LEGO Icons 10497 Galaxy Explorer: Classic Space has never looked so good [Review]

LEGO’s first space sets with minifigures were released in 1978, and the following year one of the most iconic LEGO space sets hit the market: 497 Galaxy Explorer (or 928 in the European market). In the decades since, this line has come to be called Classic Space, and the Galaxy Explorer, in particular, has gained mythical status. Now as part of the company’s 90th-anniversary celebrations in 2022, LEGO is releasing an homage to the fan-favorite spaceship with an upscaled and detailed rendition, 10497 Galaxy Explorer. The 1,254-piece set can be pre-ordered now for US $99.99 | CAN $129.99 | UK £89.99 and will be available August 1. Let’s take a closer look and see if this new Galaxy Explorer is worthy of the name.

LEGO Icons 10305: Lion Knights’ Castle : Part One – The Castle [Review]

The Castle theme was an early cornerstone of the LEGO line. Starting out in 1978 with the set 375 King’s Castle, we’ve seen dozens of sets over the years. The theme fell mostly dormant in 2014, with only a recent return with 2021’s Creator 3-in-1 31220 Medieval Castle and 910001 Castle in the Forest sets. But just wait until you check out what LEGO has unveiled for their 90 Years of Play celebration. LEGO Icons 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle is a massive, 4514 piece love letter to the theme that will be available to VIPs on August 3rd (and everyone on August 8th) for US $399.99 | CAN $499.99 | UK £344.99. This set is SO massive, in fact, that we had to split our our review of the twenty two included minifigures into “part two”. Today, LEGO Ideas revealed the results of the third review of 2021. Joining this year’s lineup of newly approved LEGO Ideas sets is the Hocus Pocus – Sanderson Sisters’ Cottage.

LEGO reveals 10304 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 as next large-scale Icons vehicle [News]

Today LEGO has taken the wraps off the next large vehicle in the newly rebranded Icons theme (formerly Creator Expert), revealing the 10304 Chevrolet Camaro Z28. Based on the iconic 1969 muscle car, the Camaro Z28 will include 1,458 pieces and comes with the option to build as a hard top or convertible. You can also choose to include dark red, white, or light grey racing stripes, or choose between classic and hideaway headlights. It follows 10295 Porsche 911 Turbo & 911 Targa and 10298 Vespa 125 in the Icons vehicle collection. The Camaro will be available starting Aug. 1 for US $169.99 | CAN $209.99 | UK £149.99.

TBB NEWS AND REVIEWS This week’s news mostly follows Ninjago, one of LEGO’s longest-running original themes — a twist that brings a new twist to the world of ninja, dragons, snakes, and the elements… crystals! This new look reminds me of the stop-motion classic, The Dark Crystal, with a purple hue and lots of jagged edges. We also got a more detailed look at the latest CMF collection, series 23. And if that isn’t thrilling enough, we reviewed the spectacular new theme park set, The loop-dee-loop rollercoaster known as… The Loop.

LEGO Ninjago 71759: Ninja Dragon Temple – This dragon has the blues [Review]

The majority of the 2022 Ninjago summer wave is taken up with the new Crystalized theme, but there’s also another entry to the “core” sets – LEGO Ninjago 71759 Ninja Dragon Temple. This 161 piece set features styling similar to last years EVO theme, and is aimed at younger builders in the 4+ age range. When the first LEGO roller coaster came out in 2018, it felt as though it was long overdue. All the folks playing with K’Nex were chomping at the bit for LEGO to produce something in a way that only LEGO can. Of course, if you give a mouse a cookie, he’ll want some milk. The same people dying for a coaster were soon dying for track made for loops. Four long years later we’ve finally gotten our wish! And not only that, but something with a lot of wow factor. Join us a we take the plunge and loop-dee-loop our way around the LEGO Icons Fairground Collection 10303 Loop Coaster. This epic set contains 3756 pieces, has 11 minifigures, and will retail for US $399.99 | CAN $499.99 | UK £344.99. It will be available beginning July 5th.

LEGO Harry Potter 76401 Hogwarts Courtyard: Sirius’s Rescue [Review]

Continuing our reviews of the summery 2022 Harry Potter sets which are now available, today we take a quick look at the second-smallest set in the wave: 76401 Hogwarts Courtyard: Sirius’s Rescue. This set is in many ways a modern version of 4753 Sirius Black’s Escape, featuring Harry, Sirius, Buckbeak, and more. Is it worth picking up? The set, featuring 3 minifigures and 345 pieces, is available now for US $49.99 | CAN $64.99 | UK £44.99.

This set is based on a license The LEGO Group has with the Warner Brothers films, not J.K. Rowling directly. The transphobic views expressed by Rowling do not reflect the values of The Brothers Brick or, indeed, those of The LEGO Group. The magical world Rowling created, in which many who felt a bit different could see themselves, meant a great deal to so many people, including those that Rowling now demeans. TBB affirms each individual LEGO fan’s choice to claim a piece of the world for themselves, or to reject it entirely.
