BrickCon 2024 tickets on sale today for the public exhibition [News]

Starting today, tickets for the BrickCon 2024 public exhibition are now on sale. With the public days of the convention on September 7th and 8th, nearly 500 LEGO builders (some of them TBB contributors) will convene at Bellevue, Washington’s Meydenbauer Center to show off their creations. This year promises to be a great show featuring the theme of “Foundations,” made to celebrate those sets and themes which have been the bedrock of so many people’s experiences in the hobby. As in past years, the tickets are for a specific entry time on the day of choice to help mitigate crowds, and will retail for $19 (with a $3 discount for the last entry time each day). After selling out last year, be sure to purchase your tickets well in advance! For more information on all the show has to offer, and pictures from past conventions, visit Brickcon.org.

In addition to the amazing LEGO models created by builders all over the world, The Brothers Brick brings you the best LEGO news and reviews. This is our weekly Brick Report for the last week of May, 2024.

TBB NEWS AND REVIEWS With so many sets this week including altnernate models, it feels a bit like the multiverse has taken over. From Creator dinosaurs and modern houses, to iconic Zelda video games. But we also had reviews of two new sets from Disney — a classic from Sleeping Beauty and a magical musical house from Encanto. Last but not least, five new LEGO models designed by builders from around the world join the previous wave of models inspired by Ukrainian landmarks.

New LEGO sets for June 2024 now available for purchase [News]

Summer is upon us, and what better way to spend time cooling off than by building a LEGO set in the comfort of your home? This month, we see a continued resurgence of the much-loved Icons theme with the release of The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr and some highly anticipated new dinosaur molds from the Jurassic World theme like 76966 Dinosaur Missions: Allosaurus Transport Truck. In LEGO’s latest wave of Disney sets, there hasn’t been a ton of wow-power, but there have been a few that struck our eye. One of those sets is LEGO Disney 43252 Moana’s Flowerpot. Our initial impression was that it was a unique marriage with the Botanical line. LEGO Disney 43240 Maleficent’s Dragon Form – Is this Sleeping Beauty set a snooze-fest? [Review]

Whispers about a LEGO version of Maleficent as a dragon have been floating around for several months now. There was a lot of hype about what LEGO Disney 43240 Maleficent’s Dragon Form might look like. But despite The Sleeping Beauty being a Disney Princess film, it was still somewhat surprising to get this model in the form of a minidoll set. Is it a sleeper or is there more to it? Join us as we find out! This kit, which contains 583 pieces, will be available tomorrow, June 1st, and retail for US $69.99 | CAN $89.99 | UK £59.99.

LEGO Creator 3-in-1 31151 T. rex: An apex predator outpaces the rest [Review]

Dinosaurs and LEGO just go together. It could be molded creatures from Dino Hunters, Adventurers, or Jurassic Park. Or detailed brick build sculptures from…Jurassic Park. Or maybe massive creations of stacked 2x4s. Or, indeed, multiple decades of Creator sets! These prehistoric giants are a compelling subject for display and play in the brick. The summer Creator wave returns to the Tyrannosaurus Rex, considered one of the fiercest predators of its time, and perhaps ever (yes, the Allosaurus and Giganotosaurus may want a word, and Jurassic Park invents its own wordless villains, but T. rex still holds up as a top predator). LEGO Disney 43245 The Magical Madrigal House – Family fun [Review]

It’s hard to believe that it’s already been a couple of years since Disney’s Encanto came out. It feels like it was just yesterday, and the soundtrack is a frequent listen in this household. As far its marriage with LEGO, the famous Casita has been a frequent inspiration for talented builders. It only makes sense that LEGO would put out their own rendition. Join us as we take a look at that set, dubbed LEGO Disney 43245 The Magical Madrigal House. This model, which contains 1560 pieces, will be available June 1st, retailing for US $159.99 | CAN $209.99 | UK £139.99.

LEGO unveils 2-in-1 Legend of Zelda set; pre-orders open now [News]

Following in the footsteps of Animal Crossing and Super Mario, LEGO has today announced another tie-in with video game company Nintendo. Much requested and long awaited, the Legend of Zelda series sees its first incarnation in brick form in the shape of 77092 Great Deku Tree 2-in-1 Set. As the name suggests, two versions of this venerable tree can be created using the 2,500 included pieces — one from Ocarina of Time and the other from Breath of the Wild. No fewer than three Link minifigures are included, as well as the titular Princess Zelda. General availability starts from September 1st, or you can pre-order the set now for US $299.99 | CAN $389.99 | UK £259.99.

United24 launches five new custom LEGO models of Ukrainian landmarks to support reconstruction in Ukraine [News]

Last November, the first wave of #LEGOwithUkraine custom sets raised 15,000,000 UAH (nearly USD $375,000) for reconstruction in Ukraine, helping to rebuild a country ravaged for more than two years now by Russia’s brutal and illegal invasion. The official United24 charity recently launched a new wave of five sets designed by LEGO builders from all over the world, titled #UKRAINEinLEGOBricks.

The five models are based on landmarks all over Ukraine, from Lviv in the west, the capital Kyiv in central Ukraine, and Odesa, Mykolaiv, and Crimea in the south on the Black Sea. The first wave of custom kits was designed by LEGO builders exclusivley from Ukraine, while this next group proves how much support the Ukrainian people have from all of us around the world — the builders represent the US, Germany, Poland, and of course Ukraine itself.
