While a great LEGO model always catches my eye, it’s sometimes the presentation that I really fall in love with. Carson Hart proves that the three-quarters “hero shot” isn’t always the best way to showcase a LEGO model with this top-down view of an excellent dragon skeleton, presented on a sand background.
(And thanks to Skyrim, I have to wonder how many bones and scales I’d get if I searched the dragon…)
This chibi F-22 built by Jack Marquez (Ewok in Disguise) is a nice model in its own right, without considering the pilot. It’s well built and adorably proportioned. The icing on the cake? It’s piloted by a raptor from the new Dino sets!
Tia Dalma’s haven of witchcraft was one of the eerier scenes in Dead Man’s Chest, with Jack Sparrow and company slinking through the murky woods to consult a medium. This scene by flickr user Walter Boy captures a bit of that uncanniness, and is a great model besides. The dark tan, dark brown, and dark green merge together well to give this diorama more ominous tones, and the dark background is an excellent choice.
Anika Vuurzoon has combined two very different areas of our LEGO hobby and crafted a very cool, animated version of the Friends robolab. I would love to see the NXT used like this in more themes. Way to step it up, Anika!

Skeletons are notoriously difficult to sculpt with Lego, due to their fragile, spindly nature, but Mike Nieves (aka retinence) has done a superb job with this imagining of a Pokemon Magikarp. His Gyarados is no less excellent, though, translating the serpentine body into Lego fantastically.
Adam Grabrowski (Misterzumbi) once again shows off a fantastic model of a car. This time, it’s themed as though it has been used and repaired in Cuba for decades. The phenomenon of old American cars is an interesting one, and Adam has done a fantastic job of building a car that looks a little worse for the wear, but is also loved.
Jason Corlett combines two shades of gray to bring us a space ship with a lovely shape. I suppose the name eclipse relates to its resemblance to a crescent moon. Name aside, the ship manages to achieve complex curves while also incorporating a surface almost entirely covered in greebling.
Brixe63 built a Lego version of the Terrace optical illusion and is equally baffling as the original. You can see more Lego optical illusions from the builder on Flickr.
Here at Brothers Brick we mostly highlight works made out of Lego pieces. But occasionally, an inspired individual does something unique and passes outside of our usual boundaries. This painting by Mike Yoder, a long-time Lego fan and excellent builder, is inspired by the Brick, Modified 1 x 1 with Studs on 4 Sides, aka, the Travis Brick. It’s amazing to see Lego transcending its plastic nature and informing other media, and I, for one, hope to see a great deal more of this sort of thing.
I wouldn’t be surprised if by some algorithm Luke Watkins (Derfel Cadarn) turned out to be the hottest castle builder at the moment. I’m indeed talking about looks, the looks of his MOCs that is. Always finding new ways to build, Luke in his latest MOC shows that even turquoise can belong to a castle creation. I was initially baffled by this, but the more I look at it the more I’m beginning to fall in love.
My enjoyment of the colors on this build reminded me of the waterfall house by Rocko that I liked for the same reason.
The only thing I can fault Shannon Sproule (Shannon Ocean) for lately is his tardiness. Had he built all his wonderful new toys before Brickvention I could have seen them all in ABS. I guess his amazing photos suffice.
It’s no secret that Iain Heath (Ochre Jelly) and I share a LEGO Ghibli passion, so I was pleased but not surprised that he celebrated the release of The Secret World of Arriety (written by Hayao Miyazaki, based on the classic children’s book The Borrowers) with a lovely Miniland Arriety.
