luggabeast.

Chris Maddison has built a marvellous recreation of one of the greatest/stupidest toy fads of all time — the Pet Rock. The rock and straw are nice, but just take a long hard look at that brick-built cardboard box. Stunning.
The LEGO Ideas Maze continues to inspire builders to construct their very own LEGO mazes. IamKritch steps into the fray with this Aztec-themed beauty. In order to make it out alive, you must delicately and precisely guide a ball from the very top of the pyramid to the lone ship anchored along the shore. Along the way you must avoid pit traps filled with spikes, and cross narrow bridges.
The jungle and temples look great at this tiny scale and I particularly like the decorative skulls and scrolling patterns along the frame of the maze. Be sure to watch Kritch’s video to see all this build has to offer.
As this unfortunate little French chef has discovered, a female behind the wheel can be a scary experience especially when she is after your croissant! Gabriele Zannotti is skilled at bringing virtual LEGO creations to life and this time he has worked his digital rendering magic on a Citroën 2CV Mecabricks project by actioncharles. This Citroën 2CV is a lovely little build, but the rendering really raises it up a level with lights, action, movement and… glass refraction!
Gabriele has been featured here before for his rendering work. We covered his excellent M.C. Escher’s “Hand with Reflecting Sphere” last year. How do you feel about TBB featuring rendered work as well as ‘in the brick’ creations?
It may not cut through much, perhaps not even warm butter, but this gorgeous little LEGO chainsaw by František Hajdekr is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. And it really works! The Technic panels and liftarms fit together as snugly as a jigsaw puzzle. Inside you’ll find a battery box and a Power Functions motor. The safety guard also acts as a safety catch. A simple trigger controls the action. But why take my word for it? See for yourself!
Bonus: the builder has also constructed a power drill and a dune buggy, which also feature Power Functions functionality.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock this week – or just aren’t that interested in the Marvel superhero universe – you’ll no doubt have witnessed all the unnecessary media drama over the shocking plot twist revealed in the latest Captain America comic book series. Even though it’s common knowledge at this point, I won’t even repeat it here, seeing how spoiler sensitive we’ve all become!
But I will report that builder Taylor Walker claims he had absolutely no foreknowledge of this news when he originally built this rather impressive (and strangely modified) life-size version of Captain America’s iconic shield.
